Question what do you eat when you go out?

ok i know i go on about food - coz i love it!! who doesnt????

just recently i got a lecture from a friend of the family telling me off about eating fish and salad at a restaurant as it could be contaminated and cause infection which sent me and DH into a spin - then i just figured that the salad still had moisture on it so it must have been washed recently and the fish was cooked al the way thru and piping hot, what could the harm be?

question is, are salads safe in restaurants? as they are pretty much all i eat when i am out - like chicken salads ad fish and salad, thought i was doing the right thing? am i or am i puttign me and the little one in danger?

can i have a few ideas as to what you girls eat when out? thanks

There is a whole world of difference between a freshly prepared salad in a cafe or restaurant, and a nasty salad bar situation where that pasta salad has been sitting there for how long...??? I quizzed my dietician about this early in Pg and she said, exercise your commonsense. If it looks fresh (and you can tell with salad greens cos they 'wear' around the edges if they're not) and it's prepared in a reputable kitchen, then it's probably ok. I even use the pre-chopped bags of salad (wash them before use) when they are well within the use by date. No problems there!

Nice time of year though for yummy hot soups!

I agree with Marydean about the salads, you can usually tell is a salad is looking a bit old - the greens wont look as crisp and light kwim? They look a bit droopy and lacklustre. it is always your right too as a consumer that if your meal doesn't look like it has been cooked properly to send it back to to kitchen. I don't order fish in a restaurant unless we are on the coast LOL - my general rule of thumb is you can't get fresh seafood when you live more than 6hrs from the sea I worry more about chicken than fish anyway. I think it is a gross generalisation to say that restaurants only use the 'leftovers' on their slower days regardless of what people may or may not have seen working in the industry, and if you did, then the restaurant was not up to stratch and you shouldn't eat there any day of the week.

I tend to eat ceasar salads, or steak when we go out if there is nothing else that takes my fancy.
