Hotaru - enjoy your newborn photo session. Hope J behaves and you get some good photos!

Dory - I just read your post about our freaky matching birthdates!! Woah... *cue twighlight zone music*

Sounds like our babies are going through an unsettled patch as they get used to life on the outside. Also, the day night cycles being all messed up. I know my little one can sleep for long stretches its just during the day and not at night! It took DS1 a good month to sort out his sleep schedule so I expect this with DS2.

I've also got a nice chesty cough I just can't shake. DH has it too and I think DS1 is getting it. Hoping that I don't have to go on antibiotics.. The cough is getting looser, lots of phlegm.. Hopefully that's a good sign.

Anyhoo, hope you all have a wonderful day with your babies

Ok check this post out! It may take me hours to type but I'm not leaving until I have posted properly to my lovely babies born ladies! Lol.

Little o- I'm happy with log in only. Thanks for your words, I'm slowly getting there, I'm sure when I have a second to think i will write it down. We are definitely looking into formula and bottle options if our plan doesn't work (see afm)

Lulu- hope your little one is a but less congested now and has been able to settle in for you.

Bubba- your poor little guy. Hope your going ok now, hopefully once your all healed up, which should definitely be NOW after the luck youve had, x will be more settled because his mumma is!

Br- oh no! Hope the cough goes quickly from your house. What horrible timing! Lol @ feeding and bathing, super mum, da da da daaaaaa!

Dory- how's G doing at home? I agree with you, I miss my ds. With so much going on I feel like I have hardly seen him, let alone cuddles or anything like that. Lol at your rookie mistake, ds has been so buggered by the time he sleeps, which isn't until we do at the moment, even tho he is in his bed and room, his not asleep, we don't hear anything until the morning from him.

Mc- good luck with your MIL, and if she gets too much tell her your bb girls will get her! Lol. Keep napping!

Hotaru- great idea with the bassinet! Especially the heat bag, never even thought of that.

Afm- had the mchn come visit us yesterday, and she had an idea of what could be upsetting ds2 so much. Apparently there is a membrane of fluid that protects the babies spine and spinal cord when they are newborns. This membrane is anchored to the spine at the neck and at the base. Now, when a baby is born in an extremely quick labour (or a really really prolonged labour) they can puncture this membrane at either or both anchor point by rushing out too quickly and upset the balance of the membrane. Now, what this can cause is uneven cushioning for them, and also uneven nerve signals being sent all over the body. One way of testing for this is to lift the babies arms in a semi circle from their side up above their head. When she did this to ds2 his left arm only went up half way ,I nearly cried. I also nearly cried when I was explaining how unsettled he has been as I said to her 'i just want him to be able to wake up once without being in pain. He is always waking screaming in pain. It's horrible. ' anyway back to the point. This membrane issue thing, (can you tell I haven't been able to find anything online about it lol) causes the baby to not be able to get comfortable, arching their back trying to relieve the pressure, a lot of stomach problems as the messages are getting mixed so their may be too much or not enough juices in there at any one time, preferring to lie on one side, preferring on their tummy or on your chest so pressure is off their back. So ds2 ticks every single one of these boxes. Also we worked out he could be having alot more formula than he is, we keep forgetting his a big baby, lol, so we are upping his feeds in the next few days, if that doesn't improve things, as it can sometimes fix itself, then we are off to the baby chiro to get his back fixed.

Also we have our SIL and two nieces, 7yrs and 6 mths, staying with us in our spare room, no idea for how long, but ds1 had a horrible day yesterday, his cousin is his most favourite person in the whole world, and with all the other changes going on, he just went feral for the day having her here. She is at school today and he seems more calm, so hopefully yesterday was just a combination of everything.

Now if you followed that you are amazing and clearly getting too much sleep for someone with a newborn. Lol.

Will be back later for personals but just wanted to say to ebn_d that it might be worth checking your little man out for dairy protein intolerance - you may need to switch formulas. You described a lot of the issues my DD1 had, and she is dairy protein and gluten intolerant. Might be worth raising it with your paed. Its so heartbreaking watching them in so much pain.

Baxk for some persies

BR - How did your newborn shoot go? Will it be long til you get your pics? Hope that cough disappears from your house quickly. Thats the last thing you need right now.

Dory - It must be hard on all you 2nd/3rd/4th time mums. As hard as it is now just remember it will get easier and everyone will adjust, it's just a new kind of normal, but you also have every right to feel like you do. I guess it's kind of grieving of what was.

Dantri - How are you settling in with Miss G?

Lulu - Hope your DH is giving you some relief from his snoring now, I think I snore more than my DH lol. How is L going? Still clogged up? Hope the feeding is a bit less painful for you now too.

EBN - have you ended up writing your birth story? I am more than happy to read it if you feel like sharing? Sounds like you are really doing thingd tough at the moment. Poor Little DS2, sounds like the mchn was right onto it though. Will you wait long before trying the chiro?

