Today I started doing the C25K program. I'm sure there was a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it.
I would like to know who else is doing it or has done it and what you think/thought of it.
My day one: 90second walk on about 5.5k and incline of 1 most of the time, then 60second jog on between 7.6-8k. By the 28 minute mark I couldn't do the jog so just maintained the walk on about level 6.3k for the last couple of minutes.
I did it and was really happy with it. I ended up jogging quite well but ended up with shin splints as my feet are turning in and I didn't realise it. But the program itself is good and I plan on doing it again once a week within the next couple of weeks as my legs are feeling better, and I am now used to wearing orthopedic insoles.
I lurvvved C25K! It took me longer than the 9 weeks, as I repeated a couple of weeks as I didnt feel like I was 'ready' to move onto the longer runs. But eventually I did, and I went from not being able to run 100m to a full 5kms.
I plan on starting it again once bub is here and I have settled into some sort of a rountine.
A couple of tips....
- Remember to stretch
- Go slow!! Speed is not important, there were days when I was jogging so slow I seriously could have been walking faster
- Schedule it, and go - dont give yourself time to think up excuses (cause you will always find one!)
- I printed off all the weeks on to a chart and had it on my closet door.. it was so great to get home and cross that day off
- Join Calorieking the forum is great for motivation..
- When you think you cant possibily go any further.. go that bit further - you will surprise yourself!
- Find what works for you, inside on a treadmill or outside - it doesnt matter. For me outside worked better as I could push myself to make it to next pole, or fence etc
hmmm will add any others I can think of.

I seem to be having trouble getting past week 2. I just don't seem to be able to do it 3 times a week I'll need to try harder I think. Thanks for the inspiration!
I started this and got preggers so stopped, started again and injured my back so stopped ... I did find that doing it on real roads / paths a lot better and less painful than on a treadmill, the slightly uneven surfaces will reduce shin splints.
I was doing this last year and going well for me until Christmas holidays. Sad to say I've struggled to find the same dedication. Perhaps I'll try the marking of a calendar idea.

Is there anyone out there doing the c25k at the moment?
I just started last night and although it was a slog, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected. I didn't stop once which was a huge effort for me!!
Would love to be able to chat with anyone doing this. I've got some good podcasts to listen to which help a lot.
I'm going to be starting it in a few days once DH has finished his night shifts. I did start it a few months ago, but ended up injuring my knees. Hopefully this time things will go a bit more smoothly!
Good Luck!
I did this last year and it was good. I still job once or twice a week.
Kel - I got injured knees from jogging too and it turned (after I went to physio) that my feel roll in a bit so the alignment is all out. I ended up getting some in-soles to make my feet straight and haven't had a problem since.
Niadla - I would love to know what you listen to. I find jogging really boring and anything would help!
Nialda, it took til the first run of the second week that I couldn't handle running on them anymore. I tried to persevere, but they just wouldn't let me run! One was worse than the other. But the rest of me actually felt really good. Evn though I hate running afterwards I would feel great, sore, like muscle/effort sore, but it felt really good. I said to DH one day that now I know why people actually enjoy running, once you're fit and your body could handle the running, the high must really feel good, and be addictive!
I am up to week 7 which is 25 minutes of straight running. My motto was alway..."i dont run, its against my religion!" I cant believe I am this far. Its taken me a lot longer to do 7 weeks...probably 10/11 weeks so far. I dont go fast because i know i wont make the time if i push too hard. I am happy that I can just run the times for that week. I lost a bit of motivation around Christmas /New years because of some personal issues, but once i got back into it, I cant live without it...well! I dont stretch but I try and brisk walk hard. I tried it on my mums treadmill and hated it so i stick to paths. I also invested $200 in some properly fitted runners which made a world of difference.
I will start it shortly, life is a bit too hectic at the moment. Once the last bits of turmoil are finalised in my life, then I will start it. I am currently walking for 15-20 minutes a day, that is as much exercise as I can fit in.
I have just completed Week 1, but I think I will probably do week 1 again Although I was able to get through all the runs, I think repeating it will do me good to get me back into the swing of it.
