Jelly - I dont think it is selfish at all, you need to do what is right for you both! Tiah is very fussy at the moment as well and I can only feed her when we can have a quiet, private place to do it because I have to get my entire boob out and she comes on and off my nipple the entire feed. I read that breast fed babies have dramatic increases in appetite during growth spurts and this can make them extra fussy as well? All that aside... I had tiny little bobies before having her... and even though they are bigger now, they are not so big that they make feeding awkward.... my mum told me she had to give up breastfeeding in the end because her boobs were just too big and it wasnt a nice experience for her or her babies! I think the most important thing for Adrian is that his mummy is happy, so do what will make you happy!

Con - Oh dont get me started about DP and his damn shed! He had a car part delivered the other day and I was so rude to the poor delivery guy, but it was just the last straw for me... after a long day of dealing with Tiah with NO help from him because he was in his shed.... I answer the door in my trackies to find a smiling guy delivering MORE car parts?!?!?!?! I also cannot get through to him that when she is tired and it is time for her nap.... him trying to play with her is not helping anyone! He will swoop in after I have her settled in the cot.... and try and play freaking peak a boo with her! Then when I tell him that isnt a good idea... he sooks because "I can't do anything right". I dont know how he doesnt understand that coming to play with her hours after I actually needed the help is not the right thing to do!

    Re: Babies Born ~ March 16th-31st 2010 #2

Con and meercat - that's no good about your DH's... I have the opposite problem. My DH is still on leave and doesn't go back to work until the 12th of July. He drives me insane cometimes!! My Mum is the same Meercat - she tries to play with Angus before bed and I really have to bite my tongue. Even if I say anything, she doesn't believe me until she sees it for herself. For example, she used to dissmiss the whole wrapping thing until she was looking after him on her own and he kept startling himself awake. It works the same with DH...

Jellymaker - don't feel bad about the bf issues. I just don't feel that comfortable breastfeeding, so I'm not sure how long it will last. It will be healthier for you and bub if it is more of a positive and bonding experience. If your worried about it, then your milk will also be reduced. If you feel strongly about it you could always express some and feed breastmilk at least once a day...

    Hey ladies!

I haven't been getting any notifications for some reason, so have lots to catch up on!

Con & Meercat - good luck to getting your DH's to help out a bit more, or be more helpful with the bubs. I was a bit worried that my DH would be like that as he's never had the slightest bit of interest in anyone else's bubs until they are old enough for him to play with. I was sooooo wrong, as he is so good with Fraser. He's working heaps extra at the moment to help us out financially, but when he comes in, he's straight over to Fraser to spend some time with him and asking if he needs a nappy change, etc. It's so good!

Jelly - do what is right for you. Just remember that it's not always as simple as just deciding to bottle feed - I have a friend who desperately wants to wean but her DD will only take the boobie.

Nat82 - glad you found a house that's more suitable. I know what it's like not having any family close - mine and DH's are all on the other side of the world and haven't even met Fraser yet.

Beata - I'd def recommend seeing a physio about Cam's neck. You may need a referral from a paed. Fraser is fully turning his head to both sides now, with no preferred side. The damage is still done as he does have a large flat spot, but we did everything that we could to prevent it. I'm not going to beat myself up about it any more.

    Hi to everyone else!

As for us, we've had a few unsettled days. Fraser has now decided that he wasts fed on demand, which is sooooo not good. Saturday and Sunday, we were out trying to get DH a new ute (a dual cab so Fraser can go in) about half an hour from home. About 10 mins into the journey home, he starts screaming and I mean really screaming!!!! We're on the Freeway so it's not like I can just pull over and feed him. Plus we're only 20 mins from home! It was awful - he was so upset that he could hardly breathe. On Friday, he was only taking dribs and drabs of a feed all day. I was chatting to my mum on Skype and I had to keep stopping to give him 30-40 mls whenever he felt like it. We went through this at about weeks 6-8, which we put down to a growth spurt, so I think this may be the same. The other sore point is that he was only getting up once through the night to feed (at about 1-2 am) but he has now reverted back to waking three times a night! It's exhausting! Fingers crossed it won't last.

