How did you tell your partner?

    Hi everyone,

We've started TTC this month & it got me thinking about various ways to tell him when it happens.

Just wondering what everyone did when you told your partners?
My cousin got a father-to-be card for her DH.

The first time, I can't even really remember... cause it wasn't planned.
This time around, we planned it, and we took to the HPT together.

Congrats on the TTC. Good luck & I hope it all goes great!

    xx

The first time I was pregnant I told DH in very loving, excited way and there were tears and laughing etc. et.c Then we m/c so that was awful. The next time I told DH we were very tentative so is wasn't as exciting which is a shame but it all worked out beautifully.

I've heard some good stories though and I like it in "Up the Duff" where she says about a girl who made meal for her Dh with veal, baby peas etc. to indicate a baby!!! LOL If I had my time over or for the next one I would def keep secret until confirmed by doc rather than telling DH I thought I was cause that way you can do the big surprise thing. Best wishes!

I wasn't very imaginative. I took a HPT after work one day for my OB appt the next day to induce my AF to start my next cycle and got a HUGE surprise. DH was out so I sat up and waited for him, he got home at 11.30pm and I had to be a work at 6am and when he walked in the door I just stood up walked over to him and said we're having a baby and showed him the HPT. He grabbed me, hugged me and kissed in a way that he never had before and I'll never forget that kiss. He was so happy.

I shoved that stick of wee under DH's nose 5:15am on a friday moring crying and laughing and shouting to him: YOU ARE GOING TO BE A DADDY!!
I was about three days late and DH was up in my face about taking a HPT for the whole three of those days. I just told him to wait till Friday. Well Friday got around and I got up and was soooo excited and just took the test without waking him. BTW he is NOT the morning type person. It took him about 10 seconds to process what I said, but then it was kisses and hugs and we told the whole family before 8am and the town knew before noon. go figure
My original plan was to buy him a "best dad in the world" mug and give that to him with the HPT inside. Needless to say - I was to excited to keep that a secret for a second. Maybe next time??

    I had plans.

I was going to do a card, a present, something with Daddy on, it would be so exciting...

Instead, I was 8w gone, did a blood test, called DH at work and it went along the lines of:

    "Guess what."
    "Go on."
    "I'm pregnant."
"Thought so, your boobs had grown a bit."
    "Really? Why didn't you say?"
"Dunno, didn't want to in case I was wrong."

    Slightly anti-climactic.

LOL Ryn, typical bloke noticed your boobs!

Our First DH new I was testing & we debated if it was in fact a line as it was faint & he didn't think it counted.

2nd time I kept it a secret till christmas & gave him the HPT as a present. Poor guy says he almost died! He was very happy.

3rd time he was sleeping on Evan bed (well he was awake but not up yet) and I snuck in said there are 2 lines, He said I thought so. He now tells me he figured I was because I went of Sex LOL.

Next time I plan on putting a Bun in the oven LOL.

With Zander, Aaron convinced me to test at 7am on a Saturday morning, so he knew.

With our princess, I was due to have my BT on the Friday (IVF bub) but I was too anxious so I tested on the Tuesday afternoon. I took a photo on my phone & MMSed it to him with the message "I couldn't resisit any longer!" To no answer... SMSed saying check your phone... No answer... Called... No answer... So he finally called back after 2 hours & still hadn't looked at the message!! So he looked while I was on the hone & he cracked up laughing!!

1st time I SMSed DH because he wouldn't answer his phone (coz I had chucked a hissy fit in the morning)

2nd time I walked out of the bathroom after doing a POAS and DH took one look at my smug grin and knew.

we were actively TTC, I had tried at 1 day past my missed period, negative. I made brekky and threw it up, did a HPT while in there and it was +ve. That was 3 days past the start of the missed period ... DF didn't want to believe it, so I did another a week later, still +ve ... he started to believe then. Meanwhile I was not drinking etc and he was offering me wine!

Next time, I'll just tell him I am preggers, not necc where in my cycle we're up to ...

    Mine was terrible....

