Did you drink coffee while you were pregnant?

Just curious if anyone continue their coffee intake while pregnant. I went cold turkey while I was pregnant with DD. These days, I've been so tired and ended up drinking 1 cup of coffee and feeling a bit guilty as I'm enjoying the coffee. I'm not a coffee addict, but I love to have one every morning before I was pregnant. Well, now, so far, I've only had 3 cups of coffee in total for this pregnancy. Of course, the 3 cups of coffee are drank on separate days. As is, I already feel so bad for drinking that one cup of coffee.... but it helped so much since I was so tired and it really made my day.

I know that studies said it's okay to consume 3 small cups of coffee (150mg of caffeine) per day. I'm far from this but am curious to know if anyone kept their one cup of coffee per day during their pregnancy! Thank you in advance for all replies!

I did. I even had 2 on occasion.
I also drank coffee while I was breastfeeding and it didn't seem to affect my bubbas at all. I never drank it in the afternoon just in case it kept them awake but on the days I didn't have a coffee I didn't notice any differance.

I was/am a cup a day girl too. I had to give them up and switch to decaf for a the first three months breastfeeding due to DS having reflux issues with the cafiene, but I am back on the morning coffee now, with no effect on DS anymore !!!

I actually craved the taste of coffee with my last pg - I drank a dare espresso iced coffee nearly every single day of my pg as well as having 2 cups a day LOL. He was fine, a gorgeously calm baby. The small amount of coffee in instant is nothing compared to if you were having brewed coffee or espresso's etc.

Wow, I am surprised to hear that many pregnant women drink coffee while pregnant or breastfeeding. My doctor said that I should completely eliminate my caffeine intake even though I was those 1 cup a day of instant coffee person. I have to admit without having my cup of coffee, some days, I look like a zombie! DH always wondered why I look so crappy in the morning, well, I should tell him to stay away from his coffee for a day or two... then I'm sure he'll understand why do I look so washed out in the morning. I had my cup today and boy, it sure felt like I was in heaven. I know espresso is the stronger type so I stay away from it. On occasion, I would have a cup of hot chocolate instead of coffee to satisfy my caffeine urge. Well, now that I have heard from so many of you, I will enjoy my 1 cup/day of instant coffee. This made my day!!!! Thank you girls.

Naturally in a perfect world we would abstain from anything considered bad, but it's all about moderation - if you were having 6 strong brewed coffees a day then that would be possibly bad, but instant coffee is nowhere near the same. And if you're out and about and want a coffee, ask for a half strength one (which I do all the time anyway as everyone makes it too strong for my liking).

Trillian, it's so good to know about that. I have never thought of asking for a half strength one. When I wasn't pregnant, I love going to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. My gosh, I can't remember the last time I stepped into Starbucks for a coffee! Most likely more than 2 years!!! From now on, if I am in my cravings while driving, I'll stop for a half strength one.... thank you and thank you for the wonderful piece of information!!!

LOL this time i stayed away from coffee for first trimester. i got a piece of paper from hopsital saying you can have 2-3 small cups a day (which i had forgotten about) and now i have a cup of instant maybe 2 times a week. i had forgotten how good it is and have to restrain myself from having MORE MORE MORE! :-)

    Hollo,

Yes, coffee is so good and I have to admit that it's hard to refrain from more. But, I guess having 1 to 2 cups a day is okay. Like Trillian said, everything in moderation! So, let us all enjoy our pregnancies with our cup of coffee! YAY!

Last pregnancy I had one nearly every day, except towards the end because I was too hot (it was summer).
This pregnancy I really haven't felt like it at all. Perhaps once the nausea abates some more (read: nausea - you had BETTER abate some more, LOL!) I will go back to one small but well-made coffee a day.

I still have my 1 real coffee every morning - I did last pregnancy and while BF. I was never told to go off it completely and I think the nervous breakdown I would suffer if I did would cause more harm to the baby than 1 cup of coffee a day!

Also I work 3-4 days per week and if I didn't have a cup of coffee before work I would be completely useless.

I didnt touch coffee for first 17 weeks, yuk, but now I have one or two a day. One is always decaf from shops (decaf through the water process) and very rarely I'll have an instant. If the coffee shop doesn't do water decaf (much healthier process) I will get a weak latte.

We have an espresso machine at home and was very bummed out when I thought I couldn't drink it thinking it would have a higher caffeine content then instant coffee. Well I did some research and there is actually less caffeine in the espresso. Although the do still say you can have 2 -3 cups of instant coffee a day!
