OMG, u girls can chat. It is so hard for me to get on here during the day as Luke only catnaps unless i'm out and about and at night i'm either buggered or trying to get things done that I didn't do during the day. At least Mark is home this week but is away for the whole week next week so will be interesting - the last few weeks it was only 2 nites that he was away for.
Well i better get going as it's way past my bedtime
Well, talking of sleep, we had a great night last night when she did finally go down... she slept from about 9.30-4.30, then til 8.00......woohoooo!!! The 5.30 mornnings seem to be a thing of the past....I hope......better not have jinxed myself!!!!
Erin thanks for the advice, I will go to the library to see what books I can borrow. She sleeps pretty well at night, it's just getting her to sleep and the day sleeps that aren't going so well.
Kel - Yeah I feel gross as well at the moment....I guess we have to be patient - it took us 9 months to put on the weight etc..although I'll never feel completely great as I have horrible stretchmarks!
Louis didn't sleep well until about 9 months old and he would have been about 1 when he put himself to sleep at night...I'm desperately hoping Dylans better at it than him and so far so good. Although I just can't keep Dylan asleep LOL. It's a good idea to settle them where they're going to sleep but I was rocking Louis for a loonnnggg time.
Dylan seem to be able to put himself to sleep a lot better. I just wrapped him before, put his dummy in - gave him a cuddle for about 30sec and put him down awake, gave him a little stroke on his forehead and walked out. Haven't heard anything yet...
To be honest - I think personality has a lot to do with it...Louis had such a small window of opportunity to get him to sleep at the right time with minimal fuss that I missed it most of the time. Dylan almost is overtired each bedtime because I'm doing things like getting Louis brekky etc and yet is still easy to get to sleep...
Erin - Sounds like that book really helped you - thats great!
Hi Kel,
Iggy is quite a good sleeper and we do the following things:
1. Firstly when he is awake we make sure he has some interesting activities to do. If he is absorbed when he is awake he tends to sleep a whole lot better.
2. I listen particularly for his tired cry and his stare eyes and know he is getting to that point.
3. I put him in his day sleep area - this is propped in a v shaped pillow on the couch next to where I work on the computer. I then pop in his favourite dummy which he is allowed during the day but not at night. NB I put him on the pillow even if he is grumbling (but not really crying - more the whingy type grumble) because the more I hold him the more stimulated he seems to get.
4. He doesnt like quiet while he sleeps because I think he feels alone then so I put on the tv or some music and make sure I am not very quiet. Sometimes I make little grumble noises or I move around the room so he know I am there.
5. I sit next to him while he settles himself although I don't look at him cos it seems to keep him awake. If he actually gets properly upset eg cries then I pick him up because he usually needs a nappy change or something instead. If he is just a bit grizzly (sometimes he grizzles while he is sucking - so cute!) then I just stay with him but not fuss over him.
HTH. Its hard that every little bub is so different. I also like the teddy bear idea that someone else brought up.
ps. If you dont like them to have a dummy you can try what I do at night. Occasionally he needs a dummy to calm at night but I dont like him to have one overnight. Once he is settled (and in a period where he is not sucking) I can usually pop it out and he will still go to sleep without fussing.
Wow you girls are so good. I just go with what Olivias up to. I have a small routine, but mostly she guides it. Is that bad????
At least I have worked out she sleeps better after a bath Something we dont do every day. Also she has started to get a bit of cradle cap, so I popped baby oil in her hair and massaged it in, will that do the trick? Its just the start... not like some kids I've seen with that thick scalp...yucky!
Hope you are all well
Melissa
I suppose each baby has their own personality & whatever works best for you is usually what works best for them.
Melissa it's not bad to go with what she wants if that's what works. Not everyone follows a routine. I just found it worked for me as he wouldn't sleep at all during the day & I was going nuts. Now around the same time each day he know's it's time for bed. I don't mind if he misses the morning nap I just usually make sure I'm home in the arvo.
Having said that he was horrible last night perhaps a growth spurt. I wasn't giving in though I didn't feed each time I spent 2hrs up & down re-wrapping him. Seems when he comes un-wrapped he wakes up. Has anyone used one of those wraps designed to keep legs & arms in etc?
