We have a Mother's Choice Coco. It's not your typical frilly bassinette, and not on cheap plastic castors, which were the 2 main reasons that DH saw it and straight away said "that's the one". We were never intending to move it around the house, so didn't bother with one on wheels, but on the few times we did move it from room to room, it was light and fairly easy to carry. It's got a rectangle mattress and is a bit bigger than some others and our DD stayed in it for a good 5-6 months.
If you don't like the frills etc. maybe a cradle or hammock would be a better option for you? I got ours for $20 on ebay, I repainted it and got a new mattress cut at Clarks. We used it for 8 weeks with DD and then for DS we used an Amby baby hammock for around 6 mths.
I got a basinette attachment from a pram off ebay for $50. It came with a stand and hood and everything, but yeah, did fine for DD2 for a few months till I was ready for her to go into a cot. I'll use it again for the next one too. No frills on it.. haha!
We had the kingparrot bassinet in white and LOVED it! It is very easy to wheel around so bub can sleep in the living room when little, and has mesh sides so I could see him and hear him when lying in bed. Also it's not supposed to rock but does move a little because it's sort of hanging with fabric and I would push it back and forwards when lying in bed and this would settle him. It's very clean and simple with no frills and I would highly recommend them. I don't personally like the wooden ones so go and check out the white one in the shop as I think they look much nicer. Good luck!
The childcare cradle is good ,I had a bassinet for 1st 2 bubs but now prefer the cradle as you can see bubs easier ,I could pull it up close to the bed and hold her hand thru the bars and it rocks evenly like the boori cradles no tipping bubs. I was also able to get it online and delivered to the door thru deals direct cheaper than buying it in the shops.
I TOTALLY agree with lyra stardust. The white kingparrot bassinet looks super! I hate frills, too, and this one really ticks all the boxes. It comes in white (my fave!) dark brown and light wooden colour. Have a google!
