I can stand on one leg, but can't get my legs to move up high enough, I get this really weird feeling in my hips when I do, so I have to sit down to do it lol
I don't have clicky hips/pelvis though, so it's confusing the heck out of me. And it's rather embarrassing to be doing the penguin waddle already lol
There's a number of ways to help cope. It's not nice, but it's one of those pregnancy things. Do NOT try to ignore the pain and work through it. It only makes it worse.
FYI - I ended up on crutches the last 2 months of pregnancy and still have left over SPD 11 weeks after birth (I can walk slowly but not normally yet). Some women recover earlier, some later.
I didn't have a clicky pelvis until the baby got a big bigger and put more weight on my pelvis. But it does sorta sound like SPD, I'd go to a physio or chiro just to get checked out anyway. Can't do any harm
thanks Arimeh I'll look into it, but money is tight at the moment so it'll have to wait a few weeks until all the bills are paid. Seems to get worse every time I sit down for a while with my legs together. Very weird.
I have SPD, I went to a physio and she worked on the muscles in my upper thighs and across my pubic area and it made a world of difference, Money is tight for us too and I haven't been back but I get hubby to massage these muscles (upper thighs towards the inside front of the leg) and across my pubic bone it really helps, it hurts like hell because the muscles are overcompensating but worth doing. Try heat packs too and sleep with a pillow between your knees, I also bought a support belt which really helps.
I still have quite a bit of pain but I was at the point where I couldn't work so doing these things has really helped.
Good luck I hope you get some relief soon
Hi everyone, I also suffer from SPD. I had it with my first pregnancy and I now have it again in my second pregnancy... Both pregnancies it started around 17-18 weeks, though this time I am finding it far more worse!
My first child was a book c/s as she was in a breech position, and up until now (last 4 weeks of pregnancy) this baby has been in a breech position also, so I am pretty unfamiliar with labour and vaginal birth.
I'm worried that it is going to make things difficult to birth naturally but I am definately going to give it my all! One thing that I have noticed is that earlier in the pregnancy, the only time I got truly comfortable with my pelvis was when I would lay on my side with my legs tight together. Now towards the end if feels so uncomfortable doing this that I am barely getting sleep, my partner has to help me to the toilet, and it feels as though it is 'stuck', bending the wrong way or going to break! I'm so scared of it breaking in child birth as my mum had SPD with her pregnancies and her biggest natural birth (also last natural birth) actually caused the pubis joint to break!
Any tips for labour and birth would be much appreciated!
Oh nasty, you poor thing!! I hate to say it, but I had the same pains from roughly 20 weeks right up until my waters broke. It's quite common and nothing really to worry about except that it's painful and quite debilitating. I used to crawl to the toilet in the middle of the night as my pelvis just couldn't support me until I'd 'warmed up' a bit. The deep groin pain was constant too and hurt most when I slept and rolling over was hell. That pain was caused by a muscle that's attached to the uterus so as it grows, the pain increases.
I saw physios who specialise in pregnancy/women's health the whole way through. I wore a belly brace a lot of the time too. Bring it up with your midwife but I'd also recommend going to see a good physio - but it's best that they are pregnancy specialists.
As one of the other girls mentioned, it could well be SPD but as you can stand on one leg, it sounds more like what I had which ended up being the muscle pulling in the groin and just dodgy hips & pelvis which didn't cope well with all the growing.