I agree with the dummy at night, soon as he's asleep I take it out. I find now he often spits it out when he nods off, I go in later & move it so it's not near his face when he wakes up.
Melissa, I hope the oil works for the cradle cap, Charlie has it & it's not working for him
Hi Everybody,
We are doing much better than our last post...
Beau has been breastfeeding a little bit the past day or two...god not as much pumping praise the lord!!!
He is smiling and cooing and I fall in love with him more everyday!
Mimi- Beau has cradle cap too - for the past few days I bath his head with a flannel and water and then put vaseline on - it has cleared up heaps
Re body issues - my stomach looks like a brain there are so many stretchies! Gross!
Kel - I live in Newtown - there is a major shortage around here - I am waiting to hear back from the council re family daycare and we are going to the only care centre with an available spot this arvo to check it out - it breaks my heart to think of leaving him with anyone at the moment - I cry every time I think of it! I am only wanting to go back to work part time now, speaking of which my boss is coming over to discuss for lunch so I best go.
x
Thanks for boosting my confidance. I just listen and watch for what she wants to do. Am happy to go with that.
Its a nice day here in Melbourne, so am going for a walk.
As for the cradle cap, Olivia looks like she has realy oily hair... my mum said to put the vasaline in over night the wash it off. I should listen to what she says sometimes... she has had 8 children!
Thanks for the sleep advice girls. I have tried to be more watchful of Lily today to catch her in the first stages of tiredness...it seems to have worked, she had four sleeps today, only 30-40 mins each, but better than nothing. I also have been putting her down in her cradle half awake and letting her go to sleep herself. Not at night though, I have already resettled her once tonight...oh well one thing at a time!! Hehehehe I'm so impatient. I only give Lil a dummy at sleep times too and she spits it out when she settles and I take it away. She's not too attached to it anyway I could probably not give it to her, but I want her to have a sort of sleepy time routine...
Kristie, that's true that it took 9mths to get like this.....although I have put on a bit of weight (only about 2kg's, though I'm overweight anyway ) since having Lily, probably cause I'm not on my feet and running around after 20 2-5yr olds all day. I went for a walk for an hour today though which was lovely since it was a beautiful day here today.
Melissa, I do the same thing as you. What ever Lily wants she gets! I try to take her ques as they come. Though I do miss them sometimes and end up with one cranky pants bubba! I have found that she's got herself into a loose routine anyway, things seem to happen around the same time of day.
For the cradle cap, maybe try olive oil.I have heard that Baby oil actually has alot of chemicals in it. I use olive oil (for your body from the chemist) on Lil's skin every day
Jensam, hello! Glad to hear that your perserverance with bf is going ok. It's not fair that it can be so hard for some people. I am still trying too. My problem isn't that she fights it, I just can't build up a big enough supply to do it exclusively. Lily loves her boobytime and sometimes won't take a bottle, only booby. I have to try to trick her by giving her the breast then slip the bottle in, LOL!
I hope your work negotiations go well. Maybe look into getting a nanny for childcare? I imagine the cost of child care out in Newtown is quite alot, maybe it would be just about the same for you with a nanny, as well as it being (in my opinion) better for Beau at such a young age. Though in saying that I will have to use child care myself in the coming months! Only to work in a childcare centre myself. And I can't take Lily to my own centre due to 'conflict of interests' policies my workplace has. It really sucks!
I know what you mean about loving them more every day...I'm sooo in love too
Well that's it, looks like Lily is down for the night...must go have a shower and go to bed- make the most of it!
Danni, wow that's great. Not only sleeping for 10hrs but then until 9am!! Charlie will not sleep past 7am, no matter what time he goes to bed, some days he's up by 6.30 (like today!!!) usually after his 5.30 feed I get back into bed, get comfy & i'm getting out again, frustrating.
I'm really trying to push him out to 4hr feeds, thinking that may make a difference at night with sleeping longer, perhaps. He's still drinking little very frequently, not sure how its going to go, this morning he was hungry half hour before his feed was due so not sure how I'll get him to go past an hr. One step at a time, think I'll stretch it bit by bit each day. We've gone a bit backwards with night time sleeps at the moment, just when you think it's working everything changes. Sometimes in this cold weather I think even just the pj's i put him in make a difference.
