Hey all, it's been forever since I posted but have been reading and keeping up.
We've had a rough few weeks, DS got sick and we went back to hospital for 3 days and now we're thinking he may also have reflux. Going to start him on a thickner today and see if that helps.
Misty - oh I'm hearing you!! I had the exact same day yesterday and there were lots of tears (from mummy!).
Sorry I haven't been able to post more but it's hard with an unsettled bub and a 20mo who's fond of a tantrum
tk - I just wanted to give you my take on things as someone who had a SCN baby first time around and had some troubles BFing, feel free to ignore it or take it on board as you wish Take Caitlin's weight as whichever is more favourable to what you want to do, many ECHN's are very cautious with weight gains and will recommend comping with formula at the drop of a hat. If that is not what you want to do, go with whatever weight is best This is just my experience, but I got better advice from my paed who was very pro BFing and encouraged me to continue exclusively when the nurses were telling me I needed to be comping. I really wanted to exclusively feed her and regret still that I listened to some of the more dodgy nurses. I know its easy for me to say now when every thing has gone smoothly feeding the second time around too, so like I said feel free to ignore me if you want LOL GL anyway with the next weighing, hope you don't even need to worry!
just here very quickly while Emily is feeding then she will go to DH while I actually get sumthin done today.
Emily was born by c-section on 8/8 at 6:20am weighing 8lb 7oz (3800g)
Life has been very crazy, hectic, stressful, sleepless, emotional but wonderful over the last 4 weeks. I tell you what, Im never doin this again. We've shut shop and DH got the snip a couple weeks ago. Emily is constantly crying, I think its colic, gunna go and buy some gripe water and try that, or maybe just get a bottle and try some warm water.
Breastfeeding is going good after a difficult start. I bought some nipple shields on day 5 coz I was in so much pain and they saved my life, my nipples and my breastfeeding. I didnt breastfeed my first two children so this is all new to me. Its all going well now though.
Cass - hope you were able to study for your exam. What are you studying (sorry if I have already asked you that I can't remember!)
Willow - hope DS is better now and that the thickener helps
Megsmum - thank you. I totally get where you are coming from and you sound very much like me... I am just not liking the potential fight with them when I tell them I will be keeping her on the breast. She had comp formula feeds in the SCN but only until my milk came in... it is not that I am against her having formula... I am just very passionate about her breastfeeding. I will only have a problem if the weight the paed wrote down was wrong... but it could well be that she is that weight and his scales were correct... if they are then she is going great guns but if the weight he wrote is wrong then they may take it as gospel and 'say' that she had a loss when she didn't IYKWIM.
I appreciate your advice... it is hard enough being a first time mum let alone a first time mum with the bossy SCN nurses and (sometimes pushy) ECHNs when they are dealing with premmie bubs... even though they can be just as pushy with full termers!
Welcome Megan! Congrats on your baby girl! I hope it isn't colic but it would be nice if you had an answer as to what is upsetting Emily.
AFM - we have our weekly ECHN weigh in tomorrow... I am hoping she really did put on all that weight that the paed's weight says she did... she is feeling very heavy - so either she did put on weight or I am getting weak LOL. Will update you all after the clinic visit tomorrow.
Oh, I think I have FINALLY got all the documents to Centrelink that they need... fingers crossed they don't come back with any other requests for "further information"
hi all,
just a quick pop in while DD is on the breast - one finger typing!
megan - my naturopath recommended a herbal liquid that is like gripe water only even better - it's called iberogast. you'll need to get it from a health store and it's pretty pricey but you use such tiny amounts and it seems to work a treat
tk - Definitely sounds like we feel the same about it all, I don't have anything against formula either (both my DDs have had it) but I am very pro breastfeeding and would prefer only to use formula if medically necessary. Both my 2 had it because of low blood sugars unfortunately Best of luck with the weigh in today.
MeganH - Welcome! I hope the crying settles for you soon, I know the feeling! We have had a fair bit of crying the last 2 nights now too, hopefully tonight will be better.
Willow - GL with the thickener, hope it helps.
misty - Hope you are having a better day today!
koru - Glad Orla is sleeping well at night, I hear you on the "arsenic hour"!
Rhia - Daniel is a good size bub isn't he? I reckon Emma is probably a bit more than 4kg now, haven't had her weighed for couple of weeks now - will have to check it in the next couple of weeks I guess.
Cheezel - Emma was sucking on my neck today LOL and DD1 once gave me a hickey on the chin when she sucked on it!!
Hi everyone else, sorry for no more persies E is waking up! Hope you are all well.
Megsmum - yep that is why DD had formula at first because of low blood sugars (I had GD) and then my colostrum wasn't enough for her to feed from via the tube so they were giving her the colostrum and topping off with formula until my milk came in then her tube feeds were of EBM and we built up her breast feeds whilst she was developing the suck reflex.
Well the weight with the paediatrician was correct I was shocked when we got the ECHN yesterday and she weighed her and she was 2860 - 10 grams above what she was on the Monday. I think I looked a bit too shocked because the nurse asked me if I was ok and I told her about the paed appt and how I had doubted the weight. I am just so happy!!
DD was one month old on Wednesday... um where did that month go!
Haven't been able to post much lately... the other day I got a whole post written up and the computer ate it - I was not impressed. My belly buddies have started having their babies it is so exciting but mixed emotions for me... Caitlin's EDD was yesterday and it was a weird day for me... I am so happy she is here but was sort of mourning what could have been if that makes sense.
Will come back tomorrow to do persies. I have my 6 week check up tomorrow!! Hoping to DTD tonight... such planning!! One of my belly buddies mentioned that she likes to DTD before the check up so if there is any pain she can raise it with the doctor... I thought it was a good idea... lets hope DD settles!
