Well we had a good night after we finally managed to get little miss cranky pants to sleep. Only one wake up at 1, although she was awake for an hour at this wake up, grrr... then up at 6.20, though she went back to sleep with me til about 8.20, so a good night really.
She has been really clingy and sooky and after all of this talk about teething (which hadn't occured to me, duh!!) I looked in her mouth and her gums are red and swollen, in the same place as you said christy, where her fangs are....so it must be relatively common!! I asked my mum if it can happen and she said it's called cutting on the cross, where they get the fangs before the front teeth...that'll look so funny!! Hehehe I sent DH out to get some nurofen and bonjela at 8.00 cause she just wouldn't settle. After some nurofen, she dropped like a fly!
Anyway, the princess is calling me...bye!

Kaz - Have fun at your mothers groups. We're heading off to a play centre as dh has the day off and thought it would be nice!
Danni - Bugger on the early wake ups...Dylan was up at 6.45am this morning - thats probably the earliest it's been for us!
But! I pushed him through the night - I dream fed him at 10.45 and then fed him again at 6.45am!! Woohoo. He went down in the cot after the dream feed and luckily Louis slept through him waking up a million times. I pretty much have to get up to him every hour or so...grrr! I just don't breed good sleepers - LOL! then around 4am I brought him in with me and stretched him to his morning feed..he's back asleep now - he woke after 45min but luckily resettled!
Kel - Wow on the one wake up - I'm sooo jealous!! Bugger it was for an hour though! Geez - thats full on with the red gums already - Don't be surprised if they don't pop through though...maybe just moving around...Louis still doesn't have those teeth through - LOL!!
I just raised my voice at Lily... I'm so angry and ashamed at myself. She just won't sleep anywhere but on me and I need to do things. I've been trying to get her to bed for 2 1/2hrs now and everytime she's asleep and I put her down her eyes open and she either grins at me or screams. I gave her a bath to try to relax her and she fell asleep right after it but woke as soon as I put her down so I yelled at her. I've been crying since. She is asleep now but she cried herself to sleep in my arms. I feel so horrible.
Well we had a terrible night & today's not much better. After only drinking approx 300ml all day yesterday we were up & down every couple hours. Today he's drank heaps more but has had 2 very runny diapers & won't settle to sleep. Not sure whats going on, we did go to someone's house & there little boy had gastro....thinking it could be that. Oh why now - we are meant to be driving to Perth tomorrow night (11hr drive!!!) but can't with a sick bub.
Kellie don't be ashamed, I'll admit I've done it also and you will feel terrible but we all have days we can't handle. No one said this was meant to be easy, though I really wish it was!!!
To all of you with no night wakings or only once well done!!! You must feel great, Charlie used to sleep 9hrs but has been so off lately. Even now he's just in his cot making noises hasn't really slept all day!!! Usually he's had 2 morn naps & down for the arvo.
Can you get Nurofen for bubs under 6months??? The chemist here sold me for 6months on the other day, didn't have anything else to choose from - so haven't used it.
Hi,
Have just been reading your thread and was wondering if you don't mind if I pop in and have a chat too! I'm Brenda and we had our first baby on 26th April (DS - Declan) and I can totally sympathise with those of you who seem to be going through a trying week! I'm not sure if its a 12week thing or what but DS is definitely proving to be a bit of hard work this week!! Anyway, I won't go on too much, was mainly wanting to say hi...hope you all don't mind. Its really reassuring to know that other Mums are going through similar things though! (Let me know if there's any probs with me crashing your thread!)
Kel - Big hugs!!! Don't feel bad - we all do it sometimes...it's just out of tiredness and frustration!! Trust me - It will happen again! We're only human and these little bubbas can be soooo demanding - we're also 3 months in to sleep deprivation so you're bound to snap sometimes!!!
Caro - Wow at getting stuff imported from the usa...! I've never even bought bonjela!! We're very lucky that we never had any troubles with Louis getting teeth - probably cos he got them soo late!