As for dummies, I was given several as presents & thought I'd try a new one a couple days ago. It was a real hit, he could keep it in much better than the one he has now. Then I realised he could keep it in so well that each time he lost it he was waking up - have since taken that dummy away & gone back to the old one. I prefer he just us it for comfort then spit it out.
We are well, we went to visit my work (childcare centre) today, it was lovely to see everyone. My kids (as I call them!!) are all getting sooo big! It's only been about 4 months since I saw them all and they are so grown up. It was great to see everyone and the kids were so excited to see Lily now that she out of my tummy!! LOL! We then walked home- about 45min walk and Lily slept all the way home only waking when we stopped, hehe. I miss being at work but don't want to go back, does that make sense???
She's slept pretty well today, still not longer than 45 mins but she's had 3 sleeps so far. We had a huge sleep together yesterday, she slept with me in bed from about 2-4pm! Every now and then I need a huge day sleep to catch up I think! I try not to sleep in the day time too often and don't usually need it but once in a while.... That just prooves that she can do it and I think she needs it, but she just can't seem to settle herself and stay aseep. It did put her sleeps out of whack at night too, with her waking at 2.30 then 6.00. She did go back to sleep with me until 8am but in our bed...
Danni, lucky you with Masons big sleep. Maybe it was the blankets, I know I feel cosier and sleep well when I have my heavy doona and blankies on me!!
I was wondering too, if you don't mind... are you still on motilium? How much do you take a day? How long do you think you'll be on it? And how expensive is it for how much? I ask because I am taking it now, 10mg 3time a day. It still doesn't seem to be enough as Lil still needs a top up bottle (about 80-100ml each) by about 3-4pm onwards or she's really unsettled and hungry. I can't really afford to get a breast pump, even to hire one to try to increase my supply, I do have a manual one I use about 2 time a day for 5mins each bb, though it's a bit hard on my nipples iykwim?! I have read on some threads here that some people are on it long term, which I don't mind, but my dr. is being difficult...I practically had to beg for this prescription and she told me to try to go off it slowly, which I know will jsut have the same results as before when I did it. I'm paying about $12.25 for 25 tablets.
Erin, Lily will suck on any dummy you put into her mouth!! Hehehe... We have 4 different types I give her only one type, but DH gives her any of them, she seems happy enough to suck on any of them! She's not too fond of them anyway, and usually spits it out if I give it to her at times other than sleeptime (even spits it then sometimes), much preferring her fist instead! I hope your theory works for Charlie's sleeps!
hey darl, shop around with different chemists. Each chemist charge a different "dispensing fee" so you can find it cheaper. I pay $9.60 for 25 but I managed to get a special script through my gp allowing me to get 50.
I have to be on it long term. I take one tablet twice a day. Morning and night.
Try expressing more often during the day. I only use a manual one as well.
We've been so busy here, I haven't been online for over two weeks and it's been even longer since I've been to BellyBelly!
It's amazing to 'feel' the change in here from when I was last here. You all seem to be much happier - maybe it's because we're all feeling more confident as mum's now.
Melissa, we have a Ben-led routine here too. Just the past few nights he's started to manage two long sleeps at night with a feed around 1-3am which is brilliant. It makes for a much happier mummy, even if it does mean a wide-awake Ben for most of the day.
Kristie, I can't believe your mum doesn't even play with the boys when she's over! My mum can't get enough of Ben and hardly puts him down, but if she does, she does the washing up or ironing or something. I still think you are super-mum for doing all that you do with your two little boys to take care of!
Kel, I can kinda relate to you missing, but not missing work. I've already had three of my colleagues quit since I left, and I'm missing the social aspect. Totally NOT missing the travelling of 3+ hours a day!
Danni, WOW on Mason's long sleeps! That's fantastic. You must feel like a new woman with all that wonderful sleep. I vaguely remember what it was like to get more than six hours sleep a night!
