MadB so glad your sister is safe. My aunt and brother-in-law are safe, a bit over suddenly having waterfront property though.

Myboys so glad you got some sleep! Millie was very unsettled last night too, which was annoying - went to a sleep and settling class yesterday, offered free through family health care in Parramatta, so thought I had it all figured out. Millie must have been listening and thought, "nup, shan't be doin' that." Also I told DH about a few of the suggestions and he seemed to think I was trying to force them on him - he got defensive and said he'd keep doing what he's been doing. *sigh* I think he had a bad day at work and wasn't in the mood.

Picketty, welcome back! Good to hear from you. Millie likes songs - I can't remember many nursery rhymes either so I sing songs I like from my childhood - mostly 70's stuff like Cat Stevens, Mamas & Papas, or even earlier - the Beatles. I have created a playlist of these on my iPod so we can listen to it in the car as well If she's in the mood I'll read her a story - something simple, rhythmic and repetitive is good. Lynley Dodd's stories are great, and Mem Fox as well. But usually we just sit face to face, having a chat. She's 8 weeks today so only a little older than your man. Once she starts getting fidgety and cranky we stop and I (try to) settle her.

As for us... Amelia was unsettled again this morning. I should check her nose first - she was screaming blue murder because she had a blocked nostril again. Poor little thing... a bit of Fess and she settled well. After her mid morning feed I popped her in the pram and went for a long walk to the local shops. The overcast sky should have warned me - it was sooooo humid. I had to stop in at Gloria Jeans to rehydrate (such a shame ). It was so great to get out of the house and I haven't heard a peep from Millie since we got home.

Too hot for hugs, so *iced teas* for all!

I've just had a few visitors which was a lovely break to the daily routine of late (but i love it all). Harper was a bit tempremental about being in her basinette but my friend managed to get her asleep soundly and she is now in her bed. I do feel completely different to yesterday (sleep makes such a difference), yesterday i was so tired and i had the feeling of being on the verge of tears all day.

Had words to DH (he is doing so well but we still have our moments also) about him getting grumpy at me for calling him at work. He hates me calling to say i'm struggling because it makes him feel bad but i said to him for me it's an outlet, i don't call yelling and screaming i just wanted to talk to him.

Settling in as parents be it 1, 2, 3 or 6 takes some getting used to for both mum and dad i think. I have to say i have noticed that my DH has stepped up to help around the house (without being asked ) more than he ever did when both of the boys arrived so i'm so proud of him. It's such a huge adjustment ladies, so if DH are being a little difficult i'm sure it has a lot with them trying to adjust and find their place as a father. Good luck and lots of patience to all

PP my boys love Hairy McClarey (sp??) and Mem Fox is great also. We love Where Is The Green Sheep. When Aidan was a little bubba i remember lying on the ground with him and reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt We haven't really gotten into much of a play routine yet either, but she's starting to have a little more awake time.

Ok my little miss is awake, got to go ladies.

I've also been meaning to ask MadB you're safe from the fires aren't you??

BTW - I think I prefer the number of bf poos to the stench of formula poos. Oh. My. Goodness.

Oh yes, bf poos have barely no smell at all in comparison do they??

PP - at the moment we have both poos. First out comes the FF poo then there's usually a huge fart, then the BF component comes out.

Ohhhhh ladies, please don't buy basil pesto from Leggos at the moment - it is the colour of FF poo with the pine nuts looking like the fats from the BM...

    ok Kaz, will remember that
How lucky you are getting both kinds of poo!

I've not experienced ff poo, but I've heard it's bad. I'm not looking forward to the post-solids poos - good enough reason as any to delay solids I reckon

DD has pretty much slept all day, but for short feed breaks. What will tonight hold I wonder...
Hope you all get a good night's sleep

Hi all... Thanks for your well wishes. I'm on the road to recovery. Finally! I still have a red inflamed BB but I certainly feel much better. I can't believe it's taken this long for me to recover. I don't remember it taking this long when I had it with DH. It was a severe case though. Please oh please don't let me ever get that again. I still plan to stay at home and rest today. I want to make sure I fully recover. My DH has been a god send. Doing the cooking, dishes, looking after DS, fetching things for me when I bark orders etc. I am so lucky. Mind you, the poor thing has been very stressed the past week.

