    hi girls!

well it has just hit 44 here and the 50-60km/hr winds are driving us all bonkers and now we have smoke curling through the sky from the bunyip fires (i think it must be from those ones...). we had a fire down the street today and the firies were here in record time. good on 'em! we live in a big massive parkland area so i guess they felt the need.

MD: ditch the water restrictions sista! our gov has told us to do whatever is necessary! shell pool is ready...
i'll do a rain dance with ya. man, i think i forgot what rain looks and smells like.

we too are waiting on the mythical cool change tonight.

MM: no we are not braving any beach style baths today. we are off to our local pool (called the brunswick baths...had some notoriety in the early 90s in a film called 'a death in brunswick'). they are old school 20s style.
woot woo on the bargain btw! i do like wayne cooper. i think it is the only thing paris hilton and i have in common.

hhmmm, forgot the rest of the thread. i hope rainy is ok. must be scary up there atm.

Clare you poor thing, hope the shop guy has got the slurpee machine going!! lol

Girls bit of a selfish post.

DP & I have been looking at hotels etc for our honeymoon, there is so much to do in Langkawi that we cant do due to having M with us. Snorkelling, water sports, night clubbing etc. I know his parents are dead keen to take M, I know she will be well looked after, its just the fact that we will be away from her for 10 days. I spoke to my parents, they wont be around so they cant take M which is ok. They said to go for it & take the in laws offer. What would you do!? I am also worried about what other people will think of me, ie she's a bad mum for leaving her 16 month old behind. Then I also worry that at 16 months, will M stress for us while we are away? Will she be confused & wonder what has gone on? Such a hard one.

I hope Rainy and Ange are doing ok in this heat and that there is no fires near Rainy. She is at her dads this weekend isn't she as DH is on a bucks weekend?

Clare I hope your managing to keep cool. I am usually a summer person but cant wait for winter this year.

MM I would be very tempted to leave her but totally understand why your unsure. It is definitely something to think about and discuss with DP (soon to be DH).

Hot one here to today but not like you guys down south are getting. Might have to get out the paddling pool I think. I hope everyone is managing to stay cool.

Yep DP thinks we should leave her, obviously its a hard decision for him to that he has put a lot of thought into. I would just hate for her to think she has been left behind by her parents. One thing good about her staying with the in laws over my parents, she knows them better as mine have been away for 6 months. Its just you all know what my in laws are like with the food...ahh!

Well I hope Rainy is off the hill & with her dad. Wouldnt want for her to be alone in this weather in case of fire. Feeling for Ange with the heat too!

If you leave her then it means you don't have to worry about her on the plane. Can you take over meals for her so they dont give her to much rubbish? If you leave her I don't think she will hold it against you when she is older lol.

Well Oz I think I may have finally gotten through to them on the junk food issue. The in laws are here today, well they have gone now, to the footy & have taken M & DP. They mentioned something about chicken & chips for tea, and I said well I'd actually prefer M eat her proper dinner before she leaves home, then she can have a few chippies but I just dont want chippies to be her tea for tonight. MIL was like yes you are right, so she had her healthy dinner at home and no doubt will get a few chips thrown her way but I made them all promise to limit the chips. & NO sugar under any circumstances, mind you I packed a couple of arrowroot cookies but I'd prefer that to lemonade or nougat!! So I think MIL is starting to understand, especially after I mentioned we are thinking of leaving M with them for the 10 days. She was over the moon as expected & maybe she is starting to realise that I dont have an issue with them caring for M, its more my attachement issues that worry me. & maybe its also she has realised that I am putting my faith in them & letting them take M, so maybe she should respect my wishes when it comes to junky food iykwim. Whoa I just rabbited on didnt I, sorry.

So I think its final, M will be staying at home with the in laws. Wish ME luck girls lol.

I had my hair trial today, paid $100, and its HORRIBLE, I look like Marge friggen Simpson. So unhappy so dissapointed so STRESSED as to how it will look on the day.

On a good note, we are going out tonight hitting the pubs & the in laws are staying to care for M.

