Westy - I had an ECV with DS at 38w which was unsuccessful. We could move his bottom but (as we found out when he ended up distressed through labour and had an emergency c-section) his head was stuck between my placenta and rib cage. It didn't stop me trying for a vaginal breech birth and my OB was very supportive.
DD was transverse to 36 weeks and then breech to 38 weeks. I went in for an ECV to discover she had turned the night before. She was a VBAC a week and a bit later.
I also did acupuncture and moxibustion and positioning and handstands in the pool (and what a sight that is at fullterm ) which helped immensely in getting my babies to try to turn (in the case of DS) and successfully turn (with DD).
Let me know if you have any specific questions that I may be able to answer for you.
