Hi Everyone.....
I'm finally here....sorry it has taken me so long to post.
Isabella is doing great. Came home from the hospital on Monday and she has settled right in at home....sleeping in 4 hour blocks and sometimes I get a 5 hr sleep.
This is my first baby so it defiantly a adjustment. I have never spent so much time in the house!
She seem to have a bit of a unsettled period around 7/8pm but from the sounds of things, its quite normal.
Question- When did you start taking your babies out. I mean to the local shops etc. She is only 10 days old so is it too soon?
I'm glad everyones baby's are going well. Isabella's cord fell off on day 6.
I had a natural birth but have stiches like most of you. Healing well but dtd is the last thing I'm thinking about.....
Deb-glad Harley had a good first night. And glad your getting the hang of breastfeeding..
Kim-glad that the midwife is happy about you and bubs progress..
LMS-hope your boys behaved themselves for you today..
Gincasa-I am also a first time mummy and have heaps of questions. Lol. Good to see you here..
Puppies-Ryley umbilicus fell off when he was a week old and yuck. Lol. I been trying to clean it with sea salt and cotton bud and its stubborn to get it clean..Plus Ryley moves heaps as well..
seenabeena-glad your bubs is going well..
Hello to everyone else.
Slings-I have a jazsling and still trying to work it out
Bleeding-on and off and little clots now and then. I had 8 stitches plus a episomy and I found having 2 baths a day helps with the healing process but I wish my butt still didn't feel so sore. Lol.
Breastfeeding-I applaud the girls who keep on with it..I don't feel guilty about giving it up a little disappointed but Ryley is happy so it makes me happy.
AFM-Ryley is doing well on the formula and now drinking 120mls..I am off to my nans his great nan tomorrow and I haven't seen her for 20 years and plus it be my first public outing with Ryley and dad coming as well which is good. Ryley still gets restless now and then and is feeding every 4 hours plus some water in between. Other than that all is well..
The only time that JD has been in the car was on the way home from the hospital and he was unsettles at first and then went quiet until we arrived home. So I think he likes the car. I would like to get him in the car again soon for a drive and get him used to it. We walked him in his pram around the block the first day we came home and he screamed the whole way around. But since then he has been asleep when we have taken him and he seems to be happy sleeping through the walk which is nice so DH and I can enjoy the fresh air and chat together. I want to walk twice a day now. So I can get some sunshine which Dr has said I need 20 minutes everyday. So we will walk after his breakfast or lunchtime feed and again after dinner with DH and the pup.
JD is still asleep now so might leave DH to watch over him while I sneak up teh shops for some dvd's for the week and a few odd bits and peaces.
As for formula, we are new to all this but it seems that JD loves his NUK teats better than my nipples! He only likes my nipples when he is calm otherwise he just plays with them and cries and fights and cries. Which really upsets me. But if we put his milk in a NUK bottle with a NUK teat he is happy and to be honest I would rather do that most of the time now cause at least I can see what he is getting and not gulping and then getting wind. We have been giving him formula (Karatine Gold) at night time as it seems to keep him sleeping longer, perhaps he is fuller on that and less pooey. Cause he hates a pooey or wet nappy! So he will get breast milk during the day and formula at night and so far that sees to be working. But its all about, ok lets try this and see what happens. Like now we let him sleep in his cot and not in his pram or in our bed unless its for a couple of hours like this morning. Where DH put him in with me for his morning feed and we feel asleep together which was nice.
Anyway better get to the shops so I can come back for my nanna nap, i have the night shift again tonight as DH goes to work tomorrow. But at least he will work from home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have the nurse coming to visit on Thursday and am looking forward to knowing how JD is progressing. Also 12 days now and still the cord stump is hanging on there. I hope it comes off soon cause it looks like it might be irritating. Do I clean in with metho or isocole? MIL said clean in with metho and I was like wont that sting? Or should I just leave it?
P.S. Can't wait to join a play group or mothers group, feel so isolated a bit.
Hi ladies - just in a bit of zombie land here. We have such a beautiful day outside - wish I could take the kids out but afternoon sleeps make things are little limited.
I'm keeping in touch with you all, sorry for not posting much tho. April is generally doing well. Not up so much at night and either sleeps a lot between feeds or not all during the day. The jaundice keeps her a little lazy still at the breast but the LC guided me to just bfing so - so far so good. DS loves his sister and can't get enough of cuddles and kisses but is a handful still and goes running off crying for no reason so that is a little hard to handle at the moment but all in all ok.
April's cord came off after 7 days - it bled for a few days but is fine now.
I'm hardly bleeding at all now - just a yucky coloured discharge mainly but most times nothing to be seen.
April is feeding really well - she latches on well which is a big change from how it was with DS. I feed her in bed sometimes at night but find that my milk doesn't drain as well in those feeds so prefer to get up and feed on couch if i can. Also, I found it interesting that even tho i am bfing exclusively, I went to bed last night without a breast pad and didn't leak at all - hmmmm....
