    Nothing is happening...

12 months ago I started playing sports. I've not done anything, any real exercise/sports since high school. I thought I might have seen a difference in my body since starting, but I haven't. Nothing.
I don't have scales, so no idea what I weigh atm, but I have jeans that were a bit loose on me 18 months ago & they now fit. Not the results I want

I'm not over weight. I really don't have much to lose at all, just my belly & toning up really.

I am definetly fitter than I was, but that's it. I just don't understand why I'm not losing anything. I haven't changed my diet much, but I don't eat much junk at all. I'm not all fat free, but nothing overly bad, except my one coke a day

I just thought being as active as I am these days, there'd be some kind of difference. Somewhere. I just started working again, cleaning cabins at the c'van park, so on my feet 4-5 hours most days. Hoping that'll do something I guess. Netball on Thursdays & Saturdays. With work & 4 kids there's not much time or energy left for anything else except constant house work.

I walked every morning with a friend for a few months as well. Hard walking, pushing a pram through sand etc, but I still didn't see anything. Only stopped that because I'm working now.

Do I really have to do more, or should I just wait now I'm working & see what happens? From doing nothing at all to being constantly on the go, I should see something shouldn't I? I've upped my water intake since working too. Hoping that helps.

Maybe my only option is hard core gym time exercise & every day stuff won't help.

You have to balance both diet and exercise. If you increase excercise what you could be seeing with no weight loss is muscle gain and fat loss but because muscle weighs more than fat it may not show up on the scales.

I might be gaining muscle, but i'm not loosing fat. Not that I can see anyway. I haven't got scales, so not looking at weight loss, just hoping to see the difference in my body somehow.

What is your diet like? Do you eat much wheat/white flours/sugars?

More water can help boost your metabolism, but sounds like you're pretty healthy. Lots of it is diet based - like my PT said one day, that underarm batwing thing - its diet based. Cant remember exactly but she said its subcutaneous (?) fat which only goes away with dietary changes, not just exercise.

I'd recommend juicing for anyone wanting to lose weight. Cherie Cabom is the juice lady if you look up her book/site, lots of yummy recipes.

I do eat white bread etc, but I try not too. And not much. I try do wholemeal wraps etc instead. I actually bought whole meal flour, for baking, but haven't opened the packet yet

It is really only my belly though, so maybe I should look into it.

I had a friend who did juicing, but not sure I could. We don't get much variety in fruits & veggies here. Only basics, so I don't think there's be enough of the good stuff.

I'll try upping the water more. I know don't drink enough. Only 700 mls - 1 ltr a day. And thats only the days I work/play sport. On other days I'm lucky to have 2 or 3 glasses.

Maybe cut down slightly on portion sizes? I eat pretty well most of the time, but I certainly notice a big difference if I cut back a bit on my meal sizes (and that's with gym 3 times a week plus other incidental exercise). For me, I notice that more than upping my exercise levels.

muscle does not weigh more than fat, muscle just takes up less space than fat. 1kg of muscle is the same weight as 1kg of fat.

clover, maybe you aren't feeding your body enough? I know if I drop below a certain amount of food in a day my body doesn't like it and nothing shifts.

Actually Sopdet, that is something I've been needing to change, as well as portion sizes. I sometimes don't eat through the day at all if I'm busy. It comes around 2pm & I realise I'm hungry & that I haven't eaten a thing. Then I often over eat at dinner. I get full, but push in a couple extra bites coz I really don't like to waste food!

I have some changes I know I should definetly make, but I really thought because I don't really have much to lose, I thought just being more active would be enough. I guess not if thats not where the problem is.

BMI is 22/3 going off the last time I weighed myself. I could've gained or lost a kilo or 2, but not much more than that.

Right, time to eat properly... so more than a piece of than a piece of toast before work to do me til 1-2 when I finish... I don't eat much through the day at all...

It sounds like eating regularly might help to fuel your body for the day. Are you having a couple of serves of protein a day?

I'd say it's diet based either not eating enough or eating too much but not realizing. Try to eat more fruits, veg, lean protein (size of your palm is a serve) and some wholegrains (bread etc...)

another one to help with portion sizes is to drop the size of your plate, dinner plates are used for serving in this house, bread'n'butter plates are for eating off

    Fat will turn to muscle!

It's all about balance. You're cleary doing enough exercise but have you taken a good hard look at what your eating and, how often you are eating.

Skipping meals won't work as your body will retain the fat while waiting for its next meal.

    Good luck!
