We had the mothers choice coco delux for DD2. It was always commented on as it looks gorgeous. We never had an issue with breathing as it is so roomy which was unlike the moses basket type basinettes I'd used in the past. DD2 was in hers for a good 5 months or so as there really is loads of room.
For the next bub, I want a cradle. We have enough room for one in our room and the one I am eyeing off is just gorgeous.
So, if you're anywhere near Newcastle, I will be happy to let you borrow or buy (very cheap!) our coco delux

I'm not a fan of the frilly ones either.
We were thinking of putting bub straight into her cot but now i'm thinking for breastfeeding etc maybe it will be easier to have her in our room so once again we are considering a bassinet.
I went and visited a friend the other day who has just had a bub and she has a really nice bassinet, it's made by Kingparrot. It's wooden and the bassinet part is a meshy material, was around $180 she said.
It was a fairly simple design but maybe worth a look
    Hope this helps
