Question "Seeing stars"??? (when its not night)

I just got up before from the couch to go to the bathroom and was seeing "stars" (it was like liottle white dots moving everywhere in front of my eyes and in my peripheral (sp?) vision).

It lasted a good 3 minutes before they went away. Hasn't happened before. Does anyone know what that means? It is not because I haven't eaten because I have, and I am having plenty to drink. I kind of feel all yucky at the moment though. Body feels all sore and very lethargic.

My bp has been a bit all over the place the last couple of appointments. Through my pregnancy it has been quite low but the last 2 weeks it has been up at my appointments, where I then have to be monitored and then it goes back down.

Has this "seeing stars" business ever happened to anyone else?

contact your hospital hun - it's possibly a sign that your BP is playing games again and the last thing you want to do is ignore it. it's possible you've had a drop in BP on standing up, or it may have gone up - given you're due at the moment, it's definitely best to make a phone call

    good luck

Can be a sign of pre eclamapsia so get someone to take you to hospital and have BP checked.

This happens to me all the time - my BP does tend to be on the low side.
It happens to me when I stand up too quickly.
I hope thats all it is for you too! Take care

Stars can be sign of high BP, but at the moment my BP is fine and i too get it when i stand up too quickly from lying down or even just bending over. I am a little paranod about my BP as i had pre eclampsia with my first preg. I asked OB about it and he said it is common in pregnancy, it takes a while for your BP to catch up with the movement of your body when preg.

But, it is certainly worth getting checked, you can even just pop into a local chemist and have your BP checked, most pharmacies do it. If your BP is fine, then i wouldn't think it was too much to worry about.

But like the others say, just incase it is BP related, worth a check.

    Hello
I had extremely low blood pressure with my second and saw stars all the time when standing up. I agree with the others and get checked just to be safe

I had the exact same thing at the end of my pregnancy with ds2. I rang the hospital as vision disturbances was on their list of things that you should call them about, they said to come in and they checked urine, bp and put me on the ctg machine for monitering, everything was fine but I was relieved to go in and have it checked out. As a previous poster said it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, I would contact your dr or hospital and check just to be on the safe side, you're so close to the end!! All the best!

Hey Ali I just came back and saw your thread. I'm assuming you're out now getting your BP checked but just wanted to say that I hope everything is ok with you. It wouldn't be surprising if your BP was a little out of whack atm given the stress of the past few days.

same here i have low bp (about 90/50) and get dizzy alot and see stars, been getting lots of pins and needles and dropping things, midwife said not to worry so im trying not to! ...try not to rush around, get up slowly, and make sure your eating properly. you can buy home bp monitors if your worried about it, my mum has one and it straps to your wrist like a watch then you hold your arm across your chest and about 10 secs later it gives you a digital reading...or go to ur chemist they have bp machines.
    good luck

    Hi,

I would actually recommend going to the hospital to be checked out. Might be nothing or low bp etc but could be a sign of pre eclampsia so probably best to see them so they can check your urine, put you on the ctg etc to double check rather than just check ur bp

Well I went to the chemist for a bp check and it was high for me at 136/85 (my normal is around 115/60).

Rang the hospital and they asked if I had any other symptoms like pain where my liver is, swelling, headaches.
I dont have any of those other symptoms apart froma bit of swelling around my feet and ankles (which I havent had before) but it is pretty hot today.

They sad that the rate that they worry about is when it is over 140/90 so I just have to monitor symptoms and if anything comes up or if my vision goes funny again I am to come in.

hmmm Ali, that is a bit of a jump for you. I'd be inclined to go in too just to be on the safe side.

When my BP was 178/126 i had no symptoms at all. Not pain, no stars, no nothing. I felt fine. So not everyone has other symptoms IYKWIM. A would have thought a urine check would be warranted given the rise in your BP. If the hossy is not keen for you to come in, could you see your GP?

    Hi hun,

I agree with Falguni actually, thing is if it's nothing it's nothing but better to be safe than sorry, I think I would just go in to be checked out

They did say I could come in if I would like to. I told them I would see how I go. Maybe I will make a trip up to my local G.P and get a urine test and bp check again.

What happens to the baby if I have high b.p?? I am still feeling movement and cervix pains.

The change would make me want to see and assess you. Get checked as it is indicative of pre-eclampsia.

Definitely go and get some other checks at the hospital! You can't mess around with pre eclampsia... it can come on very quickly. I don't want to freak you out, but it is definitely worth checking out. 140/90 is the standard value for high bp, but if you have a substantial jump when you normally have reasonably low bp it can also signal a problem. I had very high bp with my first pregnancy and still felt plenty of fetal movement and felt fine, but blood flow to the baby can be compromised and your internal organs can start to shut down. Don't worry about inconveniencing anyone, that is what they are there for.

High BP can be sign of PE, which can be very serious for you and baby as berrme says. Also don't want to freak you out, but worth getting a check. If hossy said you can go in, i would go. It may be nothing, just high BP due to pregnancy which can happen, but always best to be on the safe side.

In my case, due to PE my placenta was shutting down, DD was born a pretty average length but only 2.6kgs. Basically she wasn't getting enough nutrients from the placenta. I didn't realise quite how serious it was until she was born. Then i finally understood why everyone was freaking out about my BP and the fact she had stopped growing.
