    Crimes against food

    Would love to know what others think are crimes against food. My main one is:

    Using flavoured corn chips for nachos I'm sorry if you like it, but to me it is just wrong and tastes awful. For me it is plain corn chips only, if you have ever tasted bbq mixed with salsa, you will know what I am talking about.

    So what is a crime to you?

    ~Weet-Bix with Choc milk or Apple Juice (the first is Marc the second is his father).
    ~Tomato sauce on most things *blerk*, especially when used in place of gravy for a roast.
    ~Sending back a steak at a high end restaurant that is cooked to perfection because its not charred black enough... Chefs know what they are doing, the tend to serve meat the best way for the cut or for the dish, if you want to tell a chef how to cook a steak go to TGIF's.
    ~Lumpy Mashed Potato... and no I'm not talking rustic, I'm talking lumps of rock hard uncooked potato... blerk
    ~Lumpy sauces... *shiver*

    I have lots... so I'll be back...

    * whipped cream from a aerosol can, infact any type of fake cream... pluh!
    * eating a meal while walking/on the move. Bad for you, and because you aren't focused on eating you will probably overeat.
    * Adding msg.
    * fake sugar.
    * poor quality chocolate, mainly found in children's easter confectionery.
    * Anything that is pretending to be something that it is not.
    * Margarine.

    BBQ sauce on eggs & bacon (my cousin does this)
    Butter or margarine on salad sandwiches (why would you want to eat that with lettuce, beetroot etc...)
    Raw puff pastry (my gf eats this)
    Butter or margarine on Sweet Muffins (ie: chocolate or berry. Muffin Break offer this all the time WT?)
    Tomato Sauce on Chicken Pies - yuck

    The idea actually started to protect the bread from becoming soggy if the sandwich is not being consumed straight away. Butter is meant to act as a protective barrier...

    I'm bad I actually prefer the taste LOL!

    I put butter on one piece of bread when making a salad sandwich... mayo on the other... preferably real mayo but a good shop bought one is ok. Cailin is right, the order of things is important on a salad sandwich... lettuce needs to be next to the bread to stop moisture making the bread soggy... never put beetroot and tomato beside each other or else the sandwich will slide apart in your hands... preferably separate with some grated carrot or sprouts.

    • Mayo made from condensed milk - how can something sweet replace something that is made from egg yolk and oil?
    • Popcorn with icing sugar - was a big thing at parties when I was a kid in Tassie, could not stand it, I am a savoury popcorn girl here unless it is proper candied popcorn.
    • Seasoning a dish before tasting - I was taught that it is an insult to the Chef to cover a dish in salt and pepper before you even know what it tastes like.

    I am like Bath with the butter and mayo on a salad sandwich. Cailin - nice to not be the one for once telling people about why butter is used on sandwiches.

    I'm with Cailin on the tomato sauce. I used to get really annoyed with my ex for smothering everything with it.

    Yep, tomato sauce on everything is pretty infantile unless you are camping and/or pregnant :P during which all rules can be thrown out the window!

    I also agree regarding popcorn, icing sugar is wrong.

    Never had icing sugar on popcorn!

    Aaron thinks when I have vegemite or peanut butter on crumpets or pancakes is a crime LOL.

    ewwwwww @ vegemite on pancakes... The butter has to be all melty so the icing sticks to the popcorn and its almost like icing... DIVINE!

    You know what's worse though Cai, if you accidentally use maple syrup flavoured pancake mix & then put vegemite on them!!! A friend & I did that once when we were in high school, sooo gross.

    Oh oh I thought of one. I don't understand what seems to be an American breakfast thing of putting maple syrup on bacon. EEEWW!
