We found out with all 3 of ours. I am a bit of a control freak and love being organised. I also know that once I had a little boy or girl, I wouldn't dress them in any nuetral clothes that I might have bought before they were born so I was better off just finding out and buying gender specific stuff. I also got to be the one to tell everyone in person whether we were having a boy or girl - I feel like I would have missed out a bit if DH had done it over the phone after the baby was born.

I have always wanted surprise, DH wanted to know in then end with DS we had sex written down in sealed envelope which i convinced him not to open.

This time I told him he could know but could not let slip to me or anyone else! he thought that was no fun at all! So neither of us know and not even written down as silly man did ultrasound.

I didn't want to know with DS1 wanted the surprise (although I had a strong feeling he was a boy and I was right)
I wanted to find out with DS2 so I could be organised with some stuff if he was a girl, but he kept closing his legs and rolling over every time they tried to look during the scan so had to wait for the surprise in the end

Not finding out with this one much to DS2's horror! we want the surprise...and it's fun watching DS2 squirm with anticipation

Nope, no finding out here. We love a surprise!!! And it was good motivation for me to keep pushing, the only thing actually......when I'd been pushing for over three hours and wanted to give up I suddenly thought "but soon I'll know if my baby is a boy or girl!" and that kept me going

Also, I don't trust ultrasound technology enough . I know way too many people who have been told the wrong sex, only to find out at the birth (and have a midwife friend who sees it happen all the time). It's probably no biggie to most, but why bother finding out if it's wrong anyway? So yeah, even if I did find out, I wouldn't really prepare because I'd be wondering all the time if they had been right or not.

Each to their own, obviously, but it really gets up my nose when people say "oh, but you HAVE to find out!!!" or "you know already, you just don't want to say", like people don't believe it's possible to go through your whole pg without knowing the sex. Um, hello, you will find out eventually!!! One day the baby will be born and then you'll know for sure! Like I said, I don't give two hoots what someone else does, I can definitely see why you would want to find out, but it bugs me when people really push you to do it.

We found out with both our bubbas. I just loved/love rubbing my belly knowing its a girl!
I think of what she might be like as she grows etc. Plus with a second its prob smart to get organised just incase you have an opposite sex to your 1st

Janie - It's funny that you get comments for not finding out, we get people who comment because we did find out. My favourite is 'It's like opening your Christmas presents before Christmas day.' I think it just goes to show that somebody will be unhappy with your choice, no matter what you do. I don't let it get to me either.

I think people who find out and keep it a secret are amazing ... I would let it slip sometime. We start calling our babies 'he' or 'she' as soon as we find out and I would say something without meaning to. I'm hopeless with stuff like that though.

    Pg#1 - didnt find out
    pg#2 - found out
    pg#3 - found out
    pg#4 - didnt find out.

Being thru both options, i must say whilst its nice to be organised, and get that little bit of bonding in during the pregnancy...there is nothing, nothing like the surprise and squeals of excitement you hear from people when you announce "ITS A GIRL" or "ITS A BOY". HAving had our first boy recently, we didnt find out, and i was soooo sure i was haivng my 4th girl....i tell you, there will and never has been a more shocked, excited, astounded, bewildered, absolute delighted feeling than finding out the sex, the day they are born....NOTHING beats it if you ask me....

Mbear, obviously I've only done it one way, but we loved it . DH was the one to announce the sex (my eyes were closed, with relief he was out LOL) and it was so wonderful, he said "Sez, we've got a beautiful little boy!!!" and then he cried on my shoulder, and me on his while we looked at our tiny baby on my tummy. Makes me very nostalgic thinking about it.

I definitely want to know! I just cant bring myself to by neutral baby clothes, I'd much rather find out and buy gender specific stuff! And I can't wait too see if my 'boy vibes' are right, too. And name picking will be easier when I know what names to focus on as well! I'm counting down, less than 6 weeks till we know!
(how often do they get it wrong anyways? now i'm a bit scared...)

To be completely honest, i was worried about feeling dissapointed after the birth if i didn't get what I wanted
That was my initial opinion whenever someone would ask me if i would find out the sex of my baby when i become pregnant. I just believe that you will always have in the back of your head what you want and if you want a surprise and the baby turns out to be the opposite you have the potential to be disappointed and that would be awful! atleast then you have a few months to get used to the idea

But my opinion now is i would love a surprise for my first baby, i would like a boy first but if its a girl i would be over the moon!! i cant wait to have my little girl

That's the main reason I found out both times . With DS I really wanted a boy, with DD I really wanted a girl, but I thought if they weren't the gender I wanted I would have a few months to get used to the idea. The other reason was to get organized. If we decide to have another one I won't be finding out because I would love to experience the surprise at the end, we have names picked out for either, we have everything we need for either gender.

I found out because I couldn't see the point of not finding out. This being an IVF pregnancy I have seen this baby as an 8 cell embryo, a tiny prawn with a yolk sac, I have seen his face, his spine, his heart etc etc. Why not know an integral part of his personality or the person he will become? I have waited for over 6 years to conceive him through all sorts of disappointments and heartache. Waiting is not something I want to do anymore. It is difficult enough waiting for him to be born, let alone holding out on the sex! I am not sure if this is typical of LTTCers but it has been my experience.