Erin - awww poor little munchkin - hopefully he's on the mend...Hope you're trip goes ahead though - you sound like you've been looking forward to it heaps! Drive safely if you do go!!
I'm pretty sure you can't get nurofen for kids that young?? I've never bought it...we just use the baby panadol if needs be...
Brenda - Welcome and congrats on your little man!!! They definitely do seem out of sorts at the moment!! Of course there's no problems joining in! We all love a good chatter!
Hope you all have great weekends planned - chat later!
AAAHGHHH!!! Just typed out a huge post and my Mum's computer has eaten it......can't be bothered doing the whole thing again.
Kel- Bug love and Hugs x x some days it all gets too much and I know what it's like when they just won't sleep. Wake up in the morning with smiles and cuddles and don't linger on it. You are only human but you're also a wonderful Mummy and Lily knows that best of all x x
Erin- I hope Charlie is feeling better and feeding better too and that you don't have to delay your trip. Is he still having lots of wet nappies?
Welcome aboard babyno1. We are a friendly bunch and it's agreat place to chat, vent or just make sure that you are not totally insane!
Everyone else, good sleep vibe coming out to you and your bubbas x x and have a smashing weekend on and all
Well so far we are having the worst night on record, he hasn't settled at all. Ahhhh we've got a long drive ahead (if we go) Oh I hope we don't have to delay the trip!!!! He drank heaps more today, but had a couple really runny no. 2's, still got plenty of wet nappies. Usually by 7pm I pop him into bed after a bath & we don't hear from him for at least 6hrs. Oh I don't know whats going on with my bubs, I"m tearing my hair out. We've tried panadol, doesn't seem to make a difference - he feels hot but not running a temp. I feel terrible, I actually just told DH I wish we'd never had a baby!!! I swear he know's we've got a big trip planned & it's throwing a spanner in the works. We changed formula a week ago & things were going fine, now I'm thinking about changing back again. Oh well enough of my troubles.
Erin - big hugs!!! I promise things will get easier!! I hope you're on your way to Perth as I'm typing and that Charlie sleeps for most of it!!!
We had a pretty good night...Dylan slept from 7pm - after a few resettlings - and then I dream fed him, then he needed resettling at 1.30 and then 4am I brought him into bed with me and fed him just after 6am! I think at 4 he woke though because he's been sleeping with his arms out and his poor little hands were frozen!!! I quickly got som socks but he was probably already to uncomfortable...must remember that tonight!
I can't believe the boys are sleeping really well together - what a relief!!!
*hugs* to Kellie and Erin. Don't forget to get som "you" time if you can, even just for an hour after your DH comes home. Go for a walk, have a bath, phone a friend.
Well today we're buying the teething stuff, been lucky so far. Yesterday was huge day for him. Didn't make it to the mothers' group but went to Borders to order my Harry Potter (with the free owl!) and then to the physio for my back. He cried during that, despite his nice new nappy & full tummy. The receptionist took him to her desk and he just sat there watching everyone - must have just been bored?
Then to work where I showed him off (he slept) and then a feed and to the pub for another while and another feed. Home @ 10:30 and he then slept thru until 11am this morning, well, had a few wakes / cries during the night but he self-settled and now all good.
He's very cheeky and smiling at everyone, having a chat. Little charmer!
Kristie - I've had him in mittens for the past few days, its been freeeeezing!
Erin - good trip and sleeping vibes. I asked the doc about nurofen for the bubs, he said it was OK but to try panadol first. another trick is to alternate between nurofen & panadol. If its say, 8 hours between doses for both, then stagger them. Like 8am - panadol, 12 midday - nurofen, 4pm - panadol, 8pm nurofen, midnight panadol, 4am nurofen etc. You get the idea They work in different ways so you don't overdose but get the good pain relief all the way though. I'd still be double checking with the pharmacist though!
Caro - sounds like you're so organised! Will check out the teething stuff today good & proper.
