I hardly ever change my kids on their changetables bug waste of mony. Once mine got a bit older they were just wiggle worms and rollers it was just to dangerous
This time round I wont be bothering, as you suggested a towel on the floor or bed is what i will be doing
I never had one with my 1st DD. We had a change Mat that i just moved around the house and used wherever I wanted. It slid under the couch for daytime storage .
This time round, borrowed one from a friend, but it's one of those fold-up ones, so doesn't take up much room. Only reason was because I had a CS and had residual back/pelvis problems so I literally couldn't get up and down off the floor for a couple of months and found bending over on the bed painful.
But other than a specific reason, I don't think you really need one at all!
I used one with my 1st two babies but DD2 I never used one... I dont think its a must have there are plenty of other things that are must have before a change table...
You could always buy a change matt, one of the ones that make for change tables ( Big W has them ) anyway the have the foam sides as well... I used this for DD2...
I think they are great, and we use ours every single day (a real life saver too now that I'm pregnant). But ours is one that has draws underneath etc so it also has all DD's clothes in it..I love it, but it's just what you get used to isn't it?! You can do without anything really if you want to IMO!
I dont use them cz DS likes to wiggle away and have a little no nappy time. I have a bad back and I change him on my bed id be too worried about him falling off personally cz Aidens pretty quick.
HTH
I loved mine. We actually kept it in the family room with her nappies and spare clothes so we didn't have to traipse upstairs all the time.
This time it will be useful to keep the 'helper' that I have at bay.
It's good for my 6'3" DH as well as stooping to a bed or lounge is sometimes difficult.
BUT in saying that. If you don't have room there are plenty of other options.
I had a thing that went ontop of the chest of drawers with a side to stop him from rolling off, but as soon as he started seriously moving I took it off and have changed him on the floor ever since. When he was newborn & slept in the bassinett in our room I put the change mat on the blanket box at the end of our bed for nighttime nappy changes, cause it'd be silly to have to go into his room to change him when we're all sleeping in the one room.
I had one and I loved it because I could put all the nappy sundries in it and keep it tidy. We stuck castors on the bottom of ours so we could wheel it out of the way.
HollyM.. Totally love ours, use it everyday, every nappy change when we are at home. I have a bad back and its a perfect height. I find DS doesn't roll or move when on change table however on bed or floor he rolls all the time and we have fight with him to change it.. I have little baskets on second and third shelves to keep his nappies, socks, swimmer nappies, blankets stuff. I have wipes, creams etc on his bookshelf near the change table so that he cant reach any of that stuff. he loves pulling out his nappies and putting them back inthe baskets.
Ikea have a great thing where its a changetable but also shelving you can pull it out and put it back up if you dont need it. Might be good for you if you dont have enough space.
