Karen- sounds reasonable enough to me The reason we have decided to wait until 5 months is because there is so much conflicting info on the issue - if u feed to early allergies etc and if u start feeding too late then the baby may be under nourished... we wanted to start Aneta on solids next month but realized it was more out of our curiosity... so we'll wait another 6 weeks or so

Feeding: it's a gradual process anyway... they have to actually learn to swallow and effective feeding can takes weeks to establish... more food ends up on you and them than in their tummies to start off with (and not just the first feed). I'll probablt start around 6 months because that what seems to be the most common suggested date plus it's worked with my other two. Wade was fairly easy to feed ie he would actually open his mouth... but he still pushed most out with his tongue until he was 7 months old... so most of his sustenance was breast milk until then... uh where's Wade now? BRB

I like the idea of the mesh teethers for when we're ready for solids. Like Cee Cee, I'm going to see how Oscar goes but I'm hoping to push it out till late December/early Jan cos we'll be in NZ then and I'd rather we be as self-sufficient as possible with food for Oscar and not worrying about carrying extra food in his bag! If we do have to, then we do, but it can't hurt to have a plan A! I was thinking that we can start playing with pureed apple when we are there.
DP is out playing with fire at a training day with the brigade, so I'm on my own AGAIN! Yesterday he was helping a friend with his deck after he was at his brother's helping with their internet connection issues. Not to be nasty, but to look after myself I left everything in the house cos he said he'd come back and tidy up. Never happened cos we were invited to the deck friends' for dinner (was yummy!). Had to give up on the idea of going to GF's 30th cos it would have meant having Oscar in the car for 45 mins one way - he wouldn't have been content that whole way, not with his cough and congested nose, so I opted to go to our friends' who live 3 minutes away by car. Oscar was great - he slept in his cocoon for a lot longer than I expected so I got to eat a whole meal in one sitting without wearing him! Today I'm on my own again but I did manage to clean up a bit while he slept earlier. I need to get my horse ready for the farrier tomorrow, but I may well ask DP to go there with me and get him, cos as much as it's a lovely day, I really don't want to upset Oscar's apple cart if DP can help me out with that. I'd love to head out in this weather but I don't want to take a step back in our recovery I bet that the day we feel well enough to head out it will be freezing and pouring with rain!
Why is it taking so long to get better??? Oscar is SOOOO full of snot and there's only so much of that aspirator he's willing to put up with at any one time.

Karen - no offense taken! I like everyone opions. Really, Ally may get to 5 months and be screaming for food? Or my supply may stop or anything can happen. I want to delay solids as long as possible for my convenience and also a part of me wants her to still need me in the way she does now... My cousin was on solids almost from birth, he was even feed a raw egg at two weeks, and he is now 33, strong as an ox - never been sick,ect..

IK: oh you poor thing. sorry you are still sick... please try my ginger tea cure - I've written it before, but it is about 2 teaspoons of fresh grated ginger root, 1 teaspoon of honey - put in a mug and pour boiling water over it, let stand for a few minutes and sip. this always works for me. It is the cure for the common cold in India. Also, did you get your MooGoo? Is it fixing your dry scalp? Does it not smell divine?

Grrr.... Wade keeps sneaking into Verity's room to raid her showbag! He is very discreet about it too! Has worked out how to open her door using something to stand on making the minimum of noise. Need to find a better hiding spot for it!

ETA: Just adding piccys of Verity and I at the show yesterday to our websites... we went on the Ferris Wheel for the first time together... lucky it wasn't windy like today! As it was the slight breeze swayed the carriage just a little more than I would have liked LOL note nervous smile! Oh and no comments on the dorky cap please... it was functional rather than a fashion statement.... last year sustained sunburnt forehead... it's amazing Verity didn't get one... but her skin is more olive than mine I guess. DH seemed to cope quite well with both boys for 7 hours... Niall accepted 3 EBM bottles from him apparently... and they were all asleep when Verity and I arrived home last night at 11pm. I was engorged to point of breast deformity! Used manual pump instead of waking Niall... but just as I was drifting off to sleep he woke! So I had to feed him anyhow.

Oh and Hiya CeeCee... bother about your hammock! Welcome to the world of temporary solutions! I know your pain!

Bath - fires are on my side of the world that I was referring to. Our scanner is set to pick up radio traffic on this end up as far as Warrandyte and Wonga Park down to the Peninsula and across to Tonimbuk (where there is a current threat to the state forest). It's going nuts today. There was something earlier near Healesville and I think that's what I can smell at my place (was just putting laundry out on the line...naughty, but if I wait for DP to get home the rain will have set in - plus, I need him to get us to my horse more than I need the washing out!).
BTW, photos of you and Verity are great! I've got a hankering for the show now...next year!!
ETA:Cee Cee, just saw your post - I have a jar of grated ginger, will that suffice in place of fresh ginger root in the house?? I've been drinking different herbal things all week. I have in front of me a mug of fenugreek (probably overkill, but Oscar's feeding has been so haphazard this last week and even though a decrease in supply will still likely leave him with plenty, I would be devastated if my supply took a dive!) and dried chrysanthemum flowers with a tablespoon of honey (makes my throat feel nice!). I've also got on hand valerian rootlets and lemongrass. Other times I squeeze a whole lemon, couple of pinches of whole cloves and tablespoon of honey - that works lovely last thing before bed. I'll try the ginger, though. I have also GOT to start drinking more water!

