Jan I might be inclined to stop too mainly because if she's only have a small amount of formula that could be detrimental to her health. Remember breast milk or formula is there main source of nutrients for there first year if life.

Yep the ped said to stop solids and he will check her out on Monday. It's a worry for me as she's 6 months in 6 weeks time and I'll prob run into the same issues then when she needs to start foods. I think she needs higher meds but will see what the doc says.

I have an appt in may with a gastro ped that someone at ds' preschool wrangled for us as he only takes family of current patients. Never thought I'd need that appt but now we do.

Had a breakdown of sorts this morning. Too exhausted beyond repair. The dizzy spells are putting me at risk of falling or fainting. My body is starting to crack. My family have intervened and are practically forcing us to move in with my mum and dad until things are better. I too am worried about having a car crash or something like that as 2-3 hours a night broken is getting to be too much. Not excited at going to my mums. It's hard to accept how bad things are. But at least I have family that cares. DH can't sleep there as there isn't enough room for a double bed and port a cot. So he will stay until 12pm then go home. Then I'm alone with Jess until morning and my mum can watch her so I can sleep for a few hours.

Thanks for reading, just feeling so sad. I just want my girl to not be in pain xox

Oh sweet... Hopefully the gastro guy can figure out a way of helping her in the long term - you've had such a tough run. Accepting help from your mum may just give you that little bit of respite to keep going.

I think Monkey Boy has teeth on the move which may have been causing all the recent irritability. He's dribbling a lot, chewing everything in sight and seems to not want to feed properly unless really hungry - he pulls off and gets aggro. Can't see anything in his mouth though. He's also discovered his feet, he can grab them reliably but can't chew on them yet.

Oh Jan it's such a tough situation for you guys, all I can offer is a big hug!!
Just wondering though if her flap at the top if the osophagus (sp?) isn't working properly!? I know my SIL had huge problems with her son for ages similar to what your having. Either way just do as you need to get through every day.

super Jan I totally know how that feels. Reflux is just the worst. Lilly's if flaring all the time now becuase shes wanting to spend lots of time on her tummy crawling. I really hope he can help you. A friend of mine who had a severe reflux baby like yourself, her son had to have an operation to correct his flap in his Ospephegus, perhaps something to consider? Although I think they only do it if they are failing to thrive, but still something to keep in mind.

So glad you have family who can help you I was about to ask if you did. You will feel much better with more sleep. Let us know how you go.

Ck, Yeah Lilly is like that too, they haven't come down but they are on the move often and she is pretty much the same. Lilly learnt yesturday why we dont bite our feet HAHA

Oh Jan - that sounds like it has been so so tough and incredible that you've got yourself, your gorgeous little girl, boy and even DH through to this point. I think that has probably taken every single ounce of you and def shows what a brilliant mother you are. It sounds like it's def time to accept some help now - otherwise you're going to burn yourself out! Noone can keep that up. I was talking to MCHN and she was starting conversation re sleep schools as hopefully, the Losec has his reflux more under control and now we just need to help him break habits he's formed with his sleep bc of this..
Re solids- the reflux is meant to get better as they get older right? So who knows - in 6wks time her little tummy may be that much better at keeping things down and be able to deal with the solids better. Think how much they develop in 6 weeks and remember that is happening to them physiologically too.. fingers crossed. I really hope the specialist paed provides some support for you as it is that absolute worst watching your bub in pain. Interestingly a friends mum told me the other day that my friend had really bad reflux when she was a bub and screamed and cried heaps and as a child/adult she doesn't remember a thing and is a psychologically well adjusted woman!

