Will you be going away before bubs arrives?

Just interested in whether you will be going away before the arrival of your bundle of joy. We are seriously contemplating this at the moment, but financially - the money could also go towards baby related products!!

Any recommendations on where to get away to, would be greatly appreciated!

We were hoping to get away but I have a low lying placenta and my OB has told me I'm not allowed to travel any further than 2 hours from the metro area and that includes no flying either! We were hoping to go to Broome before Tarko arrives but as we can't, we're looking at going to a nice B&B closer to home now.

You are right though, the money can be spent on baby things so if you think that's a better option for you but would like some special 'baby-free' time with your partner, why don't you just consider a night at a nice hotel. Get a cheap deal on Wotif or Last Minute and enjoy a romantic meal, a stay in a hotel and breaky in bed.

We went on a week-long trip to Cairns last month. I was 35 weeks. It was nice, but I was pretty uncomfy.
We just stayed with my sister, so no accommodation costs (except for a couple of nights up at the Tablelands where we stayed in pretty cheap accommodation). It was a nice break for us as a family, and DH got to spend some good quality time with DD which was important to me because they are going to be spending lots of time together when the little one comes and is permanently attached to my boobs
Anyway, I'd recommend it - even just what Taurean suggested: go on some dates

I wouldnt go away in first tri (which i see your just past) or third tri.....which means if i were you, i would go somewhere now - its called the honeymoon stage after all..... I just find 3rd tri very uncomfy...and its always at the back of my mind that i could go anytime....a night here or there wouldnt break the budget would it ? then you could still get your much desired baby things....

    Good luck !

We splashed out on a weekend in a really nice B&B in the southern highlands (less than 2 hours drive). I was pretty debilitated with SPD by that stage so I had to ring beforehand to check there wasn't any stairs or hills to climb to get there...it was just really nice spending a couple of days in luxury, doing nothing except paying attention to each other. Highly recommend it!

I've got a few somethings booked.
Melbourne at 10wks, for a wedding. That's our announcement to family and friends date.
Hunter Valley at 23 wks for a wedding.
Melbourne at 31 wks for a visit, maybe a baby shower
Sydney at 33 weeks for family pre-Christmas get-together, maybe a baby shower, and to just hang out with mum.

And in between, maybe a weekend up or down the coast, and might go visit my sister in Byron. We'll see how it plays out.

I have done.. Went on a Christmas Holiday to QLD while PG with Sam and Harry. Sam was born 31/01, and Haz 20/04. No fears though because my kids have always been over... Kinda makes me worry how they are going to get a job when they were even late to their own birth, lol.

DH and I have recently been discussing the same idea. We have just bought our first home, and will settle at about 23 weeks. We have two weeks vacation over this same period, and I also turn 30 that week. We are hoping to go away for about 3-4 days, but are also conscious of money (having just bought a house and preparing for bubs). Will probably spend a few days close to home - in the hinterland or on the coast, only a few hours from home. Not sure yet. Am very conscious this will be our last vacation by ourselves for a while, and we're usually big travellers.

We went away before our first was born. and 2nd , 3rd and 4th lol.. We took that one last holiday.

We just went to Brisbane for a few days and wandered around the museums ect..

I think its a good idea to do it. You don't have to spend lots to have a small getaway. We went camping before our 2nd was born for 3 days. Was just so relaxing

DH and I were meant to have gone away for a weekend in March but didn't due to threatened MC. Due to his now study commitments and my fears of being 2 hours from my hosptial (jic something goes wrogn) we have postponed the trip until after bubbie is born assuming all goes well.

It would be nice to get away so I think providing all goes well maybe go somewhere reasonably local therefore not too exxy for a weekend or longer and have some time relaxing would be a great thing to do. It doesn't have to be an exxy holiday that way you will still have some money left over to spend on bubbie.

Just remember if you have a baby shower then you can get a gift registery set up so people don't double up on things and generally people want to get you stuff that you can use when buying gifts.

    Babymoon

DS1 was a surprise pregnancy, and we had already planned a 3 month tour of Europe - which we carefully crafted into the second trimester, when my nausea & extreme tiredness was gone, and I was far off feeling like a beached whale!!
It was a once in a lifetime oppurtunity so we just went for it and had an unregretable experience. DS1 loves such a broad range of food that we always joke that it is due to the wide range of cuisine he was experiencing in the womb throughout our travels.
I would highly recommend all women engage in at least a mini-adventure during the 2nd trimester of their 1st pregnancy. You wont have the same freedom until your kids are grown!!

If it can't be done in the second trimester - keep it close to home and avoid flying if possible.

I am contemplating this very issue at the moment. I'm 11 weeks and DH is on holls in a few weeks. We have been talking of going to Gold Coast for a week but I'm so scared to book it (which I need to do now to get reasonable rate). I have my first u/s scheduled for about 4 days before we would leave. I am hanging everything on that. With swine in planes/airports and the uncertaintity of being pregnant (I'll be about 13 weeks when we leave) I'm so unsure about whether to book or forego the holiday. Am I just being a worry wart ?? I haven't had any bleeding with this p/g but with my 1st I m/c at 8weeks (missed so found out by u/s which I think is why I'm hanging everything on my u/s) and #2 lots and lots of bleeding (which increased significantly after the u/s) but went on to have healthy baby no dramas after bleeding stopped. I guess with my history it's probably natural I would feel so uncertain but this pregnancy is the furthest I have ever got without bleeding or problems. I'm really not sure what to do. I feel like I'm spending my life around 'just in case' I miscarry or need a hospital !! Maybe I just need to relax.

DF & I are going on a honeymoon in August. We were going to go overseas but decided not to deal with flying with a 1 year old and me being pregnant. So instead we are going to spend a few days down south WA, relaxing amongst the forrest of Karri trees

I think it can be a really great idea to getaway together before having a baby! DD was a surprise but just before she was conceived we did a 2month driving holiday from Perth to Brisbane. It was fantastic and I am so happy we had that oppurtunity as it would be a bit difficult to do something so spontaneous for a few years now!

    do it!! do it!!!

You won't regret going on a special babymoon - 3 years after the birth of our first baby, we haven't had more than single date together without the kids - a weekend away is still out of the question. So I think if you can swing it, definitely do it. Spend the money on a weekend away - in my experience, you'll manage to find bits and pieces of spare cash to get the baby things you need - but having a couple of days together before your baby comes along is really precious and you'll be so glad you did it.

We went away over Christmas, so I would have just started my second tri I think. It was nice...when I wasn't overcome by morning sickness...had to make a few stops on roadsides! Lol

Next weekend i may be going to Melbourne with DF, he has a job to do down there and doesn't want to leave me at home alone when I'm this close to popping...I don't want to be left home alone either! Just have to see if I can change my next antenatal appointment so I am able to go with him..I don't know what would be worse, being home alone and having something happen, or being in Melbourne and something happening...yikes!