Hello all - have had a great day so far

Flynn slept till 6am (after being fed at midnight. DH and I spent the morning cleaning the house - god it looks good now - we got rid of alot of the renovation materials lying around.

Old friend came over for pizza in our wood fired oven (IK - hope today was not total fire ban day!!) and bnow is staying for dinner - pot roast lamb in wood fired oven also.

Also jumped on ebay for first time - bought a Peg Perego Prima Pappa highchair for $100 - and its in Maribrynong (suburb only 10mins from my place).

Now might go sit on couch and read mags while DH and mate do boystuff outside - Flynn is sleeping like a lamb.......

gotta go - lamb just woke up!!!

Introducing Solids: Well i have just recently started Tee on solids (not a lot just a little bit). I would have had liked to wait till at least 6 months but due to her reflux her paed. suggested it....she is ok on them but is very fussy and can't comprehend the spoon thing, it is so messy and soooo cute.
Wade's Birthday: Gee 30 people is a lot to try and work out what to do with. Good luck with the organising. By the way could you please send me a list of the June Mummies e-mail addys as i don't have them. My e-mail addy is: StarMummy@bellybelly.com.au
Tummy time: Well i have no answers to that one either. Tee doesn't mind tummy time but if you leave her like that for too long she lets us know about it and gets quite upset....thats usually after about 45 mins. I just used to pesevere with her as she didn't want a bar of it at first.
CeeCee: It's a bugger when they start to realise that certain things mean sleep time....i don't know how many times Tee has done it to me!!!! Although i haven't ever used a hammock. Although maybe it is an idea i could look into...
Bath Time: i am so lucky that so far Tee hasn't pooped in the bath yet. If she ever does it will be gross as sometimes she has a bath with me....YUCK
Online Bushfire Radar: I would be very curious to look at that....where do you go to see the radar??? Sounds good.
Bathsheaba:LOL at Wade getting into Verity's showbag...he is a clever little boy isn't he. He knows what he wants when he wants and obviously is determined to get it!!
Me: Tee is going through a 3mnth growth spurt i think...feeding more often, sleeping less etc etc etc. Hopefully she will put on a bit of weight this time not just length. I went and tried to find a pair of swimmers for her yesterday and the smallest i could find was 000 when my baby is only a 00000 or a 0000 for length.
I got my thermometer in the post the other day but am trying to hold off temp taking as i think as soon as i start that i will want to concieve straight away and its still a couple of months before i'm going to not actively TTC and actively is a fair way away, i got one from lullaby conceptions. It all looks so confusing though
Have to go as it is time to go as its time to bath Tee and go to my dads...watch footy and nibblies!! and of course have a drink.

hey all sorry for the delay in posts - back from our weekend in Sydney (wedding was good) and my folks have been here since so have been busier than usual.

Firstly to Candy - a big congratulations on your engagement - havent been on since you announced your news - hope all your planning goes smoothly

IK - hope your feeling completely better soon - its so annoying when you just can't shake an illness. Hope Oscars nose clears up soon.

Bath - you mention re Wade sneeking into Verity's bedroom - don't know what type of door handles you have but if they are the knob types have you seen the plastic ones that can go over them that require them to be squeezed and turned at the same time - difficult for little hands. I'm usually into teaching behaviours as unacceptable but have used these with Benjamin on the back of the front door when he went through the stage of opening it to get out the front and I was stuck somehwere feeding Samuel. (they are no good for lever handles though )unfortunately.

Enigma and Emishka - good to see you back.

Anyway thought I would just drop on and say hi (and specifically pass on the belated congratulations to Candy) and hopefully will have a bit more time this week to chat.

Well I think that Cody has been going thru a growth spurt he's feeding more as well, he finally had a poo today so I know that it was a growth spurt cause he went about 3-4 days without one. Tomrrow is Kailens op so I won't be online until late or not until Tuesday. I'm getting a bit nervous now and have explained to him what will happen tomrrow, so hopefully he understands. We have to be at the hospital by 7am so have to be up by about 5am and both he and I have to have a shower and the other boys need to be feed. I've put them all in the clothes that they will wear tomrrow so that I don't have to change them. Hopefully Lockie and Wyatt behave cause it's going to be a long day.

Solids I'm just going to take my cue from Cody, so will see what happens, my other boys started at about 4-5 months so who knows with him.

Rory yum we would love a woodfire oven mmmm making me hungry.

Well I made a chocolate with white choc chip cake today so that's going to be dessert.

