Hi all, thought I'd pop in and say hello. I know I don't post often but I do pop in and keep up with how everyone is going, I just don't have time to sit and do personals so feel a bit slack for posting at all!
Saffi - Sorry to hear you're having issues with Immi sleeping, there is nothing worse! DS2 is a breeze compared to DS1 at this age so we're doing OK. He generally does one big sleep of about 3 hours in the middle of the day which is his best sleep. His morning sleep can be a bit hit and miss, anything from 1.5-2 hours (but often he needs to be resettled and if he's not back asleep at the 1.5 hour mark I get him up). His afternoon sleep was horrid, I was lucky to get an hour out of him but that seems to be improving. Because he doesn't sleep long in the late afternoon, I give him a bath around 5pm and he's in bed for the night by about 6pm. Not ideal but seems to be working for us for the moment. He then wakes any time between 11pm-1am and then again at about 3-5am. We are then up for the day at about 7-8am. His night fees are very quick, he sleeps and feeds in our room so I'm only usually up feeding him for around 15 mins (20 if he needs a nappy change etc).
If you can't pick Immi's tired signs, I'd start going by the clock. At this age babies can usually only handle an hour of awake time. So if you're not seeing tired signs at the one hour mark, I'd wrap her and put her down anyway. Most advice says that they shouldn't be awake for any more than 1.5 hours max, but we all know sometimes babies don't follow the rules! I hope things improve.
Pimples - ours got SOOOOOO bad that his skin started to get all red, inflamed and extremely dry. We took him for his vax about a week ago and the GP ended up giving us a mild cortisone cream for his face. Thankfully it has almost totally healed now. He does still have a tinge of redness and a few spots on his cheeks but nothing compared to what it was. I wanted to avoid cortisone but I was getting concerned about scarring - my niece has scars from her milk pimples as a baby.
We've had some not so great news from our u/sounds though . His hip looks OK at this stage but his head u/sound wasn't great. He appears to have extra fluid around his brain and they also saw a cyst His paed assures us that the cyst is a very common thing in babies and there's nothing we need to do about that. The fluid is a bit more of a worry and we need to monitor his head growth. We have an appt at the Children's Hospital in a few weeks to repeat the scans. Praying SOOOO hard that things have improved.
He is feeding well and sleeping reasonably well most of the time. He is self settling 95% of the time but needs to be resettled during the day sometimes which does my head in a bit! LOL.
He is HUGE and last time we had him weighed was about 3 weeks ago - he was already 6.5kg!! I have no idea how long he is now but he seems quite long to me too. He looks like a 3 month old! We're still in our 000s though, probably not for much longer!
The issues we were having with reflux seem to have settled so we think it was caused by the medication he was on (abs for an infection). I really feel for those of you dealing with reflux, it was soooo hard that week or so that we had it so I admire you all for doing such a great job!
Better go, he needs to go back to bed now. Hope all are well...
