Congratulations on having a boy WW. Is your DD excited about having a baby in the house. I think my youngest is around the same age (3.5). She is incredibly excited. Much more then the older girls
I can also relate to the pet situation. We are in a similar position with our 2 old dogs. Our girls were (dogs) wonderful in their younger years but not anymore. They are not tolerant at all so are not suitable as kids pets. Sad really as they need to enjoy a peaceful retirement which isn't what we can provide them.
Hope your feeling better WW and the spews have left you.
Hey Guys,
Well I had my scan today and all was well with the baby except my cervix was short, and dynamic, varied from 1.5 to 1.1cm I went straight up to see our OB and have progesterone pessaries and may get a stitch on Monday. It is just sinking in. My last pregnancy went to 42 weeks and I was slow to dilate. Very slow. I have adenomyosis though now (from having endo getting into the womb muscle itself during pregnancy) which I am told can cause contractions which cause the short cervix. I feel stressed and sad and exhausted. At first, I was so calm, and confident and now - and I suppose it is my fault for looking online and seeing people's stories - I feel really bad. I am on "take it easy" mode over the weekend, rather than bedrest. I have felt so confident in this pregnancy and now I feel like it's just a repeat of the past. Something on a scan, followed by disaster. I am a very sensitive person who feels things very deeply and I do have a worrying mode which is my default, though I am working on it. Now my DH is home from his work "helping" with my DD which for them is fighting and breaking down in tears every 10 minutes.
I haven't told anyone, but I need to cancel a few things now at the start of the week and quite possibly my trip to Brisbane which I had booked in for myself as a "last" treat for next weekend.
I had imagined this healthy big baby and this long pregnancy with all the time in the world. I want to be up to this challenge and take it as gently and peacefully as I can. But I am feeling so overwhelmed right now.
All the best to everyone in here,
WW

I am so sorry to hear your going through this WW. Must be such a worry. In another few weeks I am sure you will breath a sigh of relief and things will get less worrying. I have a friend who's membranes ruptured at 23weeks and she is now 26weeks along (in hospital obviously). I will be praying for you that the next few weeks fly by and your cervix doesn't get any shorter.
All is going well for me. I see the Ob again this week. We will see what he says. Still exhausted. I just hope things improve in that department once bub is born. One of the biggest contributing factors is my constant need to pee. Its not unusual for me to get up 6-8times of a night.
When do you have follow up WW? Do you need to have another scan soon to see if the progesterone is helping? Have you had any noticeable braxtin hicks etc? Are you able to get help at home so you can take it easy?
Hi Mildez, glad all is going well though exhaustion must be hard.
AFM I had my follow up scan yesterday and the cervix was 1.9cm. So a bit better but not significantly. Our OB will see us again on Thursday to check it all again and then decide about the cerclage, which is borderline. I feel pretty alone with it. There is nothing I can find on this site that relates to this situation. I can't even find a forum on prem babies. Am I missing something? I am probably getting ahead of myself to be looking into that. I had to cancel my holiday and I lost over $500 in accommodation. Probably the least of my worries but a kick in the guts too. I am having thoughts like I wish I hadn't wanted to have children. I wish I was like my friends in Holland, a really lovely nerdy couple who just don't want kids. Then I wouldn't have had to go through all this. These are really upsetting thoughts and I think it's about a really strong resistance to all the pain that I've been going through these last ... 7 years or so. I suppose I am still attached to an idea of pregnancy/birth/motherhood from my mum's experience which seems to me to have been a lot easier. Pregnant at the drop of a hat. Breastfed no problems (never even gave up drinking (it was the 80s) whereas I have thrush so if I have a slice of toast I am in trouble). And easy babies who slept through from 6 weeks. 4 of them. My mum spend a lot of time bragging about her natural labours too. These messages have really screwed me up.
Anyway, I am going to spend some time with Byron Katie today (she is a self help guru from the US who has written a book called Loving What Is). It's all about recognizing unhelpful stressful thoughts and releasing their power over you. I have full day and half off from my lovely DD which is necessary though I miss her. My main themes are comparing myself to others and believing that life should be fair or just. Whilst that would be nice, it causes a world of suffering if you believe that, I think.
WW again I am so sorry about the crappy jouney you have had ttc, giving birth, feeding and now the stress of this.
Are you on essential baby? If so I know they have pregnant forum's for specific high risk groups. Perhaps prem birth or high risk of prem birth is one of them. As a midwife I do know of several women who have measured to have a short cervix and have gone on to need inducing over due and that was without the cerclage although its obviously something you can't ignore and need very close monitoring. It sounds like the progesterone is helping and Thursday is only tomorrow for more answers as to what is happening inside. 1.9 isn't ideal but on the bright side its an improvement on the first measurements. Did they say the membranes were funneling too? I have everything crossed for you this is just another hiccup and you will go on to have a fullterm pregnancy.
Yes that is a kick in the guts the accomodation. Will they not let you go another time instead of taking your money? Sounds ridiculous to me given the circumstances.
I saw the Ob yesterday. Said all was going well. I see him again in 3weeks time.
Hope you got good news today WW and your cervix isn't doing anything worrying. Almost 22weeks. I guess everyday is dragging at the moment. I'd give you a few of my weeks if I could. I looked on the essential baby site and there was not really anything specific to shorten cervix's or cerclage. I know a few members on here have had them including Dory not that I have seen her around recently.
My next big Milestone is in 2days time. 34weeks. Thats when you can deliver at my hospital and not be transferred 500kms away. I was unwell last night with the runs. I was worried it would send me into labour as I am sensitive in the uterus. I don't have to do much to start braxtin hicks. Today bub is super quiet. Hardly a movement all morning (I am at work). Hopefully its just exhausted from last night's sickness and resting. The lack of movements freak me out. Its always been a quiet baby. I mentioned it at my Ob appointment but it was moving when he was palpating my abdomen so he said it was fine. This time next week I get a weeks annual leave. I need it. 3.5 shifts to go. And I am counting.
Hi Mildez,
Great news that you are nearly at 34 weeks. Hope baby starts wriggling soon, even just to calm your nerves.
My cervix is shorter again at 1.5cm, so going in for the stitch on Saturday. Thanks so much for looking into EB for me. There is funneling too. I feel pretty down today. The doctor's tone was very serious and I had hoped obviously for a slight increase. The doctor doesn't seem to think bed rest is that important but so many people seem to do it. So my DH and I decided I would really increase the lying down and he would stay home today, and tomorrow. Every time the baby moves, I feel this connection and fear that he will be lost. I have already started to think of him as a little person and want him to have a life. I don't blame my body or myself, but I do feel like the body that I have including this cervix is failing him. He is doing so well otherwise.
Good luck to everyone in here.

