Oh good CK, I wondered cos I tried violet in the sling and felt so clumsy! I'll wear it around the house for practice before taking her out in it! I'll use a combo of tummy and kangaroo too- cos violet loves looking around also!
Poor bub hated her injections- she had such a sad cry, like it really hurt her.. Poor thing. I cried too! Have given her baby panadol cos she's been very unsettled- and now just got her to sleep... Phew!
I have a sling, just generic brand one. I don't like it, I have a second hand (box is 80s style) baby bjorn. I've used it twice, love it.
Levi's been a bit hit and miss today. Happy one minute, then something upsets him for a while. I did have lots of dairy yesterday so I'm guessing that's what it is.

Abby has been sleeping all night for 5 consecutive nights now to at least 7:30am. She seems to only want/need 5 feeds a day now as well but I'm trying to feed three hourly during the day cos she's going around 10hrs overnight.
I had both Abby and DS2's needles friday and DS2 just sat there watching each needle (3 on total)go in and never pulled a sad face or cried, we had the bubbles out and everything and I got DH to hold him just in case but he just sat there wondering what all the fuss was about. Abby wasn't too happy though and had a good scream.
AM I hate the slings, being over one arm shoulder they make me sore. Loovvve the Ergo though and we use it heaps.

Lolpigs you'll be proud of me- I just got violet to sleep in HER OWN BED!!!! Woo!! I did feed, play, then she started yawning and I put her in a wrap, then in her bed, then kept going back when she spat out her dummy and started getting upset, and eventually she fell asleep! I've never been that disciplined before to leave her in there when she gets fussy- I usually just picked her up! Wooooooooooo!!!

Alex is certainly precious about the condition of his nappy before bed - last night he'd had his shower, fed, a bit of a play and I was cuddling him, he was yawning but just not settling, grizzling and wriggling around. Checked his nappy and he'd done a teeny bit of poo, as though he'd done a big fart with a bit of follow-through. Changed him and he was asleep within 5 minutes, slept till after 4am :)
At the moment he is on his mat on the floor trying to nom on his cube toy. He hooks his arm around it or grabs it by the rings on the side and drags it close to his face so he can try to get it into his mouth...
Thats like DD CK, She is totally like that except the falling asleep straight away part heh ;)
So cute hes nomming his toys. DD is a real talker now, and will sit and babble to me for at least 10mins at a time. She prefers that to her toys at the moment. Even does it in her cot. Ooh Ahh is her favorite and Arh (like a priate LOL)
Can I ask a question of the more experienced mums? When you were a first time mum, how long did it take for you to be confident about your abilities? I'm finding that now everything is calming down I'm more nervous about caring for bubs on my own? Even though I know I can do it if you know what I mean? The repsonsibliity feels overwhelming?
Thoughts would be appreciated, hope everyones days are better today :)

Lolpigs funnily enough DS1 was a breeze as a baby, DH had 1 week off work only and I never had any hiccups with except the fact he was a lazy feeder but a great sleeper. DS2 was a ragbag pretty much straight away - he was/is a non sleeping, had to hold every second of the day type kid and that drove me completely bonkers!! Plus DH had to take an extra week off work to just help me adapt. Well Abby is even easier than DS1 so no dramas. Sleep or lack of it plays a huge part in how you cope as a parent I think personally, i've found it quite easy going from 0-1 and also 2-3 by really struggled going from 1-2. Try to just go with the flow and it'll all come together for you but if you feel really anxious still might be worth a chat to your CHN or GP to get check out.