MM: i'd probably take the offer although the food thing is a bit of an issue, i am sure that once they have got over the initial 'spoils', it'll settle down fine. as for MM, yeah she may be a bit confused at times, but kids are sooo resilient. you guys should go and enjoy a lovely dovely honeymoon; you only get 'em once (or so that's the idea anyway LOL!).

we are also leaving miss L with the ILs when we go to italy for a week. she hasn't met them yet, so we are planning on staying 2 weeks there and then leaving her in the 3rd and coming back for the 4th week ITMS. bit nervous as she hasn't met them, but man, i have been hanging out for a honeymoon for almost a year now LOL!

well we had our hottest day today. 46.4. tad warm. although at the pool today the temp gauge peaked at 47. it was disgustingly hot. we only stayed 40 odd minutes in the water as the wind was squalling burning hot wind, there was tonnes of smoke in the air from the fires and the pool was full of debris and dirt from the wind. gross. leila loved it, although i had one moment of panic as she fell face forward in the toddler pool and sunk like concrete. i dive bombed onto her though LOL! she was a bit shocked at first, but then thought it was awesome and tried to do it again and again (i swear i'll be grey by the time she is 2!)

but the cool change came through soooo fast! i couldnt believe it. one minute i am literally being blown by 50km/hr hot hot wind, then it suddenly changes direction and i have goosebumps and headed inside for a HOT shower!! weird.

MM woo hoo on the food breakthrough. Oh that sux that your not happy with your hair, did you have a photo of what you wanted?? Have a drink for me tonight.

Clare I have been thinking about all you girls down south all day. Especially Rainy and Ange. I hope none of you are affected by the fires or smoke. yay on finally heading on a honeymoon. All this talk of holidays is making me crave one.

Had a quiet day today but we are off to the beach tomorrow morning before coming home to get this bomb site we call a home cleaned up. Felling bored already tonight.

hi girls just wanted to let you all know i'm ok. our area did ok today. there is a fire on the mountain but it's on the otherside to us. i'm at dad's house and we can smell major smoke from bunyip fires and yarra valley fires.
ange is away this weekend but there are fires out her way so hopefully her property is ok.
i've been having braxton hicks all day and lots of pain. lewis has been going crazy at dad's. we took him down to the local shops and my brother and his girlfriend happened to be there having a coffee and looked across the foodcourt and saw lewis bolting across from one side to the other with my dad chasing him. he's so naughty!!! now he has spent all day putting remote controls in washing machines and rolls of toilet paper down the toilet etc. fun!
i have been so incredibly hot, i sat on the couch eating icypoles watching the sex and the city movie on foxtel.
hope everyone else is doing ok in the heat.

Yay for the cool change coming through Clare, I hope you get it soon Rainy. I was just looking at the temps at the airport there and it didn't look like it had come through as it was still over 30, but when you started at 46, that is a cool change!!

Rainy - hope the BH calm down soon. Just have to get through until Monday!

MM - 10 days is a while, but I reckon she will be fine. As to the food, one night of her bouncing off the walls after they dose her up with sugar and they won't be doing it again!! Anyway, if she is there that long I would be very surprised if they fed her rubbish the whole time. I'd give them some menu plans, ie what she normally eats each day for brekkie, lunch and dinner. Did you talk it through with the hairdresser afterwards? Can you make some changes?

Well I am currently wondering where DH is. No phone call. And of course he doesn't believe in mobiles so I can't call him. He headed off to cricket, muttered something about the new maths teacher having some people around, but he wouldn't be going because he would be all yucky after cricket. He is usually very thoughtful and freaks out if I am 15 minutes home and yet does this every now and then - super frustrating. Might just go to bed and leave the monitor on his side as a reminder for whenever he does get home that it's my sleep in turn tomorrow!

    Good morning everyone,
Hannah is having an early morning sleep, so i thought i'd take the opportunity and catch up.
Cally - what time did your dh end up getting home? Did you get a nice sleep-in this morning?
Clare, Rainy and Ange - I don't know how you're all coping with those dreadful temperatures. I don't think i'm going to complain about the heat again.
Rainy - sounds like things are happening...... I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I hope your home stays safe
Oz - I hope you're enjoying a wonderful morning at the beach (hope you don't get too much sand in your pants
MM - sounds like a good plan to leave M with your in- laws. It will be hard for you, but years down the track she won't even remember that you left her. I'm pretty sure Renee left Rory home when she went away with Dwayne. Maybe check with her and see how she coped.

hi to everyone else too - i hope you're all happy and healthy

    Hi girls!!

