Noni - Do you have any midwife baby clinics around you? They are good with helping with BF or any concerns you have and can point you to other professionals as well. Sorry to hear that its not working out the way you would like, your doing a great job
Megsmum - welcome, what a quick labour, sorry dh missed it. I miss my DD1 when shes at kindy too, but agree its great to stop the whirl wind lol
Tk - yayayaya for caitlyn comming home thats great news heres heaps of *putting on weight vibes*
Saffi - i agree with the weather up here has been HORRIBLE! I hate the heat, so if this is a sign of things to come then i'm going into hyperbination...
Miss Eloise has started to stir so I am going to stop doing personals, sorry to everyone that i have forgotten hope you and your gorgeous babies are well!
Well we went to our baby clinic again today, and miss Eloise has put on another 360g!!! YAY! she now weighs 3830g! Midwife is very happy. She is such a good feeder. We have our witching hour right on dinner time every night (hehe she obviously dont want me to eat dinner lol) and it takes a while to settle her.
Rhia - How is Daniel's constipation going? All better?
Megsmum - Wow what a quick birth!! Sorry to hear your DH missed it though.
Nonie - Sorry to hear breastfeeding isn't going so well for you.
TK - That's fantastic news about Caitlin coming home!! Is it all going? Peter had a clicky hip too, hope Caitlin's is resolved.
Misty - How did Baz's circumcision go? Hearing you on the poos!! Peter poos at least once every feed & he feeds about every 2 hours.
Saffi - I'm going to sound like a dumb bum here but please tell me what tired signs I should be looking for? Peter is my first & I never get a chance to look up anything in my baby books!!
AFM Peter is not even 3 weeks old & has somehow caught a cold!! I feel so guilty, like it's my fault he's gotten sick. We've been using the saline drops in his nose & sucking the mucus out with the aspirator that comes with it. It's been really scary as he seems to just about choke on the mucus when he is laying in his bed. I've hardly slept the last few nights as I've been so worried about the choking. He's still feeding every 2 hours at the most too & I'm soooo tired. He seems to be better today though.
just a quick post while I can!
CM- thats no good that Peter has caught a cold. I have a sore throat at the moment and I really hope Daniel doesnt get it! He is pooing a few times a day now, we did change the formula but my have to change again because it looks like he is getting stomach pains or something and he is really unsettled! He is on an iron enriched formula so might get a normal one.
Saffi- Im also interested in the tired signs, maybe thats why he is unsettled, because Im not picking up on them
Well I got to go and cook dinner hope all mummies and bubbies are going well
Oh hello! this is where everyone went eh? i'm not sure if i should post in the later thread seeing as dd arrived on the 20th but i miss all my pregnancy buddies too
will read back on the thread to see what i've missed.......
Noni - how are you going with breastfeeding? As the others have said you need to do what is right for you both. Are you able to see a LC at the hospital or can your ECHN put you in contact with one who won't need upfront payment?
Saffi - yay for remembering those tired signs. I can only imagine that somethings get forgotten along the way as you learnt new things with DS... it is easy to forget the things from newborn stage.
Megsmum - thank you. The hardest part was when I was still in hospital (ironically) because I wouldn't want to be in my room... but I couldn't sit up at the SCN 24 hours a day... though I wanted to LOL. The nurses were good at making me look after myself as well which I am thankful for. But when I was back in my room it was hard to hear the other babies with their mums. GL with Emma's clicky hip. When Caitlin had her ECHN checkup the nurse said she didn't think the hip was clicky but to get the US anyway. Time will tell I suppose.
Cass - Caitlin is the same with feeding when I am trying to eat. DP was good the other night and settled her whilst I quickly ate dinner (cold LOL)
Cheezel - all going well. I think Caitlin may have a cold at the moment... not 100% sure but I am making sure to keep the fluids up to her... she isn't always hungry but I pop her on the boob as soon as she looks at me LOL. Hope he is better now.
RhiaMaree - has the formula change been better for Daniel?
Koru - I will be doing a similar thing to you... DD arrived very early so I am in a different group to my belly buddies. I will be posting in this group and the group my buddies are in... hope no one minds!
