How many came early with your 1st?

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering how common this is? I know it's the 'norm' that you usually go over with your first, but I have this feeling / knowledge / acceptance or something, that I'm going to come early by about 3 weeks. Just wondering if an intuition can be right or am i just working with wishful thinking? I feel very hard, very low and I don't know, just have this 'feeling'.

Wondering what everyone elses experiences with their first has been?

    Thanks

I was three days early and i kind of expected to go over because that was what i constantly heard. I had no idea or intuition of any kind i was just hoping that i would go naturally. I just didn't want to be induced.

I had a feeling that I would give birth early, but only by a day or so. Amy ended up deciding that she wanted to be here almost a month early. In a way it's great that you have that extra time to meet and be with your bub but it is very stressful too, as there are a number of things that can go wrong when your bub is prem. I know everyone says that you usually go over with your first but it's not true for everyone....and in the end your bub will arrive when it wants to. It was a total shock to me for Amy to come that early but she's happy and healthy....a little behind the other bubs with milestones (which is to be expected) but other than that all perfect. Good luck and I hope everything goes wonderfully for you.

I had a feeling I was going to come early with my first because my belly was very hard and bubs didn't move as much etc but ended up going 3 days over...I think it was wishful thinking for me. This time I think I will go on time or a few days over so maybe I'll go early this time haha

It depends on your definition of 'early'.

Full-term is anywhere between 37ish weeks and 41ish weeks gestation. So a delivery that occurs anywhere within this timeframe is actually 'on-time' and neither early nor late!

My daughter was born exactly 2 weeks before my EDD (so still 'full-term' but certainly earlier than I was expecting for a first-time bub). I'm hoping for this baby to arrive before it's EDD, however my obstetrician advised me that it could come at any time.

I have 2 sons who both came early.....my first son came 10 days early and my 2nd son was actually induced as I had cholestasis....but once I had the gel I went into labour immediately, so they think maybe he was going to come soon anyway, he was born 13 days before my due date...which was nice given that he was due on Christmas Day

I always thought i would go early with DS as he was a week bigger the whole way and just had that feeling. My due date then came and went and he was born 2 days overdue.

Marisa was born 3 days early, but so many factors come into play with being early, its so hard to get an accurate response. Some people wont know when they conceived/last period, some may have had an innacurate ultrasound (which is innaccurate up to a week either way), you may have had an unskilled sonographer, your baby may have a health problem, you may have, the baby's position may influence when labour happens - so it's all so difficult to really know who comes early and who doesn't. And how do we know that the baby really did come early if the dates where wrong anyway

I think babies come when they need to, not on a date, and if you go by the stats, only 3-5% are born on that EDD with 40% born up to 2 weeks before that and 40% up to 2 weeks after.