On a positive note, Fraser is almost rolling over. He brings his legs half way up over his belly and rolls from side to side, laughing so hard! It's soooooo cute! He's also properly full-on grabbing everything now - usually his toys, my hair, my clothes, anything that is beside him while he is getting his nappy changed (so have to get rid of the nappies immediately now!!). It's so funny how they have the instinct that everything goes to the mouth!

    Hi Everyone

Con and Meercat, I hear you on the DP/DH not helping out very much. My DP has days where he's super helpful and on others it's like he barely even sees him. Night shifts don't help but at the same time : /

Jelly, happy mummy means happy baby.

Mia, hope Fraser settles down for you again. Harri has fussy days but I think that's because of teething?

Nat, Hope the house works out and enjoy the time with your mum

Hi to everyone else, hope it's all going well.

AFM...Harrison rolled over today!! He has been rolling from tummy to back for a while now but today he went back the other way and rolled from back to tummy. He was so pleased with himself lol. We did some painting today, rather I painted Harri's feet and put them on paper to send down to my family, so now he has blue feet.

    Hey Ladies,

Don't forget.....BIG TOY SALE AT BIG W THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

Misssawah- oh, Harri is so clever! Grace is no-where near rolling!

Mia- I hope Fraser settles down for you again. Yay on him nearly rolling over.

Meercat- LOL! It is really frustrating sometimes! The annoying thing is mummy does all the work when they are little, and when they get a bit older they turn into daddy's girls! How does that work??? LOL!

Nat- It's funny how mum's always think what you done when you were a baby is what your baby will do now! My mum is a bit the same!

Jelly- like everyone has said, do what is right for you. It's no good for either of you to be trying to do something your not comfortable with.

Hi to everyone else! Where are you all??

Afm- We just found out my brothers little girl (6months old) has German measles and was over here with Grace at the time she was contageous.......hmmmm.......Grace is getting sick of me undressing her and checking for a rash! She seems okay though. No signs of anything yet! *fingers crossed*

Meercat, big hugs sweetie! You really must feel like a zombie after getting up hourly!! Hopefully Tiah will sleep for a good while tonight. It's so bloody cold here too, I switch off our heater around 11 pm so it's bearable during the night. I was actually going to put mittens on Cam's hands the other night, they were frozen whe I got up for his 5 am feed!! Doesn't help that I don't wrap him and he likes his hands right up to his face

Con, hope wee Grace doesn't get the measles!! I'm sure she'll be fine

Hi to everyone else, too tired to go through all the posts tonight......sorry! Off to bed, hope everyone is good. Will catch up with you all soon

    good morning everyone

sorry its been awhile but thought i better do a bigger post today

been busy here. DH's grandfather passed away last friday night and we had the funeral on tuesday. we took Hamish with us as it was an hour away from where we live and we spent the day with this family. well this older gentlemen fainted at the funeral (it was really hot in the chapel and he had multiple clothes on) so i attended to him and DH took Hamish so i could have my hands free. well poor Hamish was passed from person to person who thought it was great fun to all get a cuddle while i was busy. by the time i got him he had just woken up and looked grumpy. anyway everytime someone looked at him after that he cried and had tears and was really unsettled and the only way i could settle him was to go outside where no one was. it was so damn annoying cos everyone was just in his face the whole time. i ended up saying to DH's mum to just leave him alone. she was the worst!! really made me angry!!! he is not a toy for goodness sake!!! grrrr.

anyway other then that not much else happening here. hamish is busy trying to roll over but i think the toys on his playmat arre much more exciting lol. he is on 3 solid meals a day now too. i had to put him on it as he was going thru so much milk!! i was giving him a bottle every hour, hour and a half!! hungry boy!!

    hope everyone else is well

missawah - yay for harri rolling over!

meercat - i hope u get some sleep soon

Hey ~b~ - r u ok? See u hav binned FB - hope all well!

Teresa - that's awful - you wonder why some people don't realise how much passing a baby from person to person can affect them. How is Hamish going with the solids?

Meercat - I hope Tiah's nighttime routine settles down for you soon!

Con - how is Grace? Any sign of the German measles? I hope not!