PICKETY - Do you change his nappy during the night? I find if Eden keeps falling asleep, I change his nappy then pop him on the other side and he has more of a feed. Changing his nappy really wakes him up

I was going to catch up on persies but I have to attend to DS1's nappy! BBL

Kaz that's exactly what I said to Amelia this morning... "SO not gonna be having pesto any time soon..." Actually I am off all sorts of dips and condiments at the moment... pumpkin and cashew is out... pesto is out... wholegrain mustard is out... PLEASE little girl don't ruin babaganoush for me!!!

Georgi so glad to hear you're on the mend!

*whinge* Anyone else feeling a little isolated? I saw some pictures on fb yesterday of a NYE party a good friend had, and apparently invited the entire world to, except for me. I figure, even if a friend won't be able to make it to something, if you'd like them there you still invite them. I guess most of you 2nd+ time around Mums have mothers groups, playgroups etc already sorted... my local parent groups don't get back together until the end of the month. I have had contact with some friends and am getting out as much as possible, but my childless friends seem to have cut me off. I found myself striking up a conversation with the ladies in the chemist and the barista at Gloria Jeans the other day just for a little adult conversation (I'm normally quite shy around strangers). Then DH came home and after dinner found it vitally important to play some stupid game on his laptop. He was apologetic when I explained how isolated I was feeling and we had a good chat, but sheesh... *end whinge*

Mum's coming down this week *squee*!

Looks like my bbs have completely given up the ghost. Had a little bit there on Wednesday night but I offered it to Millie on Thursday and she latched on, but then just let go and looked at me quizzically. So, she got one day shy of 8 weeks. I think I did pretty well to go from comp feeding to full bf for at least a little while.

Better go get organised. Hope you're all well!

oh PP, I'm sorry about your BF, but 8 weeks is good!

With our MG it was good while I was still on leave, but when I returned to work I wasn't part of that group any more, except for one person. It's easier when you get into childcare and the community there.

Started discussing contraception with DH today - suggested he get the snip (his comment - why him? MEH!)

So glad to hear you're doing better Georgi! No more infections!!!

It can be very isolating Pixie, you're not alone there. I've kept in touch with my mother's group though I was actually already back at work by the time it started. We don't meet often but we stay in touch and get along well, which is nice. My other group is the ABA - it's what we do instead of playgroup. DS loves going to his meetings. If you look/ask around I'm sure you could find a local playgroup to try - they don't mind people just rocking up to see how it is.

Kaz, how do you get to know mums from daycare? I've only said hi to a few at dropoff or pickup. I'm not sure if DS really has any particular friends there. There were a few boys he seemed to hang out with, but they moved up to the kindy room a while back.

I laugh at contraception. Had midwives and doctors asking me about this pretty much the minute DD was born. Seriously!? First, I have a bloody great gash in my perinium and halfway up my backside - we are not having sex for ages. Second, it took 16 months for my cycles to return last time. And third, we're infertile anyway. But I promised we'd use condoms
I think it makes much more sense for teh bloke to get the snip than the woman, anyway.

Go Kaz! Yeah, I had a bit of a sook about it all drying up, I had hoped to keep giving her a little bit for awhile longer. She is a much happier little bub with a full tummy and a bit more awake time with us, so I'm focusing on that.

Thanks for the suggestions on how to get a bit more social activity! We have our antenatal class reunion in a couple of weeks too which should be good - two of the other couples were in hospy at the same time as me (one late, one on time and us early!) so it will be good to catch up.