I am feeling much better now, thanks for all the hugs and reassurance! I know that things like that will happen and Lily won't remember it, but I guess it was the first time and I was so upset at myself. Poor bubbs just needed to sleep and me yelling did nothing but upset her more! She ended up sleeping for about 4 hrs after I resettled her a few times, I actually had to wake her at 5.30 or she wouldn't go down for the night.
When DH came home, I told him what I did and he said 'don't yell at her she doesn't know what she's doing' (making fun and mimicking me) cause that's what I try to tell him whenever he gets frustrated with her and I burst into tears and sobbed for ages!! That'll teach him to mess with a sleep deprived, overly emotional, pms suffering, new mother! HEHE. Now I look back it was kinda funny.....the look on his face, him trying to make it better and back pedal, hehe!! Anyway...I'm good now.
I have the house to myself for a few hours. DH and I went to babies galore to see what we could see for Lil for chrissy (nothing!!) and then went to Parklea markets (a big weekend market place in Sydney- and still we brought nothing!)
Now Lily and Dh are at my mums as she is going to make dinner for us and DH is going to watch soccer and footy on her big screen, foxtel-recieving tv. So I told him I'd leave Lily with him and come home to clean up our pigsty... oh sorry house . So here I am on Bellybelly, LOL! I have a load of washing on....and I'm pumping milk for Lil, that counts!!
At the markets I did one of those chiropractic check things, where they have the strings and stuff to measure if your back is aligned. I have never done it before, but DH has always nagged me to get it done, so today I did. The lady said that mine is one of the worst backs she ever seen! My right shoulder slopes down to meet my left hip which goes up, and I carry 10kgs more weight on my left side than my right, eeeekkkkk!!! No wonder I get such bad upper and lower back and shoulder pain! I think I might need to go to a chiro or physio!!
Caro, I hope you're feeling better these days. How was the Fairies? I hope you were well enough to go and have fun with your big girl!
We have been using the bonjela and nurofen for Lily's teething- she's only had it once, but it seemed to work well, though we used them at the same time, so maybe it was just the nurofen working??... And she really hates the aniseed taste of the bonjela, her facial expressions when I put it on were hilarious! So I will keep you in mind for the other stuff if her teething gets too bad, Thanks .
Erin you poor chook, your having a bit of a tough time huh? I hope Charlie feels better soon and gets back on track. If it makes you feel any better, I have thought 'What the f@#$ have we done to ourselves' a few times too, in regards to having a baby. But I think it will get easier, it already has since we first brought her home and it is getting easier by the week as we figure each other out a bit more. And I enjoy it alot more than not now too!
Yes you can get nurofen (ibuprofen is the actual drug in it) for bubs under 6mths- it's for 3-6mths and I got some for Lily's teething. The pharmisist told me it is best for pain, and panadol (paracetomol) is best for fever, so I have some of both just in case.
Kristie, Thats great the boys are working well together in their room, it's something I've been thinking of for when we have our next bubba...
I put mittens or socks on Lily's hands every night because she sleeps flat on her back, with her hands up next to her head, (soo cute) and ends up with icecube hands too. Not good on warm boobies first thing in the morn!
Brenda, welcome to the thread! Congratulations to you on your bubba. Come in, sit down, relax.......!!
Kaz, wow , you did have a big day yesterday! Lucky Patrick was so good. It makes you so proud when all they do is smile and charm people when your out doesn't it?
Ok the washing is finished. I really should go and start cleaning...oh joy!
Thanks for the lovely welcome from everyone. What a great bunch of women you are! It's really interesting to hear about everyone's babies and their behaviours.
Zayd's daytime naps have become a bit of a nightmare. I think 45 mins at most! He sleeps like a log at night, waking once at most in 12 hours, and sometimes sleeping all the way through. I dunno if I should just count my blessings that he's a good night sleeper and just accept bad day naps or what. My MCH nurse actually TOLD me to 'leave him to cry' at 2 months of age because 'studies have shown they can be manipulative at this age'. Manipulative at 2 months?!!? WTH?? Well, I don't agree with that, anyway. So I ignored her 'advice' and won't be leaving him to cry anytime in the near future. Now I dread all my future visits with her. Just seems like such a strange mentality to have in someone in her profession, but I guess I'm being slightly judgmental (okay, a lot, LOL). But what do you guys think about Zayd's day naps? Any suggestions, tips, reassurances (hahha)?