All is going pretty well for us at the moment (touch wood). Fraser's feeding has settled down a bit, but he now wants fed 3 hourly, which ain't that great! He won't take any more at each feed but it doesn't seem to last him through til the next feed. We're actually getting him to take about 210 ml per feed (which with our formula is 180 ml of water and the rest is the formula powder) which is more than he was taking before, so I'm not too worried. Hopefully, his little tummy is stretching that bit more, and we will get more into him slowly but surely. He has been sleeping better at nights, only waking once, which is great - I can handle that! Think we may try him on the baby rice cereal again next week when he hits the 4 month mark. We got the Rafferty's one this time which has puree in it also!

    ummm.......where is everyone?????

mia- no sign of the measles, but grace has her first cold...poor little thing! I hope Fraser likes the new rice cereal! Is that just from the supermarket? I haven't heard of that one before!

Meercat- Is tiah sleeping better now? Waking every hour would be exhausting!

Beata- I hope Cameron is doing well!

Teresa- Sorry about dh's grandfather. My sister was snuggling Grace one day in town so i went to get some lunch, when i come back she had handed her to someone else, who handed her to someone else, who handed her to someone else...etc. All of these women i barely knew and they were all in her face! I was really annoyed...snuggles are special for people whom i know and trust...not just anybody who wants to hold a baby! grrrr. Has Hamish rolled over yet??? He must be very close!!

    Hi to everyone else!!!

It is very quiet in here!

Mia, the Rafferty's stuff looks great! We'll be giving that to Harri when he's bigger to as there's no preservatives or anything else added, but I'm also going to get a blender so I can have a cooking day and freeze him meals. There's these awesome trays that look like ice cube trays but they have little pop out bits on the bottom, so when it comes to meal time you just pop out of a couple, heat them up and there's the meal. Hope Fraser likes his cereal

Con, pass the baby is horrible

Teresa, sorry to hear about your DH's grandfather

Meercat, hope Tiah is sleeping better

    Beata, hope you're well

B, hope you're ok, haven't seen you around for a while

    Hi to everyone else

AFM Harri is doing well. Had him weighed and measured on Thursday he's now 61cms and about 6kg. The nurse kinda guessed his measurements and didn't do them properly which was annoying so I've re-weighed him and he's 6kg rather than the 6.8kg she told me. He's been off his food a little bit lately, only wanting 4 bottles during the day rather than the 5 he usually takes and is a bit spewy in the morning which is apparently a sign of teething?

Change times have become a bit of a nightmare sometimes, soon as he goes onto his change table he's rolling over ahhhh makes things so difficult. Today he's been pulling his little legs up like a frog and kinda leaping forward lol it's very cute.

    Evening ladies,

Gosh, sorry I have not come back to update you on Cam's paed app. on Tuesday, it seems that I don't get to sit down until late at night when I put my feet up and then it's bed time! The visit went well, he said I shouldn't worry about Cam's neck, just change his cot position so he is looking the other way. I have re positioned it so it's not alongside the wall (lenght wise) now the head of the cot is agains the wall so I can talk to him on either side. I'm still not happy with his neck 100% so will book in to see the physio through my maternal health nurse on Tuesday.
Poos were a different matter. Paed was not happy about Cam having poo up to 5 days apart. He said to give him prune juice (30 ml prune juice to 30 ml of water) every day, and if he doesn't have a poo by day 3 to give him 5 ml of this laxative. He said that by having the poo 5 days apart it sits in his intestine and stretches the intestine which is not good.

Con, I hear you on the passing the bub around too much! Every time we go to mums, everyone is in his face, mum, dad, SIL my brother and he gets aggitated. Sometimes I wish they would cuddle him one at a time with time in between!

Miamunchkin, wow, 210 ml per feed!! That's great. Cam is fusing with his bottles most of the time, he takes at the most around 150 ml, the average is 120 ml. I suppose he only takes what he needs.

Teresa, I'm sorry to hear of your DH's Grangad passing away

I've got the maternal health nurse app. on Tuesday, I'll ask about the formula and if I should be trying something else. I'm thinking about introducing solids soon, maybe he is ready for them?????

