hi noni - i started giving her meals twice a day a couple of weeks ago - after the clinic nurse told me to.

for those of you interested - the new Practical Parenting magazine has an article about starting solids.

Just spoke with someone from Karitane, she said we are doing everything right in regards to sleeping issues and just stick with it. She seemed to think that the 7mth mark, when they are moving around and eating lots of solids is when all our issues will disappear!! We'll see.

Jaz - hope tonight goes better.

Fianne - I have heard the Ikea high chairs are good, shame our closest is 4 hours away! Where are you going for your holiday?

Someone at mothers group this morning suggested that during the day I move her arms and legs up and down like she is running. That will get the muscles going and wear her out a bit so she might sleep more. Worth a shot I suppose.

Better go, mum and dad are about to pop in on their way to a friends so better tidy up a bit.

Hi Cally - Does Katie like to move around in the bath? I find with Hannah, if i just put a little bit of water in the big bath and lay her on her back, she kicks and splashes alot - water goes absolutely everywhere lol. When i get her dressed she is usually exhausted.

sorry noni!!! if you scroll down a little, it just recommends starting between 6 and 9 months - it also gives you some tips on how to store and cook them.

So i'm not the only one having sleep problems? I had a feeling it might be an age thing!

jazmum - I love the idea of putting her in the bath and letting her have a good splash, I hope she likes it - Aurelia insists on sitting upright in the bath and whinges if you don't let her. But if she isn't being held maybe she'll enjoy it! Either way I'm going to give it a go.

noni, this is what we were told yesterday about starting and increasing solids/meals.
    you can do it slow....1 meal/day for 1st week. 2 meals/day for 2nd week. 3 meals/day for 3rd week.
    or fast....1 meal/day for M-W. 2 meals/day Th-Sa. 3 meals/day Su-Tu.
cally, we're going to the states for a family reunion. and while there, dp and i will walk down the flamingo chapel's aisle to say "i do"....dp in elvis outfit (he wants to)....and we decided to make it fun by making it a 70's themed one. not sure what i;m wearing yet. oh, guests have to come in 70's.

    Hi everyone!

Just a quick one from me - too tired and crap feeling to post. Paige had a great time at the Wiggles and was suitably awestruck that they were there 'really and truly' and not on TV - she sang and danced and really enjoyed the whole show. Alister behaved - slept through the first half of it and then jigged around watching the rest of the show.

Fingers crossed I might get an early night tonight.......

sherie, guess wiggles concerts will be what i've got to look forward to eh? glad they had fun.
baby sleeping problem/s.......don't think i really got it or got over it. i think that she ought to be sleeping longer but since i don't know any better, it hasn't been a 'real' problem iykwim.
speaking of sleeping, have finally bitten the bullet and put her in bed awake and let her put herself to sleep. am keeping to a routine of bath, feed, burp, read, bed. even if she'd just fed before the bath we still give her the bottle after bath. and we've been aiming for bed by 8. started this last friday. had mentioned to mothers grp at lunch that day that we tried and picked her up after 15 mins crying/grizzling and the other mums were saying 15 mins is nothing. 30 mins at least. so, we did that friday night. she cried for maybe 45 mins and then went to sleep. sat night, she had a 5-second grizzle and slept. maybe 5 mins sunday and 10 mins last night. hope things stays this way.

Whoooohoooo I won a portrait package for Rory Sooo excited! I had forgot I entered until I got the letter this afternoon!

Good news, I took Rory to the MCHN and he is just a tad under the 'average' weight. Yipeee! She was very happy with his progress.

Lots of Yays - for Renee for winning and for Leanne for getting some sleep! And for Sherie for the "live Wiggles" concert! Gotta love 'em!

Fingers crossed it stays that way with the sleeping, Fianne.

Cally, big big *hugs* you must be really worn out. I've posted in your other thread but will probably confuse the readers cos I referred to stuff in this thread LOL. Oh dear, that's what happens when you're interrupted in btwn reading and replying.

Pregpan, goodluck with your FDC interview. I had a whole list of stuff printed off that I used to consider but i couldn't find it for you, sorry. I will say though that you will know within a very short time if it feels right or not. I've walked away after some very short 'interviews' thinking 'not likely'! But the carers we've had I've known straightaway that they were 'right'.