AFM - Caitlin is a good baby - she sleeps lots and is fairly easy to settle. I keep waiting for the 'change' but it hasn't happened just yet. Breastfeeding is going well... she has tried to suck on DP when she is hungry and he is having cuddles LOL it is too cute. DD is asleep now and I have been getting stuff done around the house. Caitlin put on weight at the ECHN check up last Thursday... she is 5grams above birthweight so she weighed 2410 and had but on 50 grams since being discharged from hospital on the Monday. The nurse wants to weigh her weekly for the moment so we are going to clinic again this Thursday... ok best be off to get the washing out before DD wakes for her next feed
hey,
well bfeeding didnt end up happening.. we sought lots of advice from aba and an lc and my gp but were sticking with formula.. the gp was concerned about us ever considering reducing his formula for bfeeding because hes still not back in the 50th percentile which is what he was born into.. hes doing well on the formula tho he put on 600g in a week and a half so im very happy.. he also recently developed thrush in his mouth so since treating that hes a much easier baby.. i can even put him down sometimes haha what a novelty!!
hope everyones doing well
I have been MIA because we have been so busy anround here lately, and then DH got really sick over the weekend. He goes back to work on wednesday, hopefully the kids decide to behave for me. It has been good having him home to help out.
Baz's circumcision went well and without incident. he weighed in at 3.67kg on wednesday. He is a happy little baby, smiling all the time. He has even laughed twice now - although he startled himself both times when he did, like he was wasn't expecting the sound and didn't know what it was.
I think I may have a prolapse. I am not sure if I should try and see a dr about it ASAP, or if it can wait until my six week check up though. I would prefer to wait, seeing as I am already booked in to be checked out then anyway.
Koru - of course you can join us here! How is everything going?
Noni - Hope everything is going well and that you are happy regardless whether you are b/f or bottle feeding.
Cheezel monster - hope bubs is feeling better. Don't feel bad - you really cann't control when kids get sick. My DD caught her first cold (from me) when she was three or four weeks old. It wasn't fun.
Hello everyone else - sorry gotta stop typing and feed bubs on the other side now (and I cann't type left handed).
Hiya,
I'm going to start a general thread on this - I'm sure it's been asked a million times already too - but thought I'd check in with you 'experienced' gals in here first:
How do you settle an 'over-tired' baby? It's all very well saying 'oh she's over tired' but how the heck do you settle her when all the normal things (bath, walking in arms or in a sling, rocking chair, offering a breast....) don't seem to do anything? Well fed, clean nappy and burped so I can eliminate those causes too.
Orla sleeps all arvo then is alert and lively in the evening meaning she doesn't settle at night and ends up fussing and crying for hours
Other than that she's thriving - will be weighed again today but she certainly looks fatter and bigger, feeds well (and often!) and is generally a delight (except at night!)
Koru - That could be her arsnic hour??? Which is developmental stage that babies go to at around 4-6wks... This is where nothing will settle them they just need to let out a cry and after an hour or to back to their happy selves...The only other thing i could suggest would be trying all the things you already are... So that doesn't help. sorry.
Misty - My DF goes back to work today, I'm hoping my kids behave too lol... Glad to hear Baz circumsition went great. I would go see doc now hun...
Noni - your doing what is best for you an bubs which is the main thing U did a great job trying hun...
TK - hope caitlin didn't end up having a cold...
Cheezel its not your fault peter caught a cold hun... I hope hes got heaps better.
AFM - Eloise put on weight again yesterday - 290g, she know weighs 4120g! She was also diagnosed with silent reflux and she is now on Zoton granules to help. she is my little screamer, ill scream for hours because of the reflux, she on't lay flat. the only ay i can get her to sleep is in mine or Df arms and she co sleeps ith us at night. i can hardly put her don so now DF has gone bk to work this is going to be a challange holding her 24/7 and dealing with my other three kids getting them off to school etc... I can see we're going to have some late days...
On that note, I really shold go get ready... the screaming has started...
Cass blob - sorry to hear about the reflux. My DD had that as a bub and it made her (and subsequently everyone else) miserable. I am alittle concerned that Baz may have reflux, he is very perky and not happy about it, but so far not nearly as unsettled as DD was.
Koru - I could tell you all the tips for settling an unsettled bub, but the truth is I am not sure how helpfull they will be. sometimes a baby just will not settle no matter what.
Been lurking and meaning to post but by the time I get to it baby cries etc. You know how it is... Anyway
Sorry to hear that there are bubs with colds. I don't think it will be long before Immi gets one as DS is in daycare and constantly has a runny nose.