Hi to everyone else, hope you're all doing well

Tiah is sleeping a little better - we are going a little like this - bed at 6pm, wake to feed at 10, 2, 5, 8. She wakes in between these times and I just rub her little forhead and put her dummy back in and she goes straight back to sleep. I am convinced now it is the cold... I am nagging DP for a proper heater in our room as we only have a little electric one that we only dare leave on for 30 minutes or so.

Pass the baby is the most annoying thing. My friend tells people "Tiah doesnt like being held like a baby, let her check you out instead"

I am holding off on the solids as long as possible, after talking to our nurse. Tiah isnt really showing any interest in anything but her booby so I am going to leave it untill that changes. Plus, I am so unorganised and I know once solids are introduced I am going to have to lift my game! It is so easy at the moment just giving her the boob! She is 5.8kgs now... my lean little munchkin

We went to the pub on the weekend and after a few of the boys (My borther in law and my own little brother) made it clear they were appalled I might feed Tiah in the pub... I ended up feeding her in the disabled toilets I was so angry at myself for doing it, but I knew they would make a fuss and annoy me... and that would make Tiah fussy and make the entire situation worse. DP has toldme he doesnt care what I do as long as I am comfortable.... but the feeding in public thing is so hard tbh. I know I am not doing anything wrong, but knowing other people are so affected by it makes me nervous now and it is a snowball affect because then Tiah gets extra fussy and I get more stressed ahhhhh

meercat - u should feed her where u feel comfortable. who r they to tell u any different! i went out on friday with four other mums and 3 of them are bf. we went to a play cafe and they just flopped them out and fed them there. i admire them for that. i couldnt do it!!! so if u want to feed her in a pub with others around then good on u! do what feels right to u.

missawah - yay for rolling over! Hamish is so close but still not there. tho he can almost sit by himself without me propping him up much anymore!!

con - i hate that people think they can pass the baby around. i am so p---d off about tuesday still. plus we are going to a wedding on saturday and they dont want us to bring Hamish so my mum and DH's mum and going to look after him. my mum is looking after him until mil gets here. so probably until 3-4pm. i asked mum if she could hang around for a couple of hours after she gets here coz i just dont trust her to leave him alone! she was the worst one on tuesday! i have a feeling i am going to have one very unsettled litttle boy saturday night.

afm, Hamish is going great guns with his solids! he has mashed up banana (about 1/3 of one) with some formula mixed in with it to make it a bit more mushy for breakfast. has 1/3 of a jar of heinz veggies for lunch (did try my own but he didnt like it so will try again later on plus the jar lasts for 3 meals), and for tea has a milk arrowroot biscuit mushed up with formula too. if the consistecy is too runny i add some rice cereal to thicken it up. he loves it! just need to get a highchair now. have him sitting on my lap at the moment lol.

Hamish has started babbling too! its so cute. he also has this squeel going. lol its pretty funny. he loves talking to his elmo too. his eyes light up when he sees him

mia - good luck with the rice cereal. maybe try some fruit puree or banana instead. we tried both farex and raffertys with Hamish and he hates both!

    hi to everyone else xx

Meercat, I can't believe people can be so horrible about b/f in public. It really makes me mad!!!!! I would just bite the bullet and do it somewhere not too big/busy (ie a coffee shop) and then when you get your confidence up you can do it in a pub etc. I have seen plenty of women do it in shopping centres, restaurants, even McDonalds, they just have a blanket covering the bub and boobie. I think it's the most natural thing in the world, can't believe how women are made to feel so bad about it. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the heating, just be careful Tiah doesn't get a cold. It is advised to keep a certain temp. where the bub sleeps. Before we converted the spare bedroom into the nursery, it used to be freezing in there as it's at the back of the unit, and the heating from the front room (we have a big wall heater) takes aaaaaaaaaages to reach it, and when it does it's still cold!! So we have bought an oil heater from Kmart for $50 and it's the best thing. I leave it on pretty much 24/7, on low/medium heat which makes the room the right temp all the time. I don't really switch it off as I change Cam's nappy there at 4 am in the morning and the room is nice and cosy. The only drawback????? $$$$$$$$$$$$. Our electricity bill has alomost doubled. My DF said he doesn't care as it's better than Cam having a cold.

Teresa, hope Hamish is good on Saturday night
