well we are home from the paeds appoint. all good..except he thinks Jack may be abit refluxy..because when he is laid down he scream/stiffens/slightly arches his back... we spoke intensly about tummy sleeping and although he wouldn't say to do he showed me afew ways to get him to sleep on his tummy so he is more settled...he said if he basically said to tummy sleep him he could go to jail....
so now we are looking at a monitor so he can sleep on his tum...
we are also to give him 5mls of mylants after a feed....
oh... and he weighs 5.25kgs![]()
why would he go to jail kat? it isnt illegal?
ethan tummy sleeps
It isn't illegal hun but SIDS do not recommend tummy sleeping and if someone takes his advice and something happens to bub they could sue him.

Doc appotointment today went well. Im now on the mini pill.. yay for me. lol. He had a look in her mouth and said that she could have thrush and to keep her on the drops but also to try and get my finger in there to clean it a little as it could just be milk residue. Tried that.. didnt seem to work. He said that it is very common for babies to get some sort of thrush in their mouth and nearly every baby gets it. So im to keep her on the drops and keep cleaning it, if it doesnt work or gets worse to bring her back and he will suggest something else.
Re the rash.. he also said this is ok and he isnt too worried about it but once again, if it gets worse to bring her back in. I forgot what he said it was but one way to fix it, i think he said steriods? He also said not to apply any creams to it. So is all good.
I have my 6 week checkup next wednesday, with my midwife i seen right through the pregnancy. Im glad its with her. Pap smear booked for the 15th december... ho humand Mia's needles are pretty much organised for the 17th december.. poor little munchkin.
Tummy sleeping isnt illegal just not reccommended. Mia doesnt like being on her tummy anymore, she can only cope with about 3 mins max, tummy time. Shes a side sleepy, refuses to fall asleep on her back!
Had a BF today.. went pretty well, it was just to stop her screaming while her bottle cooled down. But seemed to do the trick and she attached pretty well. Still pulled off a couple of times but not too bad.
anyway, its been a loooooong day with her today so going to try and get some housework done so after her 8pm feed i can go straight to bed! im absalutly buggered. Oh bubbi please let mummy get just a little sleep tonight..
I've felt so alone today and really low.The last couple of weeks I've had people coming to visit and this is the first week I'll be totally on my own! This morning I decided to go to the shops to get out of the house. But it took me most of the day to get organised, cos Maya would cry non-stop unless I held her! Then I got stuck in the most awful traffic jam with Maya absolutely screaming. When we arrived she wouldn't stop screaming so I went to feed her. And I was STARVING cos it was 3.30pm by this stage and I hadn't eaten since 10am! So I started crying in the parents room. Then I only had half an hour at the shops before I drove home with Maya screaming the whole way home.

oh Itsme.. HUGE hugs! remember u are NEVER alone. we are all here for u and we will help u through everyday. Some bubs just dont like the car, but thats no excuse for the crappy day u had. Just remember tomorrow is another day and try and take some chill out time. If she needs u holding her or u to be near her, lay on the bed, lay her on a pillow next to u and just cuddle for a few hours. She will prob go to sleep and it gives u some time to get some shut eye too.
Also, today i seen a lady who attached toys (like the one u hang from ur pram) to the top of the roof of the car. Im sure u can just do this using some velcro. Just a thought to give Maya something to look at, see if that works. If not everytime u BF, clean up the spills and squirt some breastmilk on a little blanket. Then drap it over her in the car. The smell of u might keep her a little calmer. Aand.. the car gives Mia horrible wind.. could she have a tummy ache from the car? To solve this i give Mia a sip of water before and after going in the car and burp her, it helps bring the wind up. HTH hunny.. and remember ur NEVER alone! xoxoxoxoo
sending you lots and lots of hugs itsmeYou are never alone and it will get better.
Our baby care nurse took me through "self settling" which seems to be controlled crying under a different name, I can see the benefits of Bethany being able to put herself to sleep but I don't know if I am strong enough to stick it out... Has anyone tried it?
