    Miscarry at 8 weeks

    Hi everyone,

My partner and I are 42 yrs of age. In april 1st this year I miscarried. I couldn't believe it as I thought I was doing everything right, e.g. no alcohol, coffee etc. Anyway we have been trying for 4 months now and each time AF arrives. I just get so upset. So today I thought that's it, snap out of it and get on the forum and talk to the girls.

I have seen a new product that Elevit has brought out, it's to help with ovulation. Has anyone tried it or has heard of it. I am also taking Blackmores Concieve tablets. I suppose I am just eager now as time is ticking and I am starting to worry. But like my family said at least I can get pregnant, boy it was so lovely to be pregnant though.

I just feel it's the right time to try again.

    Love
    Connie

Connie I am so sorry to hear your loss. I too MC recently at 7w3d but didnt have a D&C done until 8w5d. It is such a heart breaking time and I hope you have lots of love and support around you.

As for elevit I have been taking it for 4 months now. I am not too sure if it helps with ovulation but it does reduce the chances of your baby getting spina bifita (sp?) because of the folic acid. And it alsoprepares your body for carrying baby. I guess a normal vit table plus folic acid would do but I like that elevit is specifically for conception and pregnancy.

Good luck hun. I hope that you get a BFP real soon

Thanks for welcoming me. I am feeling quite positive that it will happen. It's not worth stressing about it. All it good at the moment. Going to see a natropath next month, he is suppose to be one of the best here in the Riverland SA...So I will keep you posted.

    Hi Connie

I am sorry for your loss. I recently had my third loss and have done a lot of research on what can help with TTC and carrying to term at "advance maternal age". I have a few suggestions:

    1. Try CoEnzyme Q10 with your daily vitamin regime. It is supposed to help with mitochondria (forgive my spelling), but the energy in the cells of your eggs. Apparently this slows down as we age. At any rate, it is said to be very good for your heart. Worth speaking to your naturopath about.

    2. For Cervical mucus (which lasts longer in our younger years, but sticks around for less time each month in our um, mature, um years, drink 2-4 cups of green or white tea a day. I also conceived very quickly in my last two pregnancies with a supposedly sperm-friendly product called "PreSeed", which I purchased on the internet. Unfortunately I did miscarry both times, so I am not sure whether it was of any help. But it has helped many other women conceive and carry to term.

    3. If your cycles are getting shorter, take extra Vitamin B6. It can help lengthen our luteal phase (part of cycle after ovulation) and therefore aid implantation. Again, your naturopath can help with the dosage.

    Good luck!

    Hi there where there hope,

Thanks for the advice, I will look into it for sure. I am trying not to get desperate about it. But as you can see my age is the thing I worry about. But I don't feel 42 which is a good thing.

I will let you know how I go, my appt with the naturopath is next month.

    Cheers

    Hi Connie66,

I also just recently miscarried and Im so sorry for your loss, its so devastating and it does take some time to get over so please take some time off just for yourself. I recommend a lovely relaxing massage or bath. My husband took me out to dinner, because being italian I just love to cook every night so he wanted me to have a night off, and I'm also having a couple of days off work because I just couldn't be there, my energy levels were really low. Anyway I've been taking preconception tablets and have just started taking iron tablets as well, due to the blood loss. Always take it with orange juice cause otherwise body doesn't absorb it. I also recommend charting your cycles, I have been for 4 years and also check my mucus, if its eggwhite type of dishcarge then go for it because that is conducive to sperm and will carry it to the egg. I've been reading Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler and really really recommend it. Also acupunture and chinese herbalists will do wonders for your fertility, I've been recommended one and have been several times already, they have a good reputation for assisting in pregnancies. Well worth the shot I reckon, cause Im 37 and hubby is 42. Goodluck hope I've helped...ciao ciao Mannie

    Hi Mannie2903,

Sorry to hear of your loss as well. This is a fantatic website for support isn't it.

I am italian as well, so once my family found I was pregnant it was such a joy, but since I have lost bub, it's been great as you can never have enough family to support you. I will try and get that book you recommended.

Both my partner and I are 42, I know it will happen in time.

    Connie,

I used a naturopath after my drs kept telling me that my only hope was IVF, but on cycle 4 with the NP I got pregnant. I really do attribute my last and only successful pg to her. I hope you have some luck with your naturopath.

Someone mentioned green tea in one of the posts, while it has a myriad of health benefits, you should steer clear of it, particularly in the second half of your cycle.

Think lots of positive thoughts, keep your body and mind healthy, and your little one will come to you.

just a quick one....Green Tea dehydrates you, just like caffeine in coffee does, you need to drink litres of water just to compensate for drinking one cup of green tea. So yes steer clear of it...Goodluck...we will be TTC again next month after body recouperates from last mc. Wish us luck!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I don't know anything about the product you are asking about so can't offer any advice about that. I gave birth at the age of 42 so I will just offer you what advice I can from my perspective.

I had 3 pregnancies last year. The first two ended quite early. The third was a success. For the first two I was doing all sorts of things like taking different combinations of vitamins and avoiding caffeine and alcohol. For the successful one I didn't do anything at all and wasn't even taking folic acid (was not actively TTCing at the time) yet I still gave birth to a healthy bub.

I think when you get to our age you have a couple of hurdles. The first one is to get pregnant. I read somewhere recently that at the age of 42 the realistic chance of falling pregnant is something like 5%. That's why there are so many ladies of our age who have to have assistance to get pregnant. You've already shown you are capable of conceiving so you've jumped that hurdle successfully. You are very likely to be pregnant again soon. I think it took me 4 months then 3 months after each of my m/c's.

The next hurdle once falling pregnant is to stay pregnant. That ones a little harder. The problem with us is the quality of our aged eggs. If the quality is not good it's going to end up in an early miscarriage. I don't believe there's anything you can do about the quality of the egg so it's just a matter of hoping that a good quality one implants and then sticks. As I said it took me 3 goes last year to get a sticky one.

Take a pregnancy multivitamin that includes fishoil, temp so you know when you are most fertile and DTD every second day around that time to increase your chances.

In case you don't know there is a TTC thread here for older women (over 35). A word of warning though, many of the ladies in there are having to resort to assistance so it might be a little scary to look at their tickers.

    Best of luck.

LISA - I am the one who recommended Green/white tea. I understand it has almost negligable caffeine and have been using organic ones (as it is usually grown in China and my Chinese GP warned me about the high levels of pesticides used over there). I only used it to TTC in my last PG (MC no.3) , and went straight off it after the BFP. I am not that knowledgable, just read somewhere on the Net it is good for CM and has lots of nice antioxidents. Can you please explain why I should steer clear of it, particularly in the luteal phase? Please share - really interested in what you know