Contraception... I thought it would take us a lot longer to conceive than it did, so was trying to chart my cycle so I wouldn't have to go back on the pill post-bub (we don't want to leave it too long between babies). HA. I fell on the first cycle, but have no idea when I ovulated as I had a negative pg test (blood test) 3 weeks after LMP (had to check - I was sick and couldn't take the prescribed meds if I was preggers), but then tested positive 1 month later, after no sign of AF (I didn't actually think I was pregnant - I was planning on doing a 10 day detox and it said not to do it if you were pregnant, so I thought I had better check). So back on the pill for me. Turns out the pill I was on was lighter than the mini pill! I guess there's the advantage of being a bit obsessive-compulsive - no accidents for me!

Why is it that guys get so thingie about getting the snip? I'm sorry, you SAW me become the size of a barn, you SAW me push out a 3kg bub with no analgesia, you SAW the guy stitch me up after (knowing full well I had never had a stitch before), you SAW my nipples cracked and bleeding, and you baulk at the idea of a little snip? Pshaw!

As I am officially no longer bf, I'm having a beer. My first in almost a year. It's a light and I feel hammered after 2 sips. I'm the life of the party, I am!

    Night all!

Oh dear PP, I'm going down the "everything in moderation" line - DH & I just enjoyed a pre-dinner vodka and then a glass of wine with tea

I know! Are you thinking any more kids??? It took us a year to conceive, so I'm not all that worried about contraception, and (shhhhhh....) TBH I wouldn't mind another possibility of a girl, but DH thinks it would be irresponsible of us (he'll be 50 next year, I'll be 40) to have another, plus my body is falling apart. After I had Pip the stitches were very sensitive, and it hurt to DTD, so I'm hoping that won't be the case this time.

We just had dinner with no Will! No crying during the cooking, preparing or eating! WOOHOOoo!!!!!

    Hey girls,

Quick update from me - sorry no time for personals today.

Still battling on here... my nipples are still absolutely killing me from the thrush and now I have cracked nipples too...I tried changing from football to cradle hold as he's getting so long that it's awkward and I had the nurse watch me attach him yesterday and she said I was doing it right but surely I'm doing something wrong if it hurts so much?! I figure I'll get rid of the thrush - if it'll EVER go... and then I'll try changing to cradle again. We drove two hours yesterday to do some shopping - nowhere close by has supplies, and it was basically empty where we ended up anyway...Jacob was a little difficult - I get so nervous going out with him cause he loves the car but once you take him out he starts getting cranky and there's nothing fun about trying to walk around a shop with a crying baby - I feel so embarrassed. We then went to the health nurse when we got back to town and Jacob has put on 390 grams in 7 days which was great, but we're still battling oral thrush which is just so depressing...we have changed his treatment, so hopefully we get results very soon!!! I cannot do ANY more than what I'm doing, I'm eating so bland, sterilising everything first with salt and then boiled water, using boiled water to wipe down my nipples, changing nursing pads every feed and putting gel on my nipples and gel in his mouth now!! We saw a friend of mine at the health centre and she had her little girl happily sleeping away in a capsule and DH said "oh is that a capsule for the car?" and she said "yeah it goes into my pram" and I immediately thought in my head - i bet it's a strider plus (the pram I originally REALLY wanted - and still regret not buying). Yep!! It sure was... she raved about how good it was etc and as we were leaving DH turns to me - holding a wriggling Jacob and says "I think we should buy one of those prams". haha. The thing stopping me in the first place was mum and dad bought our pram and I didn't think it was fair for them to fork out so much for a pram so I got one that's great for walking - we figure that the strider plus will be our nice 'going away' pram with the capsule perfect for our little one that doesn't like being moved around too much! so I've done my research and we're getting it when we go up north Tuesday/Wednesday. I'm so excited, fingers crossed it works the way we hope!!