Itsme -hun it does get easier lovely and we are all here for you. Next time you decide to go out get everything you need sorted the night before, tell yourself you will get out at SOME stage during the next day but don't set a time and then with everything ready to go wake up, feed, shower etc and then when things seem ok, do the dash out the door. I did that the first few times, set myself tiny goals and got myself organised long before I had to go so I wasn't overwhelmed by it all.
and just remember we are all here for you.
Amy - I did controlled comforting (not crying and not timed) after going to sleep school at 6mths and I started doing it at 7 mths wtih Isabelle. I would cuddle, pat, shhhh but not breastfeed if she woke up beteween 7-6. I wouldn't do it with a baby less than 6 mths old but that's JMO. I think they are too young and need comfort and feeds at that young age.
i know its a NO NO.. tummy sleeping etc... and so are pillows... BUT both my older two had a pillow.. and i have had Jack in bed now for the past 2 1/2 to 3 hrs wrapped and on a fairly thin pillow.. and he is SOOOO settled..BUT the minute he starts rolling the pillow will be gone...
he had a HUGE chuck at his last feed... and was soo grizzly afterwards...took me abit to get him to sleep but he has been sleeping since.
Paed also recommended we give him after his feed 5ml of mylanta..so we shall see how it goes.
Aawww Itsme, huge hugs for you hun! I wish I'd known where you were, I woulda come down and given you a big hug in person... I don't think I'm THAT far away from you. Crying in the car is just awful, I always feel like such a bad mum even though I know I'm not. Hang in there, we're all here for you![]()
Katones: One of the reasons babies don't need pillows is because they don't have necks (not really).
Itsme: I totally understand how you feel. I have been alone this whole time and I am down. I agree with Tan, setting small goals is the best way to get through the tough days. My goal for today was simply to make a phonecall.
I think all my problems - the gastro, the insomnia, the fatigue, and today's rash on my hip - are all side effects of maxolon so I stopped taking it and I feel improved but still recovering. I wish I'd thought about that days ago. 6 days of crap side effects was too much.
belfie - Thanks. I find it so hard listening to her screaming in the car when I can't do anything for her!
Tanstar - Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought to organise myself the day before. I think that's the way to go!
Hollye - Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately Maya just doesn't like being in the car. I might have to look into getting something for her to look at and I like the breast milk on a blanket idea. I've tried giving her water in a bottle and she won't drink it. Maybe I should try again. Maya also doesn't like lying in bed with me during the day, unless I am BF. But she will sleep on me if I am sitting upright. I think she just doesn't like lying down during the day!
Well.. for tomorrow I have made a much smaller goal for myself. Just to get out and go for a walk with her. Then anything else I achieve is just an extra plus!![]()
Itsme - You are welcome hun! Baby steps all the way, and even with the walk, don't set a time, just tell yourself at some stage you will get out and wait for the perfect time!![]()
OK quick ignorant question - why is sleeping on tummy easier than sleeping on their back - is it for digestive reasons or preference??
I think I am lucky with Z in the car - he hardly ever cries unless he has a bit of wind and a quick burb fixes that. Probably because he is distracted all the time with the other two in the back talking to him. I often ask the kids - is Zander awake or asleep cos he is so quiet!
We had child care end of year BBQ tonight, and Zander was so good, I think I am lucky in that he hardly ever cries unless wind or hungry, even when overtired he just gets a bit whoozy and a little grizzly, but he is my third so maybe it is cos I am more relaxed - or don't hear it!!
We are still b/f well - well today anyway LOL
Getting out of the house can be hard, but yes I agree with setting mini-goals. Another few months and you will be out walking at 7.30 and waiting for the shops to open at 9 etc - it really does get easier - as Tanstar suggested too, it is all about being organised as much as you can - always have the baby bag ready to go so you don't have to restock it etc, pram in car night before, even go so far as make a sandwich night before so you can eat on the run - as long as you can see some sunshine if it is around - good luck Itsme for tomorrow.
belfie - special mention - wooohooo our X/Z's are 2 months old today already![]()