We had spent the night arguing and out of nowhere I just said I was pregnant, to be totally honest though I wasn;t actually 100% sure I was pregnant. The fighting stopped but I took him to his Aunts place to stay the night and we didn't talk the whole day. That night after work I went home and did I test, then to the doctors for another test because the tests were coming up so faint. It was after the doctors that I went to see him and told him I couldn't do this ( meaning all the tests, waiting for the blood test and even worse I wasn't sure I could have the baby - I was at the end of a year long application for entry into the police force - this meant throwing away all the hard work and putting it off for another few years).

He came home and we went to the blood test together. I called the pathology place 3 times before the results were finally in and they were faxed across to my work..... I was so nervous I was sick. I was 4 weeks pregnant. We decided to talk about it when he got home but I left work staright away and called a close friend. Although I don't think there was ever a real doubt that I would keep the baby my friends words just reiterated that - after all I knew I wanted kids since I was 15. I called DP back and told him we would figure things out and we would be ok and that I thought we could do it. Apparently it was the best news of his life and when he got home he had already been out and bought something for the baby.

We are so much closer now and I couldn't imagine things being any other way!!!

We weren't really trying but we weren't being careful either. I started to suspect something was up so i stopped changing the cat tray.

I took a test during the day when DH was sleeping after a night shift. It came up positive,,,,i wasn't surprised but thought DH may be a bit shocked..even thoght i told him that my period hadn't come yet. It felt like the longest few hours of my life while i waited for him to wake up.
He sat down on the couch and i sat on the floor, I told him that I had taken a pregnancy test that morning..then i started to cry as I was happy but worried about what he would thing. He smiled and said you're pregnant aren't you? I said yes and cried harder, he laughed, gave me a big hug and said why are you crying, it's good!

So definitely not the crazy happy moment that i thought it would be but it was still really nice!

With Kat, we'd been trying for 5 months and nothing. Then during the 6th month, we got married and on the drive over to perth for our honeymoon, I was having bad cramps and needing to pee CONSTANTLY. I told DH AF was going to be a BAAAAD one and I thought I was developing a UTI. I had NFI I was UTD! We got to Perth and AF was still not there (3 or 4 days late and no real sign of her, besides cramping) so the next day, we bought a HPT. I did it sitting in the loo and when I saw the wet patch reach the other side and there was only one line, I threw it out. There was no hint of a second line. I went out and told DH it was -ve and he was a little upset. So two days later, still no AF and a dh's best man said he thought I was pg, so I use the second test. I went outside and had a smoke while we waited. Thinking it would be my last if I was. Came back in and DH and I waited together for the 8 min mark, and I checked. Two lines. I ran straight out to DH and said "Ur going to be a daddy!!!!" He started crying too.
With Jess, I was only 10wks pp and I felt sick 4 afternoons running so I guessed I was. DH kept saying it was hormones re-settling. I went to Dr for BT and we went back the next day for results. The whole night while we waited, I kept asking DH if he'd be angry if I was. He assured me he was fine with it. After all it was his fault too. Well Dr said "Yep, ur pregnant" and Dh litterally had to pick his jaw up off the floor. He was happy, but it was a huge shock. HPT's were -ve till 10wks pg.
With this one, I suspected, went for BT and the result was -ve. Then next day, was still feeling dodgy and horrid so got a HPT while buying lunch for my sis's kids and my kids. I did the test and it came up +ve. I msg'd DH and said "Hello daddy of 3". He msg'd back and said "I thought u said it was -ve" I msg'd back "It was, two days ago. Today it's +ve. Twice." (I'd used both tests). Dr confirmed with BT a week later. He wasn't too happy as he'd changed his mind and decided we should wait another few months. Too late!! We worked it out tho and he's looking forward to meet our little man!

With all of mine I've just shown him the positive test. With this one I had to sneak in the bathroom use the test as quietly as I could so as not to wake him (he didn't like me testing early, thought I was getting obsessed) and then when it came up positive I went back to bed and waited for him to wake & just showed him. He was of course delighted.