Yeah I think DD day sleep issues are causing some of the stress. I really dont know how to help her. I've got a friend coming on sunday who is going to help with settling on Sunday and I have a class next week hopefully that will help.
Most of the day she just has short sleeps and sometimes its a battle to get her to sleep at all.
I think it was a gradual progression for me. Started off second guessing practically everything, then as more things worked than didn't work I might only second guess every 2-3 decisions, then every 4-5, then only the big ones. I still second guess those - like DD's schooling etc.
I did have a very good support network as well - my Aunty had raised 5 kids of her own, my cousin that I was closest to had 5 at the time (6 now) and the social group I was in (mostly XP's friends) all had preschool aged children. So if I did have questions, there were plenty of people I could turn to for advice.
But a large part of it also was learning to relinquish the need to control everything, to realise that having a loose plan and being flexible with it was far more beneficial than carefully planning every last detail. It meant being able to adapt and cope when DD kept moving the goalposts and changing the rules. I do still have plenty of moments where I feel less than confident, where I question what I'm doing with DS and DD - but I keep telling myself I'm doing the best I can out of love for them. And that there's nothing to say I can't change my mind about the way I do things and try something else if what I'm doing isn't working.
Thanks for the thoughts guys appreciate it. I'm hoping it gets easier as I get more confident with her. I just feel like I'm doing the wrong thing most of the time as not much seems to work with her often.
She has been really unsettled today and had a mild fever earlier so gave her some panadol. Not sure what is up but something is bothering her, she hasnt fed well today either. Popped her in the swing now to try and get her some sleep, she just hasnt slept much all day and not sure what is causing it :(
aw lolpigs, hope lilly is feeling better soon!! did the panadol bring her fever down?
Yep it did but she was still unsettled. Got her to bed at 8pm and she slept till 2:30am so that was good. It must be all this changable weather it is awful!
Lolpigs we had a day like that yesterday too. Probably didn't help with the boys being so noisy either.

Z wasn't cranky just awake for most of the day! think she had about 2 hrs sleep from 1pm to 10pm! but she was a happy sleep deprived bub!

Alex's portacot arrived today, so we're going to set that up and make sure it's all good. Thinking I might leave it set up in the lounge while it's so hot so he can have day sleeps in it as I worry about him sleeping in his rocker for long periods - usually ends up with his neck at an angle that really does not look comfortable.
Busy day tomorrow, off to mothers group then lunch with a friend and her 9 month old DD, most likely lunch with Mum on Friday...then only 4 more days till my brother and niece get here :)
We just got Lilly's portacot, shes in it now as its too hot upstairs to put her down for her sleep. Its taken awhile to get her to sleep though she dosent like the feel of the mattress I dont think! I dont really have a sheet to fit it however :S
I'm off walking tomorrow, and lunch on friday with some friends. I'm going to take the travel cot with us so she can sleep in that.
My mothers group dosent start till 7th Feb. Going to one that was organised locally on Meetup.com all the locally run ones have a limit of 12 weeks old on the babies for some reason? and don't start till mid feb, lilly will be too old by then.
I got a padded sheet specifically for the portacot mattress - makes it a lot softer.
Mmmm, I've missed the first two weeks as apparently it's mainly directed at first time mums so it wasn't offered, I had to actually ask about it. But will get the last 2 weeks in. I guess a lot of things got disrupted having our babies so close to Christmas as normally MG would start at 6 weeks or so...
hmm where did you get the padded sheet? I'll have to get one Lilly isn't happy in there. Shes also drooling HEAPS and being really unsettled and has been noming on me.. no teeth please not yet..
Yeah the MG here was a bit weird, run at the community centre it was only 1-12 weeks. I thought that was odd. I've been looking around for something since Lilly will be too old to go by the time it starts again.

Got both the cot and sheet from babyzone direct online - sheet was about $30
thanks CK ordered it, the sales person we got wasnt very good at the store.. told us to put a normal mattress in even though it is a hazard! hopefully it will arrive soon. do you just take bubs in the ergo when you go out to lunch? I am going to a friends place for lunch on friday and thats why I got the cot becuase I thought we might need it.

eek Amanda! not here...lil miss Z's poops have been a generous green, yellow, darker green, yellower yellow..well, you get the picture!
Mmmmm, sitting down with the ergo is a bit of an artform - can be done but you will probably be more comfortable with her in the pram or cot to be honest.
Toothypegs already? Yikes! Though she may not actually be cutting them yet, sometimes just teeth moving in the jaw produces similar drooling/irritability. Hope it settles soon.
And Amanda, Alex's poo went a bit greenish but noy really blue...

If its still like that tomorrow I'll call the dr.. She seems fine otherwise- do you think it's anything to worry about?!

Oh good, thanks Nikky :) umm no... I ate cereal and yoghurt thismorning, pasta for lunch, and two lentil patties for dinner with some cooked tomatoes?! Nothing unusual at all... How totally weird.. I'm assuming it was the rotavirus oral vaccine that did it - it's just a really weird unnatural colour!!!!! Her nappies are normally anywhere from yellow to green- just never blue green before!
Seriously, eat blueberries one day and check out the colour of her poop!
If its still blue tmoro maybe give the Dr a call? No harm in makin sure bubs poop is fine!!