I am really sorry to hear the scan didn't show your cervix was longer again yesterday. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and praying it all goes without a hitch. I have been in theatre a number of times when they have done the procedure. Although usually earlier then you they have gone without a hitch. I think I mentioned my friend had hers placed at 23weeks when her cervix was measuring 0.8cm. She is now almost 28weeks and bub and her are doing well. The fear you have hopefully will start to resolve in a few weeks when this vulnerable stage is over and you know with each week bub is getting so much bigger and strong. Are you still on the progesterone?
Thanks Mildez, How are you going?
AFM I went in on Saturday to have the stitch, stayed overnight. I think it all went well. I have a follow up early next week. I have been told I can be up and about but not sure to what extent I should be doing long walks (which I normally do a lot of) etc. So I am still getting lots of time lying down and taking things easy. The experience was very full on mentally, being awake in theatre, but not at all bad physically so if anyone is worried about how it feels, that might be reassuring. I had already experienced an epidural with the birth of DD so there were no surprises. I did feel fairly exposed and occasionally I overheard what the doctor was saying to his medical student and this was not the best thing for me. I just did some breathing and it was over. I feel pretty emotional day by day. I am just putting one foot in front of the other.
Hope all is well with you Mildez and others too.

I am really pleased to hear the surgery went well. Rightfully so to feel how you did. I’d be very nervous too. Have you managed to rest up over the last few days? I can’t see how it would hurt taking it easy. I hope your DH is dotting on you and your DD is behaving herself so you can rest. I hope you can start enjoying your pregnancy more as the next few weeks go by.
I am plodding along. Still extremely tired. Looking forward to Maternity leave. Bring on the 19th December.
WW - I've been reading your updates and sending positive energy your way... I am so sorry the road has not been completely smooth sailing so far, but hope that things will get better now that this surgery is done. I was in the hospital recently and sharing a room with a woman who had the same thing happen, and I thought of you. I would think this is actually common? And the doctors know how best to manage it for you and your baby. Big hugs.
Mildez - thrilled to see things are progressing well.
AFM - I've been okay. Had a scare last week with some chest pain that required me to go to emergency for investigation. 24 hours in the hospital and a VQ scan later I was cleared of any pulmonary embolism, but it was scary and realising I had to do that scan was so emotionally difficult. Any risk to this baby just terrifies me. I'm not even consuming caffeine and I have to take this test?! The stress relief of knowing the pain is likely ligament sprain is, of course, a weight off my mind and good for bub. But yeh... it wasn't nice. Also my diabetes numbers are slightly elevated according to my hospital's standards and the doctor is talking about Metformin. My problem is my numbers are actually acceptable according to the limits for a variety of other hospitals and I'm so uncomfortable with medicating when I'm in a gray area. Not sure how to go about this, how to talk to the doctor and maintain my low-risk model of care. So yeh... feeling stressed, unfortunately. But baby is moving and wriggling, which is lovely. Like you, WW, I feel more connected to her everytime I feel her.
Lee, sorry to hear about your stresses with the chest pain and possible diabetes. It ain't fun, is it?
AFM, my scan yesterday showed funnelling down to the stitch. I am on bed rest (but sort of self imposed as our doctor is quite unclear about it, though he did say "rest more"). Yesterday was a hard day. I feel fairly upset and anxious a lot of the time. I just sent my DD away - again. I am not a naturally optimistic person so I have to work SO hard to allow the possibility that things won't turn out really badly.
I can't even face this site right now plus I cannot type lying down, too uncomfortable.
I am really sorry to hear WW. I have seen this happen before and the lady carried her pregnancy for another 8weeks (she was 26weeks then). And my facebook friend who had the stitch in at 23weeks who ruptured her membranes the next day is now about 29weeks. I know it doesn't really help now but there is a good chance you will carry this bub much longer. Are they keeping you on progesterone? I think bed rest will help. Gravity wont be your friend. I cant imagine the stress you must feel with your normal lifestyle and that of your DH and DD being interrupted and the stress of what could happen. I wish I could give you some of my weeks if that makes sense. I will be thinking of you and praying the weeks keep ticking away xxx.
