oooo Babyluv, I very much encourage you to try it!!! We started off just buying the packet mixes in the supermarket aisle. I don't know how much you usually pay for bread a week, but we paid quite a bit as we don't eat white bread and like it 'heavy'. A four loaf box of wholegrain german grain bread mix costs about 8 dollars, and it's a 'just add water' affair.
The things I'm cooking now are all with basic cooking ingredients that I already have i.e. flour, marg, sugar PLUS bread improver and yeast. It takes about 3 cups of flour to make a white loaf, so a 1kg bag will do 2 loaves. (or 30 rolls!) The yeast and bread improver are in the cooking section of the supermarket and about $2 each, but there's HEAPS in each.
I'm very much looking forward to making cinnamon rolls and hot cross buns!!!!
