Hi all
Just got back from MCHN and am a bit disheartend
Nixon only weighs 5.8 kilos..very little and is 61 cm long,,she says hes u bit undersize for his age)the otherl nurse there said hes ok and i shouldnt worry too much,my paed said hes ok,,just feel ive let him down, hes a shocker of an eater and no matter what i try nothing works, his dad was the same...i just persist and hard witht he reflux.
Then she tells me he needs more tummy time(he hates it esp with reflux)and he should be rolling and he needs to be on the floor stretched outmore and not upright(der i have to keep him upright for reflux)Im a bit angry with them as i feel like just a number in a production line, they had a babies program for mums n bubs about sleeping, settling.,feeding solids, etc etc and they failed to let me know, glad im moving in 3 weeks and the MCHN and centre there is really good..
A good thing my boys getting long, hes grown quite a bit,
feedtime for nixon
time to go

Ah Sonya I'm sorry you feel down. MCHN's have a bit of a rep for doing that believe me I know. Look you are doing a FAB job and Nixon is fine. Do not doubt yourself and your abilities as a mother. You are doing all the best things for him. It's not your fault he's small - it sounds like genetics to me! And he will roll and do all that stuff in his own time.....BBL MIL just arrived.........
Sonya - sorry to hear your visit didn't go well. Don't worry too much about what the MCHN said, when we visited a couple of weeks ago Owen was only 5.5kgs, when I look at some of the other babies in my mums group I think he is the skinniest by far. His length was 59cms, we keep being told he's long and lean, DH and I don't know where he's got either from, lol. I'm with Soph on the rolling, he'll roll in his own time, the MCHN's just look at averages, some take longer than others. I have a nephew who's almost 2 and not yet talking, just pointing, his parents aren't worried just say he'll talk when he's ready. Also your MCHN can make you feel bad depending on who they are.
Runner - hope you're recovering well
Orange - you're very organised with the work stuff, nothing like getting in early
Well, today has been a mixed bag for us today, thought we were doing well with the sleeping, Owen settled himself off to sleep all day today but when it came to tonight he just wouldn't go down. The way he usually settles didn't work, so picked him up and rocked him which I haven't done in ages but didn't work well. Then in desperation I breastfed him really quickly, re wrapped him and bang he was asleep. Just when you think things are sorted they throw a curve ball your way!!
Gave him a massage just before he went to bed which I've done many times before, but wondered whether that stimulated him too much with the eye contact etc., who knows..........
Just a quick one for Sonie.....I agree with Soph and Shellsie.....you are doing a fab job with little Nixon. You will know when there is something wrong and just remember that all bubs are different and unique in terms of development. My DD and DS are very different. Imagine how boring this thread would be if all our bubs were doing the same things at the same time he he!
I mentioned earlier that my DD is only JUST 10kg and 90cm tall....she is a couple of weeks off turning 2. She is about an inch off the lowest percentile on the graphs in the growth book - so she isn't even on the chart or in the lowest percentile. I am not worried about her weight as she gains....even if very slowly. It annoys me how these nurses put pressure on us to have our children fit into the mould that they call 'normal'. So, be strong and don't let their opinions worry you. BTW, thought I would let you know that we have started solids with some positive signs so far. Still early days and we have only offered farex, but we have noticed that he is keeping it down...unlike most bottles. HTH
Shellsie: "Who knows" is my answer to many things when it comes to Dash too.....he he.
Runner: Thanks for the encouragement...I am really excited. Hope your calf heals soon. I thought water exercises were gentle on your body??
ETA: Both kidlets are in bed by 7pm but I am unable to get to sleep. Anyone else suffering from insomnia? I have never before but it has been a problem lately. I am lucky that I can sleep for 12 hours a night if I want but I am getting only about 3-5 hours of a sleep a night.

Thanks ladies for all your encouraging words...I know my son is doing well as hes so responsive, happy and in-tune with his surroundings, hes just a shocker of a feeder, his dad was,i was,and we are both small framed people(though at 65 kilos and size 14 at 5 foot 1 its hardly small atm)so am not stressing too much, just angry at my MCHN oh well im moving and wont be seeing the twit again anyway..
I so need to drop the kilos.am going on a diet soon, have ordered that new ab swing pro thing on tv where u spin on the disc,i just have a muffin top and big boobs,,,always had both even when slimmer. That and a wii fit and a gym membership and im gonna get crack-a-lackin,id like to lose 5-8 kilos to start, thats my goal..i dont eat a lot as im always on the go..Nixon's christening is in august so id like to lose it by the, funny when i put my control top shapewear nickers on i look like i did b4 preggo, everyone says ive done well n not gained a lot of weight which i didnt but i just feel fat and the last 5 kilos are hard, the 1st 3 weeks or so the weight dropped off me,dont help that it winter n shyt here n hard to get outside...
Orange-im suffering insomnia too...always have but since Nixon born it went away and the last couple of weeks i been going bed 1am and the next day im zonked....been taking valerian but i have had a lot on my plate as well as i have probs with my metabolism and my thyroid(been removed and am on daily medication)am about to cut all caffeine out, dont drink it after 3pm but if say i have a red bull at 2pm im peaking at midnight??go figure
anyway im off chat soon

soniebon - I totally agree SO MUCH with what the other ladies on this forum have already said - YOU are the expert when it comes to Nixon, not the Nurse...she can guide you and offer advice, but really, you are there with him everyday and know him the best. He will do things in his own time. Sometimes going to these MHCNs make mothers feel bad about all sorts of things when in reality, YOU are doing such a wonderful, loving job of bringing your son up - GOOD ON YA !!
And don't be so hard on yourself re the weight loss - just do what you can, when you can. Eat as fresh as possible, drink lots of water, move about as much as possible and sleep as much as possible - YES - sleep helps to produce a hormone that helps us to lose weight and control appetite. Recent research confirms this. And walk with the bub and pram whenever you can.
orangefeather - calf still sore....not happy! I have been cycling all week instead of running. Water exercises are gentle on the body, but NOT kicking with fins HARD for 400ms straight when you have not done it for months!! Well, only 7 and a bit weeks until the half marathon, but I should be OK.
soph - where are you ordering the BBH inserts from?? I have one for every nappy, but also used Polar Fleece cut into pieces for extra leakage protection - works a treat!! Get it from Spotlight.
Runner, it must be killing you not being able to run! You poor thing, I hope it heals up soon for you.
Son, the other girls have got it right! Sounds like little Nixon is just going to be small-framed. Most weight-growth is genetic in our little ones.
Orange, both in bed by 7pm? What's your secret? Ben's bedtime is 9pm. I know it's late, but he only sleeps 10 hours overnight so I'd rather him get up at 7am than put him to bed earlier and have him get up early.
Sorry, I can't help you on the insomnia. I'm so exhausted right now that I swear I'm asleep before my head hits the pillow at night. Sneaking naps during the day is another story entirely
Soph, if you find a good night time nappy please let me know. We've just given up on them again for Ben after three nights of him wetting right through his BBH and over the top of the wool cover
I'm still buggered here, but we've had a good day. Got organised enough to hit two shopping centres this morning, swapping Jared between the HAB and the pram. Ben was an angel thank goodness! Both bubs were in cloth, I bf Jared and shared a snack with Ben and we all came home happy Jared even fell asleep in the car which he rarely does. I had to stock up on winter clothes for them both as they both seem to have grown so much in just this past week. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of winter hand me downs in 00 and 0 so had to buy more. Oh well, maybe we can use them for #3!