Christy- sounds like you had a lovely day. Treasure them! Also, re: the 5 year old girl you may be caring for- I think it could work out really well for you with your baby. My daughter is 4 and loves being my 'helper' with our bub, and spends quite a bit of time talking to him and dancing to entertain him, which gives me a bit of a break (to wash the dishes or fold laundry, LOL. Not much of a break!), and my baby loves to watch her. Kids just love other kids. It's amazing.
Erin, hope your little guy is feeding well again. I guess they're just like us, and have days when they want to eat a lot, and others when they don't. Target toy sale sounds good- are the discounts really worth it? Cos I'll have to drag two little ones around with me, so only want to go if the bargains are really worth it
Better dash- both the kids are in bed and need to do all the stuff I didn't get done today cos I was trying to amuse a cranky baby! And seriously, thanks again for letting me come on board. This is fun!
it takes me SO freaking long to write a post as i'm interrupted 30 times by the little munchkins that between the start of my post and sending it, about 19 other posts from you guys appeared, which i realise it now looks like i've just rudely ignored, so wanted to add:
Kellie, we've all been there. babies, cute as they are, can be incredibly frustrating, and getting annoyed, and even yelling, is completely understandable. so don't beat your self up- it's not like you whacked her or anything. combine your own exhaustion and totally reasonable anxiety about a baby who doesn't want to sleep, and your reaction is totally normal. just let it slide, remember tomorrow is another day, and the fact that you even feel bad for yelling at her showns what a great mum you are.
erin, hope things are better with your little one. it must be so stressful for you planning the trip and then to have this on top of it must be horrible. you poor thing. i really hope it all settles down for you asap. And i hope even more so that neither you or hubby get what he's got! look after yourself.
babyno1- welcome on board! i just joined a couple fo days ago, so i feel a bit cheeky welcoming you when i'm such a newbie myself. but i must say that all the women here are super-cool and lovely. so enjoy!
okay, i better post this now before anyone else posts and i look worse for 'ignoring' them too- apologies if i didn't mention your post.
We are so very quiet in here for the past few days, we must all be busy!!
Well, I actually have a few minutes to myself, Lily is having a brilliant day sleep for a change. She's decided sleep is good for now . She's been asleep for a little over an hour now. I have managed to do three loads of washing, wash the dishes and do a general tidy up, after my big clean up the other day, my house looks like it did pre baby...wooohoo, for a few minutes anyway!
I also get to eat lunch in peace, not snatching bite between entertaining Lil. Mind you it's only a cup a soup and crackers, but hey!! That's because I weighed myself the other day and I have put on three kgs . So I am now heavier than the week after I had Lily! Probably because I'm not doing any exercise other than look after Lily (not that that's not much...) but much of that is sitting on the lounge feeding her! So I have gotta get off my ever expanding butt starting today!! And stop eating so much....I hadn't really realised it but DH pointed it out to me the other day when I managed to eat a whole burger from this place we eat at regularly when before I was lucky to eat 2/3 of one...
Ok the little lady is waking...knew it couldn't last too long, so much for a peacful lunch!!
Kel- Hooray for day time sleeps! "They" do say that babies start to settle down in the day at about this age, hope it contnues for you. I picked up the battery operated swing that I bought on ebay on the weekend and it is a god send. She actually goes to sleep in it and I have 40 mins to myself!! Yay! I actually love it when she sleeps on me but you don't get much done IYKWIM!!
Little Miss Hazel slept from 7pm to 3.45am last night! That's nearly nine hours straight! Lets hope she does it again tonight!
Had a great weekend and a great Monday as our new sofas were finally delivered. We've been waiting for them for 9 weeks and have only had some crappy old ones from Mum's that are now destined for the tip. Hooray, what luxury to be able to stretch out on a comfy sofa.
Hope you are all well and bubbas are happy campers x
