Dont wait too long for them to call you back, if you dont hear in a few days ring them. Did they give you an enquiry number or something to identify your query incase you need to call them?

I am with Medibank private and did not have to pay a thing when my boys were born and put in special care and they where born at a private hospital. With Medibank Private you do not have to pay excess for kids.

    Exclamation

WARNING >>>>> Watch it if u r with MEDIBANK PRIVATE !!!!!

THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF !!!!!!!!

Wen I ws preg wt 1st bub jst ova 2yrs ago, I had 2 reps ova the phone & 1 in the actual office tell me my insurance level wld not cover me as a private patient in my nominated public hosp (I clearly told them wat hospital). And that I wld av 2 pay nearly $2000 to stay for 4nites in my own private room.

I found out from someone in the insurance area of the hospital 2days after I gave birth that I did not av to pay THAT MONEY at all as that hosp had a deal with certain insurance companies 2 encourage those of us wt private health insurance 2 use that public hosp.

Over a period of 3mths after my baby was born ... I kept ringing and was told the cheque owing 2 us ws either posted or went missing in the office. It ws dealt wt very unprofessional !!!

It wasn't until we threatened that we wld get our solicitor 2 further deal wt the matter as we were getting no where & it ws stressing us out, that we finally recieved the money owing after ova 3mths.

We received NO APOLOGY & NO ONE OFFERED 2 pay 4 the interest rate we had been paying on our credit-card 4 it from the earlier mths in my pregnancy wen we were told 2 1st pay 4 it.

JUST SHOCKING 2 deal wt wen u jst had a new baby (and a colic one at that)

Sorry about your experience Smiles. I have been with Medibank Private for well over 10 years and have never had any problems what so ever.

The team leader of the call centre called me back, with no new information.

I rang HBA and MBF on the off chance they would cover us if we transferred cover and miracle of miracles they both said they would and the premiums are cheaper! I'll go into a branch and get it all in writing before cancelling with AU, but big relief that we finally have some options. My dh is keen to quickly get to the dentist and physio before we cancel just to make sure we claim as much as possible from them.

When/if you decide to transfer, the new insurer should take care of cancelling the old insurance for you. After the problems you've had I too would be wanting somthing in writing to confirm both bubs will be covered.
You can also have your hospital with one insuere and your extras with another if you choose to.

    Hi
I hope this sorts itself out and soon.

we are with HCF and couldn't be happier we have top family plus multi cover.
as far as i know with most places you have to have family cover for 6 months brfore you give birth. so it all sounds a bit fishy to me.

funny thing is this time with my twins im going Private but the babies have been booked in public. i know a lady who had twins who needed special care and she left the hospital with a $15,000 bill. as her insurer only covers up untill a certain $ amount and her babies care cost more than thay pay. this time i get the nice room and stuff with the bubs but they are all free no matter what care they need.

    good luck anyway

i have been with medibank private for ages and had my twins with them
they do cost a bit more than most funds , but have well and truly got our moneys worth.
When i went in when i was pg with my twins- they actually made sure that we were on family coverage-so that the second twin was covered. On singles cover one baby is covered- on family- everyone is covered
our babes were in NICU and special care for 33 days - the fees for special care 5 years ago were $1100 per day per baby and NICU was well over $2,000 per day. Their ambulance rides were $33,000 one way and $20+ , 000 the other plus their pead visits at least daily at $55 a pop- we were bill for 80+ visits
we totalled up that the bill for them and myself was well over $80,000 and we did not pay a single cent of it. The only fees out of pocket were our OB, Surgeon assistant and Anethsist.
i know that if i had been in a public hospital - it all would have been covered as well, but my DS deterioted really quickly one day and it was only because he had continuity of care and that is Pead just thought he was just not right and just not himself that he investiaged it further and it turned out that he had got a staph infection in his blood stream that nealy killed him! I really do that the level of personal care that you get in the private system is worth paying for- but that is just my opinion. My son did in end up in RCH a public hospital at one stage and the level of care was fantastic, but we were dealing with a different person all the time and the continuity wasn't there.
HTH and defintaly family cover is best with the highest Hospital cover you can get.