Better go and see how dinners going.

Jaspen: Great to see you back! Sounds like to had an enjoyable time Goes without saying we all missed you!

Amanda: Oh I'd be nervous too... even the mere thought of one of my children having an op makes me worry. Strange how when it's me it doesn't bother me at all! I've had quite a few operations and never been especially nervous, always had faith in the surgeon's ability etc... but the idea of my children... it's another story. Anyhow We'll all be thinking of you... sending Kailen our prayers Maybe try a sedative in the form of a herb tea or some lavendar oil on your wrists... might take the edge off your tension. Oh that cake sounds yum... not sure what we're going to do about dinner yet...

IK - not sure about using bottle ginger, but you could try it. Best to drink three cups, the liquid helps I'm sure, but the ginger warms your body and helps you sweat it out as well.

Rory - the trick is to never brad about how good your baby is - Ally always wakes as soon as I say anything like that..

Amanda - we will be sending you lots of postitive vibes tomorrow for Kailen.

oh, gotta go, DH is home and I was suppose to make dinner... opps...will do more personals tomorrow..

Sorry, forgot to respond about this sooner! There's no bushfire radar online that I am aware of - I was commenting on the radio traffic on my scanner. But if I remember to turn the scanner on I can be your radar...but only if you live east of Melbourne!

Just a quick one, I was putting Kailen to bed and told him that I would wake him up early for a shower then go to the hospital and he said something that nearly made me cry, he asked me if he was going to DIE. I told him that no he wasn't, OMG how bad is it that a 6 year old thinks that he will die just going into hospital.

OH Amanda! How heart wrenching! Maybe he is thinking of something he has heard or seen on tv? Maybe you could tell him that hospital is where lives are saved and that more people die outside of hospitals than inside them? I'd understand if you didn't want to raise the subject again... it's just my preference to talk openly about stuff as kids raise them... if he senses that you feel ok about talking about it he'll pick up on how relaxed you are talking about it and may not stress as much as if you don't or react badly? I guess opinions could differ... ((((big hugs to Kailen)))

Well hello again!

Has been a rather quiet weekend and Matt has tomorrow off so we should get some quality Mummy and Daddy time!

Matt bought a DVD recorder with his birthday money so he's been busy playing with it but I don't think he's recorded anything yet. I wanted to borrow my nephew's Wiggly Safari video that I bought him a couple of years ago and copy it but my brother (who I thought would know how) doesn't know how to do it! I've been scouring the shops and now Steve Irwin has departed it's as rare as hen's teeth!! :eek:

Speaking of which my neighbour was taking her little girl (18 months) to Wiggles World today as apparently they're playing live during these school holidays. I texted her and asked her to buy me one JIC they have it! Doubt it though!

Tummy Time: Aleise hates it too and I've had to tell daycare ladies not to do it 'cause I have been gradually getting her used to it. she's fine with rolling from side to side and can actually roll back on her own now.

Solids: The Child nurse we saw last Wed reckons you don't start solids until 6 months but I told her a paed started my friend's little boy at 4 months 'cause he had severe reflux. She reckons he was "Of the old school and misinformed". Honestly how can a nurse know more than a child specialist?? Some nurses are know it alls! - oh I don't mean the June Mum in here who's a nurse of course - just this chick!

Update: Aleise has been grabbing toys that I offer her and playing with them. A baby book I got from the library said at this age (4 months) they overshoot and miss the toy when offered - well not her! Also playing games of poking out tonges amuses her immensely and she copies me - its soooo cute! We've started having baths with her too and thankfully no toilet mishaps (yet!). She's also been very vocal and loves making a racket while we're still in bed. Thankfully she woke at 6.30am this morning and no earlier 'cause it was my shift!

Simone and Ceecee good to see you back in here! Sorry to hear about your FIL CeeCee and hope he gets better soon. My mum is French but I don't know much at all - except swear words

Bath: Take you up on the offer to hire Verity's housecleaning services! Seaworld is my favourite out of the 3. Haven't been to Wet N Wild and I'm sure by the time you come up this way you'll need to go to cool off! We had 30C yesterday and summer isn't here yet! :eek:

Who was it who was having probs with baby hammock not working??? Feel for you darls and maybe she just wants attention?? Aleise has taken to whinging when we put her down and she wants an instant "pick me up or else" tanty! have you tried the bath, feed and bed thing? I've got JJ Bedtime bath and even spongebathing Aleise does the trick!

Ohh.. just read post about Amanda's son - Kailen.. hope he's okay Amanda and tell him Neeny's had operations (tonsils out twice) and operation to get her baby out and she didn't die! And of course c/s is more intense that grommits!

PS> Forgot to mention brother's future MIL died last night - she was only 56 but the family knew it was coming as she was battling cancer. Said prayers for her in church and all even though I never met her. Hope that future SIL will let my brother visit us a bit more now - she dominates his every move.. long story! Nigtie Night everyone!