Cass - sorry to hear that bubs has reflux. Great weight gain tho, you must have been feeding her heaps despite the reflux. Noni - great that you have made the decision to FF full time. I think I'm getting to that point myself. Misty - my DH goes back to work on Monday. I'm lucky that DS is in daycare 4 days a week so it will be just me and the baby at home. I take my hat off to anyone with a baby and kids/toddlers at home. I'd go to the Dr sooner rather than later.
Hi to everyone else.
Got the MCHN coming to the house tomorrow for Immi's 4 week checkup. She put on nearly 300gr last week so I am hopeful that hweight gain this week will be just as good.
Can't believe my little girl is a month old already!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions re settling. I have come to the conclusion that Orla is just a normal baby and it's one of those things we have to live through Will try out some of the tips and see how we go....
Cass and Misty - sorry to hear about the reflux - that must be 10 times worse than a generally unsettled baby!
Have been too busy or shall i say too tired to get around to posting.
DS2 is 4 weeks old today and is piling on the weight, has put on 1 kg, and has grown 4.5cms since birth.
He has just finally started to settle more, as he has had a few wind issues the first few weeks, I altered my diet and changed my feeding position and it has made a huge difference! DS2 does still get a bit upset when doing a bowel movement, and he does these frequently! However as time progresses the scale of distress has decreased, thank goodness!
Koru- Sounds like orla is indeed a normal baby, I bet in a few weeks she will be much more settled.
Cass- Sorry to hear that Eloise has silent reflux, my BF's bub had that and it was a very distressing time for her. Hope the zantec works quickly, it did the trick with her bub. However she had months her bub screaming before someone actually diagnosed the problem. Her bub was a changed bub pretty much immediately.
Hi to everyone else, gotta go get dinner ready before bub wakes....
Hi All, I just sat down to write a nice post but my precious girl has just woken But was excited that I finally created a new ticker Hope everyone's bubs are settling into their family lives. Will be back to post properly later.
I am babysitting my nephew this weekend while my sister moves house from newcastle to canberra. It will be interesting, because as much as I love him, he can be a little brat. He is nearly 4, and lets just say that he's mother is much more 'easy-going' then I am when it comes to having rules and sharing. He already thinks I am the mean aunty, but at least that means he is more likely to listen to me then he does to others. And Jelly and Nate are loving having him here.
Baz is going well, but he isn't getting much sleep during the day. It is so noisy here with the other kids, that whenever I get him to sleep he gets woken up again. And of course he doesn't seem to sleep for very long if I try and put him down in his cradle or the snuggle bed - he wants to be held.
Noni - a happy baby and a happy mummy are what matters - regardless of how they are fed . Hope the thrush has cleared up.
Misty - Hope DH is better now. Glad to hear the circ went well... we did not know if we were having a boy or girl so I had sussed out what I would need to do for a circ if it were needed... then we had a girl and all my research is tucked away for when/if we have a boy. Have you seen the doctor yet re possible prolapse or are you holding out until your 6 week check up? LOL I am the same re handed typing... if I am feeding on the right and have to use left hand to type it gets much much slower LOL or I get frustrated as I much much much prefer typing with both hands so am looking into feeding her in the sling to see if I can get some use out of both hands at the same time! Hope the weekend isn't too bad for you
Koru - hope Orla is settling better for you
Cass - she didn't end up with a cold seems it is just the way she breathes when she is on the boob! Yay for weight gain. Hope the silent reflux is better/managed now and the meds are helping.
Saffi - the time goes so quickly doesn't it. Hope the check up went well.
Salboo - that is great growth for DS2!
Ellee05 - what date was your DD born and I will add your details to the list on the first page. It is nice changing over your ticker isn't it!
AFM - had our weekly weigh in at the clinic and DD put on 160g in the week she now weighs 2570g! DP and I are having some hilarious moments as first time parents and thankfully we have been able to laugh through them all! Not much else happening - feeding, sleeping, changing nappy, feed, sleep , nappy, feed, sleep, nappy... that seems to be my life at the moment (but I wouldn't have it any other way!)
tk - I have decided to wait to talk to my dr about the prolapse. I have been reseaching it and I am pretty certain i have a moderate/severe uterine prolapse, either way it appears that I cann't really make it any worse if i wait a couple of weeks - the damage has already been done
I am concerned that I may need surgery, but there are other options I can try first after I do see my dr. Truth is my biggest worry is in regard to DTD and potientially having more kids.
Misty - crapola... sorry to hear that - but am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that it is not a prolapse I really have no idea what else it could be but fingers are still firmly crossed for you