Milly - How are you and DD2 getting settled?

Little O - I have no advice obviously on the mastitis but a big hug from here, I can't even imagine how painful that must be for you. What does the log in only thing mean? I would rather not so public as we share a fair bit of info so just tell me if I have to do something different

mchope - you have X on formula right? Is it by any chance a "premium" one (eg S26 Gold)? My sis gave me some advice when X went to formula and that was that she found the S26 Gold made her DD really unsettled about an hour after the start of a feed. She changed to the standard formula (plain S26) and waahla problrm solved. We are finding the same thing (see AFM) Anyway just thought I might suggest it, incase it helps.

Hotaru - I had to smile at the high fiving after you get the little one down to sleep, we have done that too. How did the photo shoot go?

AFM - X had a horrible night last night. He woke for his 6pm feed as normal and obviously couldnt move his gas. He was like a big ball of gas that just would never end. We managed 2 x 20 minute naps but then he was up again, finally DH got him to sleep at 2am this morning. He seems like a new baby today though He woke earlier and was so happy not even vrying for a nappy change and feed. We set up his playgym/floor mat thingy and he had his first ever playtime on the floor. The dogs were so cute, they sat at the side of the playmat and just watched him to make sure DS was ok and that there was no spare toys they might play with lol. Hoping the new formula is successful as we only changed over last night but so far so good.

I weighed myself today out of curiosity and I weigh 3kg less than I did before I got pregnant!! I think that is the only thing I am grateful to the GD for lol. Hopefully I can shed some more. Anyway better go before you all fall asleep reading this long post Time to spam FB with more pics of my beautiful little man

I am just jumping on for a quick much needed vent! To save me from screaming out loud! it's been 2 days & my MIL is driving me crazy already! I feel like snapping "just give me my baby!" I feel like I can't say anything to DP coz it's his mum, & he also gets on the defensive about it! Argh, bring on Sunday!!!

Hang in there mc!! And vent away here!

AFM - I'm on antibiotics for my chesty cough. I sound like I'm coughing up internal organs and I keep startling L when I am nursing and coughing. I'm actually feeling fine just exhausted from all the coughing! DS1 is at daycare today and it is bliss just having L to take care of. I've managed to clean the kitchen, empty the dishwasher, get some groceries, do a load of laundry, shower, eat, and sort out DS1's older toys into a box as he had a birthday last weekend and got some new toys to play with. Now relaxing watching TV waiting for L to wake. I'm tempted to put DS1 into Daycare 3 days a week instead of 2 days just so I can have more days like this. Daycare is so good for DS1 and he loves going so much. Yesterday I asked what he wanted to do today and DS1 said 'play ball with Sashi..' (Sashi being one of his carers). So cute.

Anyhoo, I'm still trying to get a home visit with the home nurse for L... Not having much luck. Waiting for someone to call me back. Frustrating as it should have been done within the first couple of weeks already... Ah well.

L is still sleeping better during the day and waking more often at night but I know that will sort itself out eventually. DH has been great. He gets up and changes L's nappy then brings him to me in our bed so I can nurse him.

BubbaT - yay on the weight loss!! I'm down 9kg and have 4 more to go before I'm at my pre-preggo weight. Hoping that the nursing helps me lose some more though. Sorry to hear X was unsettled. Hopefully he's feeling a little better now and can settle more easily

Ebn - interesting about the quick labour causing probs with a newborn. I had never heard of that before. Hope M gets better soon. When does your full house become less full? I'm having the same issues with my DS1 re some changes in behavior. One of the reasons why were keeping him in daycare but it is expensive . PM me if you want to talk in private about how our sons are handling the new additions. I didn't realise how much easier it was to have just a newborn at home!! Haha

Hi ladies, sorry for my selfish vent post yesterday! I felt much better after getting my frustration out! I had a day to myself today, which was good. I just woke from a nap with my little man and I think we're about to venture out for our first trip to do the food shopping!

Bubba - Yep I have my X on formula - he's on Nan Gold. My sister and a couple of girlfriends advised me to steer clear of s26 because they found it constipated their bub's. They all suggested Caricare funnily enough. But thanks for the suggestion . X seems to be going along good now, I don't think his reflux is to do with the formula, more likely the little piggy tries to gulp down his feeds! lol.
Woohoo for the weight loss! I have dropped 8kgs since my CS - which I was amazed at, considering X was small! So only 5kgs to go for me to get back to pre-baby weight .

Ebn - How are things with your little boy now? Seeing them in pain would be heartbreaking! I bawled when they did the heel ***** test and little Xman got so distraught!