MM: somehow i missed your post about the hair trial! OMG! what are you going to do? can you try somewhere else? or was more the style than the stylist? be an awful bride-to-be if you have to!!! you want to fell like a million bucks on the day as it is the one chance to go 'all out' iykwim.

Cally: hpe your DH is ok and made it home in good order. i'd be cranky pants if that were me LOL!

MD: how was it in adelaide yesterday? it was also in the 40s??

Ange: was thinking of you yesterday, i hope and pray that you guys are ok.

Rainy: the same goes for you guys, keep safe

AFM: well we had a shocker night last night. poor miss L was i think in shock from the day. she drank two full sippy cups f water around midnight and cried on and off all night (you the every 20-30 mins kinda stuff). she is good this morning and the cool change is amazing! i usually love summer and really hot weather but with a bub it is a whole new ballgame as i can't disappear for a cinema day LOL!
the sky yesterday down here was amazing. the first layer was this orange pink colour from the smoke and above that were the most amazing cumulus clouds and dark storm skyline. it looked apocolyptic.
i can't believe that so many ppl lost their lives in the fire yesterday. it was nightmarish to see this kind of weather extreme. i have been in floods and cyclones and trapped in a bushfire, but this was just immense - covering pretty much the whole state.

    Have been so slack! ...

Quick update before I try & catch up ...

Today Jack has decided to accomplish a new milestone. He is climbing out of his cot, with the side fully up, & everytime I put him back he screams.
Had swimming lessons yst & I took take seperately cos my friend couldn't make it & then I took Alex. They haven't had lessons for a few weeks but I guess all the pool visits & the beach visits have been paying off cause they both did really well. Jack amazed me by standing on the edge & jumping in (holding mum's fingers tho).
Went to the beach last week & the boys loved it.

Hope everyone is surviving this heat ... bbl xox

Wow Andie - I thought my Hannah was a climber! That's scary stuff! My cousin's little boy (who is almost 2) started doing that last week - he's now in a toddler bed.
that's fab that they love the pool. Well done Jack for jumping to Mummy off the step

Geez Clare - by the sounds of it you've been through alot that Mother Nature has dished out. Trapped in a bushfire .... sounds incredibly scary.

Hi all, in a bit of shock today re the bushfires, couldn't sleep last night for a long time for thinking of it. Rainy posted in the Heat and Bushfires thread earlier this am, apparently Ange is ok, her house caught on fire but was saved, but they've lost two of their gorgeous dogs. I can't imagine what it would be like to go home to a town which has been completely razed over the space of a couple of hours. I'm not sure if Rainy knows if her area is completely safe or not as yet either. So sending love and s to both of you. xxxxxxxx

Rainy, sounds like your birthing time is drawing near! You know we're all thinking of you and wishing you a blessed and empowered birth. xxx

Clare, glad the weather is cooling down for you. Ah I hear you on the good old cinema days (my last refuge in high summer/Build Up Season in Darwin) LOL. Yep it was hot here with a blasting wind (and I was a bit nervous mid-morning as there was smoke in the air and we're not really that far from bushland) but we had a cool change hit just after midday, so it gradually cooled down until about 10 pm when we finally turned the aircon off. My poor little old double-brick construction house takes a while to cool down - can't wait to get my evaporative air installed!

Andi LOL at Jack's milestone, you are going to have to put the side down now~ Little monkey LOL.

Thanks for the update MD, I hope Ange is OK through all this and is coping the best she can with all the stress and anxiety she's no doubt dealing with.

Glad to hear you're safe too G

Just a quick post cause I have sweat literally rolling down my legs LOL.

Hi gals, as you know weren't home yesterday. Entire farm burnt, but they managed to put our house out, not sure how much damage yet as we can't get in. We do know we lost one dog, one is missing and 4 are ok. 1000's of cattle without food, water or fences. So so sad. Other parts of the farm still under threat.

Two friends lost everything, one friend and her family we can't get hold of, two friends waiting to hear the fate of their house.

Pretty upsetting and stressful times. I have come to mum and dad's house with DD for the night. DH still up there trying to get into house. Hoping to head up tomorrow.

Thanks for thinking of us. Be back when i can. Sorry to be so brief.