Not quite black, but a very interesting shade of very dark green.
Rotavirus vaccine can give them a slight case of gastro type symptoms for up to two weeks post. That's why they say to wash your hands really thoroughly, I've been washing with soap then a bit of aquium as well. With three kids I can't afford to get sick, but I have noticed Abby has been pretty cranky the last few days could be she's just not feeling right from that vaccine.
DS2 had his vax done on Friday too, more of a catch up cos he has been struggling with boils for so long which is an indication of a low immune system because most people can fight the bacteria off that causes them. Anyway poor bugger has three at the moment when he hasn't had any for about 4-5 months, guess these vax's have knocked him around a bit!!
Argh I'm really struggling to get to bed before midnight ATM... Driving me nuts cos I know I should be sleeping but I'm just not tired.

Levi is growing like a weed, almost in his 0. Starting to cut back the 00 in his wardrobe :(
I'm picking up more and more signs from him, what cry means what, what upsets him etc. Poor baby is such a hot baby, doesn't like being held on warm days, so he lives in his rocker.
Target babython starts today, going shopping big time for his size 1 clothing :D
I find Abby likes to be with me but not smothered and cuddled into me especially when really tired so I tend to pop her on the boomerang pillow on my lap turning her towards the side so she can see the TV, this will generally make her fall asleep each night after 10 or so minutes.. weird child!!
Wow AM thats some serious growth happening :). Abby is still in 000 and will be for a while I'm guessing, was looking at DH holding her last night and her legs looked short cos there getting so chubby hehehe... Loove baby fat LOL!

Any ideas with bubs sleeping atm? She is doing when she isnt unsettled 6pm - 1am feeding, then waking at 4:30- 5:30am feeding then waking at 6:30am unsettled, resettle her till 8:30am then she wakes unsettled and resettled till 9:30am when I get her up
Not sure what we can do about the unsettled part? I tried the dream feed but the CHN told me to go back to demand feeding and go wtih the flow. Any ideas?
Wow AM, Levi's getting so big! Alex is into his 00 stuff now but still fits most of his 000 as well.

Lolpigs when you say she's waking up unsettled, is she grizzly/crying or does she settle reasonably well if you get her up? Could be that she's just grouching because she's ready to get up earlier and doesn't want to go back to bed? Though I get that you really wouldn't want to encourage her to get up *too* early (like Alex wanted to yesterday - 5am and he was bright eyed, bushy tailed and ready to play) but it does sound like she's not too keen on going back to sleep after about 6.30am.
If the dream feed was working for you, poo what the CHN says do it anyway. It works for some babies, doesn't work for others. I don't bother with one because Alex cluster feeds in the evening and seldom is in bed much before 9pm. He usually sleeps till 4-5am now, then goes back down till 6-7am when he normally wakes for the day. Admittedly he's then usually heading for naptime by about 10am unless we're out doing things and even then he's out by 11 :)
Ugh, just my luck - just got drenched in a river of chuck. And Little Mister is now happily sitting in his rocker playing with his hands, but I stink like milky spew. Oh well, time for a shower.
Thanks Ck :) I think you might be right. No not crying, just fussing and complaining, like when she wakes during her naps and needs to be put back to bed. I haven't tried getting her up yet, I might do that tomorrow and see how she goes. Looks like I'll have to start getting up at 6:30 it seems as it has happened every day this week ugh! No thank you earlier than that please haha yeah she isnt hungry till about 9 or so seems she has decided that is play time. Lucky mummy!

Lil Miss Z is into 00's now as well :) and screw the rompers that have feet in them! Her legs are too long and her feet are too big :( so poor lil things get squashed! So footless rompers needed, and do you think I can find cute ones of those??? gah (any of you other ladies finding this?)
LOL have you t hought of just bringing Lilly into bed with you when she wakes up early morning? She could just be craving mummy contact, and might even snuggle into you and go to sleep for another couple of hours :) Just a thought. Specially if you like to sleep in!
Zoe has been awesome really, soooo different from her sister! She has a feed around 8.30pm - 9pm, a burp and she passes out until 6.30 - 7am. Been doing this for weeks now! Sooooo completely dif from her sister! who seriously, would wake every hour and half for a feed and a whinge!
Makes me want another one........
I would love to bring her to bed, but DH isn't keen on it so that's a no go for now. Her cot is right next to my bed however. I'll see how she goes tonight, she might just want to be up and about. She does loves being glued to me so that could be a reason too.