Hotaru -
Mc_hope - our strategy last night was (on the combined advice of our neighbours) to chock one end of the basinette up so it's not totally flat and we put a heated up wheat bag in where J will sleep to pre warm it so he doesn't notice the difference between our body temps and the basinette. Not sure where that fits in terms of being the right thing to do but it seems to work at nights for the moment. Days are totally different!
Thanks lovely, I chocked one end of the bassinet up tuesday night and Im not sure if that made a difference or if his reflux settled as he seemed to keep all feeds down, yay. Thats a good tip about heating his little bed area up before putting him there, I might just try it!
How did the newborn photos go?!

Dory - the restriction towards Hb would be hard! I missed being able to have snuggles or pick up my little nephew, let alone it being my own kid! Hugs to you xx How is Miss G, has the nights settled at all for you yet?

AFM, settling into this mummy thing quite well I think X has his first visit from the community care nurse tomorrow and will be weighed! I am curious to see what the little piggy has put on, his feeds have been increasing slowly. Night times are getting better, I took the advice (I think it was from BR) about light being day and dark being night. So now at bedtime I try and keep the lights off for feeds and nappy changes. I think its helped as X slept for 3.5hrs between feeds last night!
The MIL is only here til Sunday, so I just have to keep reminding myself of that when I get frustrated. I know she's only here for a week and she won't hardly see him as she lives interstate, its just hard as she's one of those "I used to" "you should" kind of people. And to top it off, I haven't really had much to do with her before bub was here so there wasn't any real pre-existing relationship/friendship IYKWIM. Maybe in time it will get better...

So I have had breakfast and a cuppa, my antibiotics and blood thinners, fed and washed a baby and he is back asleep and I only got up an hour and a half ago.

How have I managed all this you ask??? Well I had a full nights sleep 10pm til 730am!! DH did the midnightish feed and X didn't go back down til 2am (he had a very restless day yesterday) and he didn't wake til 730am. 5 and a half hours!!!
We have noticed X has gone through a growth spurt which according to google is quite normal at 3 weeks, he is barely fitting in his 0000 clothes now. Time to pull out all the 000's

Have a lovely day everyone and I hope all your bubba's sleep as well as mine is right now

Hello mummies!!!

Sorry I haven't popped in to this thread before now - man this parenting gig is hard work lol!

I cant believe my little cherub Matilda-Rose is 2 weeks old today -crazy! We've had windy pain challenges too - its heartbreaking to see your little one in so much pain isn't it! Matilda Sleeps really well during the day but we have had shocking nights! I've certainly shed some tears this week. Also, Matilda has a dislocatable hiP and is in a brace - more tears shed over this. Hopefully she'll only need brace on for 8 weeks and will be all better. My mum has been staying with us this week and DH is at work but DH is on 2 weeks leave as of this arvo, so Im sooooo looking forward to have him home for the next fortnight. He is such a wonderful daddy and is such a calming influence on his girls!

I'm on my mob at the moment with DD having bunny snuggles on my chest so will pop back later to do new signature/ ticker and persies! Thanks so much for sharing such personal stories and being so supportive. I cannot even tell you how much better I feel now that I've had a chance to pop on here and see that I'm not alone with the challenges I'm facing - was really starting to doubt myself as a mum!!!

Have a great day with your precious Bubs ladies!

Hi ladies,

sorry to have been MIA .... I had tried to post a few times, but ended up deleting them instead. I have been reading all your posts though. forgive me if I get names mixed up on the persies... (oh so tired....)

BubbaT - you deserve a medal for surviving X birth! That nasty midwife deserves a complaint - just reading your story, my brain was ticking over of the things that could have been wrong, even I was thinking "kidney pain". and thanks for asking about me.

Ebn - how is your little man doing? that sounds terrible, fortunately my DD2 seems OK after her rapid entry, it's just mum that is sore and sorry (still very sore perineum, and zero pelvic floor to speak of, and I thought I had wee-wee troubles in pregnancy!!!). I noticed that on DD2 "blue book" they wrote as a complication "precipitous labour" which I hadn't heard of - basically it means <3hours and is considered a complicated labour because of the additional risks to mum and bub. After reading that I felt a bit more validated, but they didn't discuss that in the hossy with me!!

Embo - DD1 was in a harness too. it is hard work. There is a thread here on the forums for hip dysplasia, if you can't find it, PM me and I'll send you the link. DD1 is now fine, and considered "normal" so FX for your little one too! DD2 has to have a scan at 12 weeks just to confirm (they did exam at birth, and seemed OK).

Dory - hugs for not being able to hug HB, that must be so hard.

We too have had some windy pains here - I can vouch for the chocking up one end of the basinette - did it for DD1 and have now done it again. The other issue I had this time was engorgement (undersupply with DD1) and DD2 ended up with too much foremilk and gassy poos, but that has started to settle as my supply has settled.
I forget who said it before about which way the babies suck and the ducts they empty, but it is their chin end which does the sucking, so if you hold them "madonna hold" they are sucking from the inner/towards the centre ducts. If you have a blockage on the outer ducts (towards the armpits) then you need to spin them to twin/football hold.

