We intended DS to go in to his cot in his own room from the start but when we came home from hospital I kind of felt like something was missing. I didn't say anything to DH but when he first woke that night and DH went and got him for me to feed in bed (I had a c/s so I wasn't get out of bed in a hurry in the middle of the night!) he suggested that we just keep him in our bed so we could all get a decent nights sleep, especially as he had to go back to work the next day.

He would sleep really well, and in turn so did we. We got used to all his noises and so learnt to only rouse to the noises requiring attention. And let me tell you, that sleep is just sooooooo invaluable in the early days, I didn't have to wake up fully as I just sat up in bed and he fed while I dozed and then we would both go back to sleep without any of us really fully waking up. It just worked beautifully.

He then stayed in there with us until 15 months, when we moved him in to his toddler bed in our room. He has made the transfer well and we are all still sleeping soundly!! When my next arrives in May we aren't going to bother with cot or bassinet - straight to co-sleeping (we used a bed sleeper for the early days when he was so tiny and will do that again) and will transfer to toddler bed when ready.

But of course our intentions changed last time when we got him home and so they may change again this time to suit us and the baby. Just go with your instincts, mine haven't steered me wrong yet!! You will just know what is right for your family which is why there are so many different experiences here in this thread!