Anyway, must be off...gotta get some sleep while I can!! Having said that, he'll hear me get into bed and wake up wanting a feed for sure

    Take care all xoxo

Hi ladies, not getting much of an opportunity to post lately. Harper has had horrible screaming every night of this week which results in my curling up in bed with her and just holding her until she goes to sleep. I did take her to the dr's during the week though as i could no longer carry on just assuming it's 'normal'. The dr i saw said it sounds like silent refulx and perscribed Zantac and i'm a little confused as to whether or not i could say it's helped yet. The day i first gave it to her she slept for a couple of hours at a time which was just not happening at all (surly the medication couldn't take effect that quickly???) but we still had the full on scream of the evening. I've just been reading the reflux threads trying to see what i can find out and i'm fairly convinced she is suffering from silent reflux. I hear the swallowing, falls asleep then wakes up screaming, the knees and arms are going like crazy when she's screaming. I absolutely hate seeing her this way. Anyway i'm trying to help her i just wish we could have results so much quicker. She starts pretty much the same time DH walks in the door from work and from then on we handball her from him, to me, to my mum. We take turns in eating dinner, cleaning up and having showers whilst she cries her little heart out. DH wants to go away this coming weekend but we're hesitant about taking her to a packed camping ground with our evening routine. DH still wants to go if i don't but i've told him it's not fair that i stay home and deal with her on my own while he goes and relaxes and it's also Aidan's bday i don't want us to be all seperated on that day. He's saying HE needs to get away and he's going. Lucky for him he can be selfish like that... Anyway no whinging, i'm off to bed before little miss wakes up. Will try catch up with everyone soon, hopefully next week we will start to have some results and i get to have a evening wind down like i used to.

Ok going to try for some personals...

MadB how is your little lady going? Are your evenings settling down a little. I have noticed a huge improvement with Harper on the Zantac, we have still had the witching hour the last couple of nights but her days are different, she's going longer between feeds and is sleeping for more than an 40-1hr!!! Thanks for all your support and advice. Good to know your sister is ok and safe from floods.

PP how are things now that you've had a few nights to try what you learnt at the sleep settling class? It's great when you find something that works so keep trying i'm sure you'll get there. I don't think any DH's like being told what to do but when you're not looking i'm sure he'll give it a go We had crazy humidity here last week also, we had washing hanging everywhere because it just wasn't drying. Not to mention the frizzy hair Oh and on the isolation part, i just saw comments and photos on facebook of my cousins having a great time last night and no invite for me either. We still catch up with mothers group from when Aidan was born but there is only 3 of us. It was a larger group but it does tend to die off with people returning to work or just finding that 'mothers group' may not be their thing. We enjoy catching up though, one mum had her 2nd within a week of me having Charlie boy and the other has also had her 2nd and is about to her her 3rd so we still have lots in common. Glad you got to have a chat to DH, sometimes they just don't realise... Hope you enjoyed your beer, there has been many nights when dealing with Harper that i have fantacised about how nice a drink would be, something to calm the nerves after so much screaming. I've barely drank for the last 5 years

Georgi i hope you are well and truely feeling much better by now and are able to enjoy your little family without feeling so ill. How are you boys going? How has Byron settled with his new brother?

Kaz hope you're having a great day. How is your little man and the bfing journey going. I see you sucess in expressing is increasing. I hope it continues. DH and I had already discussed contraception and he's going to have the 'snip'. He's agreed to it willingly. Maybe you could be like us Kaz and have 2 boys and a girl!!?? It'd be lovely Call me crazy but i was thinking about a 4th the other day

Gosh Jules i want this thrush to go away for you and Jacob, i've never had it before but gosh is sounds terrible. The process to try and get rid of it sounds so tiring. I'm going to have to cut it short on your personals as Harper is waking after a 3 or so hour sleep!!!! Woo hoo I will be back to catch up with you lovely.

    Talk soon ladies xox

    Hi guys
Got knocked for six after my last post here. Had one of those vodka premix drinks when DD went to sleep. I don't think I felt it at all

Jules, I wanted to ask about the thrush. DD has it too. I didn't bother with teh nilstat - can't see how it would work with a newborn - and have been using the gel for us both, but it isn't budging. My nipples have been ok though, thankfully. They were a bit sore and itchy, but seem fine now (fingers crossed). How long is it supposed to take? You've had it for weeks, right?

That makes sense Kaz. Hope you're having a good birthday.

That's good news Myboys. Hopefully the arsenic hour stuff will ease up soon too.
