dampyre - yeah all is well! baby measuring spot on and heard the heartbeat for the first time, its pretty cute. she hurt me measuring though, i am seriously all baby, my stomach is that tight its not funny, even she commented, i guess thats cuz im so short?? i dunno!! the head isnt engaged thank goodness.. but its head down for me!
can they stop you from losing your plug? im glad you see ur doc tomorrow if this has started again.. id be freakin out
hello to everyone its nice to see everyones tickers progressing & hearing everyones stories.
whats everyones opinions on evening primrose oil, raspberry leaf tea & labour tens machine? my ob dosent believe in the first two
because nothing has been proved scientifically (sp?) but my midwife said she took rasberry leaf tea.. i dunno.. i dont really want to spend money on sh*t that dosent do anything.
the tens machine i will find out more in my birthing class.. but same thing again, the money!!
Alish - There's plenty of nursing evidence about raspberry leaf tea - I'm a scientist and a nurse by training and it was enough to convince me! But then, I never did get to the pushing bit, so I have no idea if it would have helped. I did recover very quickly from the c/s and my uterus contracted very nicely. I reckon go for it - I only bought one packet from a health food shop (you can get little tea strainers about the size of a teaspoon from T2 that make brewing it heaps easier), and I'll be doing the same this time too. TENS - I was the same, didn't know if it would work for me and I am a tightwad and didn't want to hire it! I'm glad bubs is head down, that's a good thing - I was tight and full of baby too with DS, and I'm 5'7", so not too short, think it has a lot to do with how you carry too.
damprye - let us know how you go at the Dr! Hope all is well and it's just a bit of mucous rather than your whole plug!
pash - it took ages for this to feel real to me too, and even sometimes I forget. I feel like getting ready for this baby is tempting fate. But you ARE pregnant and you have a little person growing inside you - how awesome is that!
I'm like damprye - loving the movement - in the phase where I feel it all the time and love every second of it (not looking forward to those little feet under my ribs). I do love this baby
Alish: I don't know about the first two but I hired a TENS machine for my labour with DD and it was really really helpful for me. I had a very long early stage labour: laboured at home for 24hours with contractions every 5minutes for a lot of it and only dilated about 2cm. I used the TENS machine once the contractions got more painful (after about 8hours) and after they broke my waters right through until the birth (four hours later). Just at the end I needed a bit more help and used the gas and those two things were both really helpful in getting me through labour (and some heat packs and massage from DH and my other support person). I'd like to get a TENS machine again this time but i've changed hospitals so need to find out where to hire.
AFM: Went to the OB on Friday. Baby growing nicely but Dr confirmed what I suspected: head down but lying on an angle. (I've been feeling lots of pushing sensations against my left hip bone when baby kicks up the top of my tummy. I suspected i was being head butted down there and I was right). I asked if that was a problem- I figured baby is not far off where s/he's meant to be and would just adjust a little in labour! Dr said: "um, it is if you want a natural birth! But don't worry, there's still time for baby to settle into the right position". Pretty uncomfortable a lot of the time now: lots of pressure on one hip through the day (baby head butts!) and strong stretching sensations: I can see the baby pushing it's little bottom or back up creating this wierd tummy mountain!
Question: trying to decide whether to organise a 2nd support person this time round. My friend who supported us last time has a young baby now and not sure if i'll ask her again. I thought about getting a doula or private midwife but don't know how to go about it and maybe i've left it too late anyhow... anyone know of one? Used one? Maybe i'll ask my OB if he's seen any good ones...
thanks everyone! im thinking ill try the raspberry leaf tea, but in tablet form, im a fussy eater and i know i wont like the tea lol!
as for the tens machine, ive been interested in it from the moment i heard about one, im looking forward to the birthing class to find out about it - thanks possum youve pretty much talked me into it!
possum - sorry no idea on the doula/midwife - support person will be my mum.. dh will be hopeless.. he will be there but thats about it!!
im very uncomfortable too.. somedays i feel like she is going to come out! the pressure is unbelieveable! i was showing dh how the midwife showed me what the baby was doing - one with her fist and the other hand was a "hole" and she showed me how the baby keeps just sliding in and out.. i was scared haha!!
wbm - thanks for your advice! i may as well try it, its not going to hurt trying it anyway!! im only just 5"2 so i thought maybe height would have something to do with it, im carrying very low, everyone comments on it! i feel like i should be supporting my gut when i walk lol
I've thought the same thing too PM - my DH isn't confident during labour, I mean he does what he's told, but that doesn't happen all the time. He's lovely and was really helpful, but I think I'd like someone to help him out (but not family!). I've thought about a doula - some of them are really expensive though. A friend of mine is a student midwife and I've thought of asking her too - she's got two little ones though. She may know someone though. At this time of year, a student midwife getting to the end of his/her course may be interested - you could try the doula/IM board on here, or contact a local midwifery uni near you to find out - I'm sure they get plenty of calls. You shouldn't have to pay them!
Oh - hope bubs shifts a bit, that's mean to Mummy!
Raspberry leaf tea is meant to increase the strength of contractions. The evidence says it doesn't necessarily decrease the length of labour, but it does shorten second stage (pushing). It also helps with contracting the uterus down after the baby is born (why I think it helped me even though I had a c/s).
I don't want to go to work today! Boo. Oh well, last day for the week
MM- even if bub is a lil out on size, please try not to stress. This bub measured at 5w4d when I should have been over 8weeks already and now it is a huge chubba ready to pop.
WBM- hope the swelling isn't anything serious!
Phebee- I think most of us get the pain so nothing really to worry about *hugs*
CM- Lol it's ok, you didn't kill the thread. Glad to see things are going well to date
AFM- eww.... I just sneezed and got snot in my eye! Better than this morning when I sneezed and peed myself a lil oh yes way tmi...
Bub has been very quiet today, only just made the 10movents in 12hrs cut off... Well took a lil longer but not too bad. Makes a big difference from the usual 10 movements in 5mins that bub usually does lol. Have an appt up at the hossy tomorrow morning so will bring it up then as well as that I don't know why but I've had two asthma attacks in the past three nights. Thank goodness I have my puffer handy nowdays anyway. Well time for sleep cos I'm absolutely pooped. Night all
awful night with DS, I've had less than 5 hours sleep, and now, because I have to go to work, I have to wake him up. Poor sausage! Oh well, hopefully he sleeps well at our friend's place today And I hope he's good for her - she's 35 weeks pregnant and will have two toddlers!