Jen, that's great that Beau is getting the hang of bfing. I'm not up to date on the problems you have had, but I remember you were having some trouble at the very beginning. I love bfing and am so glad that Ben likes it too. He's just recently made it difficult though - he detaches and decides to have a chat whenever I make eye contact with him! Cheeky boy!
Ben is doing great. He's put on over 2.5kgs since birth and tonight he rolled from his tummy to his back for the first time We had an occupational therapist visit our mothers' group today and when she saw him on his tummy she said he'd be rolling over really soon, but I'm guessing she didn't think it would be as soon as it was! LOL
I'll try to get in here more frequently, I miss it here!
Hi Girls,
Hope you are all doing well. Yesterday I got a new bath for Olivia, its green with elmo on the side. She was getting too long for the one under the change table, hopefully this one will last a little while longer! We went to physio yesterday to have the harness adjusted and the physio looked at her head. We just have to approach her from the right side to encourage her to look that way coz she favours the left. Also have to do tummy time 3 times a day. I must say I am a bit slack in that area and have used the harness as an excuse, but after seeing her do it yesterday, I know she can do it. Hopefully in about 1 month of doing all this, her head will be round again!
Shes been sleeping better, getting up around 2 for a feed then at about 630 and then finally around 930am. So I am much more happier... except this week coz AF is coming One thing I didnt miss... so I had a real good cry yesterday and cracked a wobberly all at the same time!!!
Anyway, got to ring up ticketek and see whats happening with the Crowded House tickets... it says they are all sold out....ggrrr they are supposed to be on sale tomorrow.
Have a geat day
Love Melissa
Sorry I've been missing for a couple of days! Been busy...visited a friend with a 6w old -it's amazing how quickly our bubbas change. Can you believe our's are either 3 months or fast approaching!! Wow!! Also finally got my brothers old dishwasher so luckily dh had the day off yesterday and got it working!!! Woohoo! I hate doing dishes and ours has been broken for a couple of months!
Today I took the boys to see New Mcdonalds farm - Louis loved it and luckily Dylan sat quietly and had a snooze! Had a scary moment when I lost Louis for about 5 mins..OMG - The scariest time of my life - Cindy and I were looking around but he'd climbed up all these steps (it was on a basketball crt..) and was playing with kids up there. Luckily a mum saw Cindy looking and brought him down...we're going to the wiggles in Dec so I'll be getting Dylan babysat so I can run around after Louis...
Dylans going along well! The last couple of days I've been able to resettle him and get him to at least have one longer sleep in the day so hopefully we're getting somewhere. All he wants to do at the moment is chew on his hands - I swear he nearly fits his whole hand in his mouth! LOL! I'm pretty sure he's not really anwhere near rolling yet but he loves to sit and stand up all the time opposed to just lying down..I think it has something to do with his poor tummy though - he's such a chucky baby I think it's easier for him to be upright.
Melissa - I don't have that great a routine...I mainly go with the flow as it changes everyday!!! Dylans got cradle cap...I've been trying cream, bicarb soda, vaseline - it's not getting worse but it's not great yet...Sounds like a good idea getting a bigger bath. We bath Dylan in the big bath now...we just have one of those towelling things to lie him on...I'm sure her head will be fine...Louis had it fairly bad - it took a while but it all came good...especially as he was sitting up from about 4 months...
Erin - Dylan wakes through the night when he's unwrapped as well...I think his little arms get cold!
JenSam - Good to hear from you - Glad you and Beau are going well!
Kellie - Glad your going well - sounds like a nice big walk you had!!
Disgirl - Good to hear from you!! Wow at Ben rolling already - What a great weight gain!
Danni - Yes - I'm fine!! Thanks for thinking of me!!
What time are you babies going down for their big sleep?? Dylan doesn't want to got to sleep before about 9 or 10pm it seems...he's very unsettled before then and we're better off just putting him in the bouncer watching t.v it seems...
Hey Kristie - Charlie normally naps in the arvo til about 4 or 5pm & I can't keep him awake long enough to see DH when he gets home from work. Every night like clockwork he's in bed fast asleep from 6.30pm til around 1 or 2am when he wakes for a feed. Not sure how he got into that routine, but it's great for us we get to enjoy dinner together & have a good chat too
Disgirl, I say wow on the rolling too, that's great.
