We have an espresso machine at home and was very bummed out when I thought I couldn't drink it thinking it would have a higher caffeine content then instant coffee. Well I did some research and there is actually less caffeine in the espresso. Although the do still say you can have 2 -3 cups of instant coffee a day!

i say 1 cup of good coffee a day would be fine, if you are a regular coffee drinker. In fact, with decaf, there may be less caffeine, but there are heaps more chemicals!!

Hot or cold chocolate or just eating chocolate of course does contain caffeine but not as much. I love dark chocolate to eat, but this has more caffeine so I try to limit it.

I also enjoy a chai latte about once or twice a week. Yum!!

I however, noticed a change for the good when I gave up chocolate when breastfeeding. I hated it for the first week, but quickly got used to not having it.

My first question to my GP when i found out I was UTD was "do i really have to quit coffee" LOL

he said as long as it's not 22 cups a day then no probs. I have always been a 1 proper shop bought latte a day and i've continued to be so right through being preg and will continue to do so.

i think i would probs die if i didn't have one in the morn i hate to imagine my moods being worse than they currently are! LOL

I did just read recently in a pregnancy mag... sorry dont recall which one... but it said less than 4 cups a day is fine.

i have only ever had 1 or 2 at most but since being pg i cant stomach it. I still love the smell and feel like having one when i smell it... but as soon as its in i mouth its just NO WAY!

I'm in the UK and read an article last weekend that revised caffiene limits from 3 coffees (or 6 teas) per day to 2 coffees (or 4 teas). So I really don't think you need to worry. I think we all have a tendency to over think these things. Our mothers' generation never worried about stuff like this and we all turned out pretty healthy, no? So enjoy your cup without guilt!

Wow, it's been awhile since I last came to BB to check the posts out as I was out of internet due to moving. I couldn't wait to hear more what others have to say. These past few days, I have been drinking one instant coffee a day as the moving has really made me more tired than I could imagine. Having said that, I raised an issue to my mother and asked her whether she drank coffee while she was pregnant with my brother and I. Well, she said that while she was pregnant, she loved jasmine tea and never really counted how many cups of those did she had with us. Well, both my brother and I are okay. Of course, tea has less caffeine when compare to coffee. I think "everything in moderation" suits best. I think part of the pregnancy make us worry more. Nowadays, there are so many m/c or unexplained medical illnesses, which is why we, mother nature, do make us worry more. Gosh, I still remember I was overworried while I was pregnant with DD. And when she was born, I thought back and laughed at myself. Unfortunately, with this pregnancy, I still have certain worries which I would probably laugh at when DD/DS is born.

I am so glad that I don't have to give up my cup of coffee in the morning. Sad enough to give up my Starbucks espresso.... but am quite content with my instant coffee in the morning! YAY!!!

When asked by my FS he said esspresso is fine and almost better than instant beacuse there is less chemicals in the mix. So I have my latte in the morning when I get to work and throughly enjoy it