Sorry, that's the extent of my memory today, I've used it all up waiting for my excruciatingly slow computer to load webpages. Desperate to get my work done now, I've got a huge assignment due next week and haven't even started it yet! Tried putting E into the high chair so she could sit up at the desk next to me and play while I worked which lasted for all of 15 mins! *sigh* DH is away too so no relief there.

Sounds like Max is getting into the routine fianne!

Cally - Maybe you could have a bath with her so she can kick in the water. I fill the bath right up and let him float on between my legs. He kicks in the water like a olympic swimmer haha. The resistance of the water really wears him out LOL!

Ive uploaded up recent pics of bugga lugs

Leemar - Glad to hear you finally got some sleep and that your eyes are on the mend.

Jazmum - I didnt end up getting a humidifier, she is pretty much over her cold now. I am going to keep my eye out for one, being in day care I'm sure during winter she will pick up a few more colds. Maddie loves kicking around in the bath too, water goes absolutely everywhere and I get soaked, but it is so much fun watching her kicking around and laughing. And it tires her out as well, perfect! I saw the solids article in practical parenting, love that mag.

Cally - Yeah the Ikea chairs are like $19.00, they arent much to look at, no colours etc, but I guess it will do the job? I have noticed at day care that they have a stack of them for the babies so if day care are using them, they cant be unsafe or anything I guess.

Fianne - LOVE your wedding idea, sounds like a heap of fun!!! Maddie has been starting to grizzle a bit when I put her to bed and she is the same with the grizzling one night for 15 mins and the next for 5. I just leave her be and she eventually falls asleep, its only if she works herself up that I go and shush her.

Sherie - Lol at Paige and the wiggles, how cute! Have you tried evening primrose oil on Alisters excema? Someone suggested it to me but I wasnt sure if it is safe for babies. I am taking Maddie to the GP on Friday, as it seems to be getting worse and I have noticed some mornings that she has been scratching it over night.

Renee - You lucky duck winning the portrait prize!! Professional photos are so expensive, I am planning on using the pixi photo vouchers that we got in the bounty bag to get a free pic every 6 months. Already done the first and going to collect it today. LOL I may sound like a real stinge, but apparently everyone does it!! My gosh are you dying in the heat this week, its horrible!!! Good news about Rory and his weight, doing well.

Marydean - I officially start uni tomorrow, I'm only doing one unit but I am so nervous about homework. I guess I will just do it at nights when Maddie is in bed, is that what you do too?

Far out I feel like I am constantly go go go...with work/daycare on Mon & Tues and organising everything else during the rest of the week. Not to mention starting uni on Thursdays now. AND looking after a bub! I'm wondering if its just that I have had so much to think about lately with the unit settling (we ran around like mad chooks on the weekend to fix items that the Buyers wanted fixing, only to call sett off on Tuesday because they werent happy with it) and trying to organise myself for uni and get Maddie into the creche. Does everyone else feel this way or have I taken on too much with work and uni??

OH for those of you using grobags, bloomandgrowdirect.com are having a 50% off sale on grobags. You can only buy 3 at a time, so I bought 3 under my name and 1 under my mums (hehe cheeky) for winter. The 3 I bought I got for $96 Aus dollars including postage!!!!!!!!!! Bargain.

    hello all
seems like i am saying this more and more but dp and i had another pretty big fight yesterday... asha had a bad day all day crying and winging and i left the room for 5 minutes to recollect myself and dp couldnt settle her so instead of asking me to come back he says to her 'mummy dosnt care ur upset' oh boy did he cop it from me!! so i apparantly dont deserve 5 minutes to myself and am a bad mother am i? he was so sorry but u know what sorrys not really good enough if u ask me for unloading ur issues onto your 5mth old grrrrrrrr!!!
anyways lost .7 at ww this morning, not bad not great.. considering i didnt go to the gym last night because i wasnt leaving asha with dp for obvious reasons!!
jazmum - thanks might hold off on the blueberries for now just to be safe and keep going with cereal in the morning and maybe some veges in the avo or something..
fianne - thanks for that, think we will take the slow option since shes only 5mths, after a week i might try some veges in the avo
haley - does seem like alot but its different for everyone, personally for me thatd be too much but it comes down to how you cope and how it all makes you feel do you feel happy with things this way?
renee - cute pics!! ive never let asha be in the bath with lil bit of water like that does he like it?
md - goodluck with the assignment!
sherie - glad the wiggles was good