I have been struggling a bit - DD1 isn't coping too well with being a big sister. How are you other 2nd time mum's and your No1's coping? DD1 alternates between being interested, and throwing the biggest tantrums. She accepts that I hold and feed DD2, but DH isn't even allowed to hold or touch DD2 without DD1 throwing a huge hissy fit, she has always been "daddy's girl" but she doesn't like me very much at the moment. not quite sure how to manage this?????

sorry to all the other ladies who I haven't mentioned, but hello! I think that is the end of my attention span at the moment...

Milly - my labour is down as 'precipitate ' as well, so after googling I felt a bit more validated too. Also as for having the older child, our ds was handling it not too bad, not paying too much attention but giving him a kiss or saying hi if we drew his attention him. Nights were tough as ds2 was usually crying at ds1's bedtime and ds1 would think we weren't looking after him or something so the first few nights he would come in our room for the 10-11 pm feed, to see we were looking after him, but then be ok to go back to his bed and he would then sleep. But with all the other disturbances around at the moment his gone back a little. Except today he did help me change ds2 nappy, handing me wipes etc and then afterwards he lied down and talked to his brother for a minute without prompting, its actually the first time he has done anything like that, it was so cute.

Afm - had a big cry to myself this morning, ds2 woke up screaming, and I couldn't settle him, and the position he got comfy in, he passed out straight away, and it was the most weirdest position ever, like a position a newborn shouldn't be comfortable in. So I just sat there in my bed holding him so he was comfy balling my eyes out. My poor bubba is in pain, and it's causing these things, and I can't do anything, it's not fair on the little guy. But anyway got my cry out so now it's onto google to find out if there is anything we can be trying before we resort to the chiro.

Sorry, got our niece here as well as ds1 and ds2 so will come back later for more persies. Hope all you mummas and bubbas are doing great.

Hi all - just checking in. We are still in hospital, having a bit of trouble with feeding but seem to be good aside from that.

DH & I are completely smitten with Alice, it's so amazing to have her here. Late at night though I get freaked out when I can't feel the baby in my belly sometimes, haha.

This morning we are having extended skin to skin. She's been passed out on top of me for nearly 2.5 hours so far. DH and I are now working off the philosophy "if she isn't crying, don't change what you're doing!" hahaha!

Hope you're all well, I'll go back and read through this thread when I'm home most likely, so I can give it the attention it deserves!

Hi lovely mums. I'm so sorry my posts have been nonexistent for personals and this will be another one, but I've been reading and will try to do personals from now on.

Just want to say to Milly that its hard when you have to divide your attentions between your baby that has been so used to having mum and dad all to him/herself and suddenly a little intruder comes along. My two being quite a bit older are not too bad, but they are getting very frustrated with me almost constantly saying that I can't do X with them because I'm feeding Lexie, pacing the floor while she's unsettled etc. The only thing I'm finding working is promising them that once their dad is around we will do something special together, like make cakes, do craft etc. It becomes the time that my DH has cuddles with Lexie, and the girls get time back with me. All I can suggest if your LO is not happy with daddy's attention going elsewhere that maybe he makes a huge fuss of her when he first gets home, and then gradually you try and get between them with a suggestion of something special you can do with your DD, and then your hubby can take over with bub. HTH

Things have been very up and down with us - more down than up until yesterday. Lexie is still really struggling with a cold so for the last week or so has been incredibly unsettled with long screaming sessions that go for hours during the morning/middle of the day, and then start again at about 3am. She will eventually fall asleep between about 6 and 7am, and then sleep until 9.30 am or so, which would be great if I could sleep too but I have to get up and get I and E organised for school. I'm getting nothing done around the house because I can't put her down except when she's dead asleep so that's when I try to do as much as I can. Luckily yesterday she was much more settled and touch wood, seems to be today as well so I'm hoping maybe she's turned a corner. We're still having massive attachment issues so feeding is so hard (blocked nose isn't helping her the poor love), and the breast pump that I ordered got returned to the seller because the courier damaged it, so I'm still waiting and trying to hand express as much as I can to get rid of all the blocked ducts I'm getting. I've seen three LCs now and they have all given me different things to try to get A to latch better but nothing is working very well yet. The one I saw on Thursday said that she's still very young and expects that in time things will improve - I hope so because feeds are pretty unpleasant a lot of the time.

Beautiful weather here today - pretty much the first time since Lexie was born so I'm off to take my gorgeous girl and puppy dog for a walk in the sunshine. I hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

ETA: Sorry - forgot to say can all the newer mums please do me a post of their LO's birthdate and name so I can update our list - its horribly out of date now and I don't want to leave anyone out. Thanks lovelies.