I had a jazsling all lined up to use but when I used it last Sat i realised it is way too big so have sent it back for a smaller one which hopefully will be the right fit. I also changed the colour from black to a stone colour - the black i think will show lint and muck a lot easier.
welcome officially deb, kim, purplemamma, seena, gincasa - looking forward to getting everyone's imput about their babies in here. I am not a first time mum but still feel i have room to learn.
jo - love your pics of your family on fb!!!
seena - going to try and totally bf April only cos like jo i don't want anything interfering with bf, and things totally were stuffed when i had DS - we were all over the shop. Hopefully my aim is to feed less at night with adquate bf supply and more during the day.
gincasa - how are you hun? I took April to local shopping centre when she was 9 days old and bf at gloria jeans with a muslin wrap to cover - I felt good about it all. Then we took her to my aunt's 50th last weekend which was fine cos lots of family were there for cuddles - feeding pattern went a bit out of the window tho. Looking forward ot catching up.
As for DTD, I am strictly waiting for the 6weeks go-ahead. We have not yet talked about contraception, whether we want more kids, etc etc. Just not ready for all that yet when sleep deprivation is not making me think too clearly.
kirsten - glad you do not feel guilty about ff ryley - as you shoudn't. I had a terrible time with DS and almost asked my mum and sil for permission to stop bfing at 10 weeks - I was a wreck - so I applaud you doing the right thing early for your bub and you.
Big hugs to everyone - my little one is screaming her lungs out so I guess it's milk time!!!
Well JD's cord has just come off completely. DH sent me out for a quick trip to the shops to pick up a few things and when I got back he had this ****ty look on his face and I know why cause JD was gutzing his milk down again and projectile vomited it everywhere, the couch, DH , the floor , all over himself and we honestly dont know what to do. How do we make him slow down?
Also I stress when he cries, I freak out thinking why can't I help him. Is he hungry, tired, sore tummy, lonely... Is this normal for me to be so overwhelmed? Also I guess it doesn't help that I missed my nanna nap this afternoon. I just can't settle when the house looks like a bomb hit it and I feel incredible guilt for having to rely on DH so much.
Thanks everyone that gave me tips about the Nappy Bag..
Kim-glad Zach is settling in well..
seenabeena-Ryley likes the bath one minute then he hates it It's like when I am changing him he can be quiet but sometimes he is screaming. Lol.
Jo-glad things are going well..
lilcosmo-glad your okay..
Hello to everyone else..
AFM-My first outing went really well getting on and off the train was a bit hard but I had dad's help I hope I be okay when I go out on my own because the platforms are pretty low..Good to see my nan after 20 years and she was smitten with Ryley as well and so were his 2 great great aunts. Glad to be home its so hot and I think I be in for a bad night cos Ryley hates the heat and speaking of Ryley his has the hiccoughs at the moment Have the MCHN coming tomorrow for the first visit and then I be going down to see them I am going to ask about the mothers group thing I wouldn't mind joining one.
Sorry I've been a bit quiet, just had so much on with visitors and all! Having 2 kids now is keeping me lots more busy!
Well we had a bad night for the first time, Harley woke for a BF at 7.30pm, was on for a good half hour, managed to get him down and have a shower and got into bed and no more then 2 mins later he is upset and wouldn't settle. Thought he had wind, so tried burping him, but no such luck, but he was sucking away at my arm and his fingers, so I thought maybe he didn't get enough, so back to the chair we went and tried again, was on for prob another 20mins and fell asleep, I thought great, we might all get some sleep now...and again 2mins after getting into bed he is upset again...so think hmmm maybe try the other side... cos I know he falls asleep abit on the boob, so went in for another 30mins on that side and again hes falling asleep at the end and I thought surely this time he will go down...but nope, then I thought maybe he had to much and had a real belly ache, but he just kept sucking at his fingers and the dummy was getting a good workout..and then the tears just came..my baby blues kicked in...I started feeling like a failure again, that I wasn't giving him enough and my boobs just hurt so much and my nipples are cracked...but I just really wanted to give this a shot and I have my SIL who seems to look down on me and I just had all these images of her saying I'm a failure... Rob was just so good, was calming me down, and I said, I really wish I had got a tin of formula just to be on the safe side, and we had no 24hour chemists around. Then it came to me that Nina next door had formula cos her lil boy is now on the bottle...I just wanted to give Harley a top up..so looked to see if their lights were on...was 11.30pm and yeh the lights were on. So called Nina and she was like I'm over right away, cos I just burst into tears...she came over and we topped him up and she then showed me how to wrap him in a muslim wrap (didn't get shown at the hospital) and he settled nicely...although after a good burp and poop!
So I was so greatful for Nina...she said anytime...
I got a breast pump today and well the right boob got all this blood coming out...and then when the blood part had gone thru, I only got 30mils from that side and about 40mils from the other...Looks very watery, like I'm not getting the thick stuff. My midwife is coming tomorrow, so will talk to her about it...This happened last time, my supply just wasn't enough... So looks like I'm heading down the formula trail again...but I'm not going to beat myself up over it...will wait till she comes tomorrow to decide on anything...
Just a question though, will it hurt him to have a bit of both? Like I'm thinking I'll give him the booby juice I got out next feed...Just don't want to upset him...
So glad everyone is going well with their babies... so wish we could all meet up... Are there any other mums here in Brissy? I don't think their are... Oh wells, I'm just glad we have support thru here
Ok well I'm gonna head off...time to do a few things.. oh just before I head off, went to the shops for the first time today and boy do my joints need some exercise hehe
