Fish oil in Pregnancy- how much????

    Hello!
I need some advice. Just went to my acupuncturist yesterday and he gave me some fish oil supplements. But I'm on the Blackmores Pregnancy and breastfeeding gold too so I don't know if it's ok to take both?? I haven't taken them yet.

The blackmores says it has this much per capsule (and you take 2 capsules a day, so double):
Fish oil - natural (tuna oil) 500mg
    containing omega-3 marine
    triglycerides 160mg as:
    DHA 125mg
    EPA 25mg

And the other fish oil supplement has (per capsule, and the AP said to take 2 a day):
    Concentrated omega-3 tryglicerides - fish 994.6mg
    equiv. EPA 300 mg
    equiv. DHA 200mg
    d-alpha-Tocopherol 16.8mg
    (equiv. Natural vitamin E 25IU)

Any ideas what I should do??

SaraJane is the accupuncturist's supplment formulated for pregnant women?
There are two types of fish oil, one made from the body of the fish and one made from the fish's liver. The one made from the liver also usually has retinol-A - which is a no no in preg.

There is no recommended daily intake for DHAs atm. Do you eat fish as well?

oops, I 4got abou this thread.
No, I don't think it's especially for pregnant women. Although on the back it does say ' pregnant women have an increased need for DHA and EPA ' hmm.....
I sometimes eat fish, not much tho.

Is it the fish that is the concern or the Omega that you are getting from it? I take (and took through pregnancy) Flaxseed oil as I don't eat fish. It has Omega 3, 6 & 9 and is totally vegetable based so you might want to look into that as well.

I always thought that pregnant women should not be taking flax seed oil as it messes with the hormones and can increase the risk of miscarriage ? Anyone know about this ?

I hadn't heard that but I will definitely look into it - I took it through my pregnancy and breastfeeding with no adverse effects but will ivestigate further just in case there is a next time

I was told the same thing about flaxseed oil. Shame too because it does wonders for my psoraisis and bm production too.