What are people's opinions of controlled comforting? Eg diff to controlled crying as you don't leave bub for longer than 1 minute (just long enough to register you've left if they;re not responding to your attempts to comfort them). Its what the sleep schools suggest to help Gus sleep past the 45min mark. So the idea is at 45mins he wakes crying, needs more sleep but he FIGHTS it (ie screams!). I go in, 'shhh' him, turn him on his side and rock/pat him, replace dummy if needed. If no response after a few mins or so then I can either pick him up until he calms down, then put him back in cot (he'd start screaming again) and repeat steps 1, then leave room for a minute if no response and then repeat process. When rocking/aptting him in cot thye say to lean right around bub and cuddle/touch them anything that soothes them...
It sounds so hard but I so want him to be able to have longer day sleeps... otherwise he's a bit of a mess/tired/cranky/feeds poorly etc.
    Advice?

Jan - How'd you appt go? I hope you can get some answers soon!

I hope all you ladies had lovely weekends...

Mine... Not so much.. Aubree had her immunisations on Friday, and she seemed alright just not really sleeping at all during the day, even though I gave her panadol.. Then Saturday she was back to her happy self, sleeping, and feeding great.. The yesterday OMG! I felt like the worst mother in the world! Aubree fed at 8am and then it was a struggle to get her to feed again throughout the day. I ended up in tears on the phone to one of the ABA counsellors, it was horrible.. Anyway she seems fine this morning, every feed she has had this morning has been great... Hmmm I have no idea what was up with her yesterday, but maybe it was her immunisations or something....

Most likely it was just the immunisations knocking her around a bit - I try to book mine in for early in the week so any cranky days are done and dusted by the weekend. Alex had a bit of a rough run with his this time too, off colour and grizzly for a couple of days with a mild temp as well.

Aw Jan, so sorry to hear how hard things are for you at the moment.. as hard as it wuld be to have to go stay with your mum, your own health sounds like its suffering without enough sleep, with the dizzy spells... so if your mum is able to help you get a bit of extra sleep then it sunds like it might be a good thing to do, even if just for a little while. No human can properly function on such little sleep, you poor thing, you must be so many levels of exhausted at the moment! Huge hugs, i hope they appointment went well and that you get some good answers that can help..

Aww mollie, what a yucky day ith Aubree not feeding!? How strange? Yeah my guess would be the vaccinations caused her to lose her appetite, or feel a bit sick, so she didnt want to feed.. awwwwwwwww you shouldnt feel bad though, you cant help her appetite.. but it wouldve been stressful thats for sure'!!

CK LOL Violet's chub stops her even trying to grab her feet!!!!! hahaha. too much leg and tummy podge in the way! hehe.

Well my little 4 month old is not so little... 8.8kilos! hehehe! big girl!!! we had the vaccinations yesterday, she slept well last night which was good and only had to give her panadol once!

So the fact she is now 8.8kilos means she has outgrown her love to swrap sleeping bag things cos they go up to 8.5 kilos.. im now not sure if i should be buying more in a larger size or trying to get her into a sleeping bag instead?!

I guess it would depend on how she sleeps with her arms free? If she still depends on the wrap for sleep, I'd get the next size up but maybe start transitioning her as well (it can take time for them to get used to). I've had to buy a few new gro-bags because Alex has grown out of the 0-6 month size - he's too long and his feet are right at the bottom! Makes me rather glad we got the car seat we did though, a friend of mine had to buy a new seat because her DD cracked 9kg but was nowhere near ready to be forward faced

K&G - I had similar issues with Lilly due to reflux and bad habits formed with sleep. I never pick Lilly up to comfort and put her back down she gets the poos majorly becuase she thinks I'm getting her up, better to comfort in the cot imo. I've done a little of that, but never timed it. Just left when she was calmer and went back to her if she got upset again. I just listened to Lilly rather than watch the clock iykwim? I don't think leaving them for certain periods of time mean anything to the baby nor teach them anything. I just went by Lilly and her cries. I never left her to cry only becuase I dont believe sleep should be traumatic. Is he waking looking for the dummy do you think? I know Lilly used to so we worked on weaning it the last week or so and now she dosent need it. My advice is dont make lots of changes all at once, just work on one thing at a time.

All I did to break Lilly's bad habits was, have a routine before naps and bedtime that was similar and stick to it. For naps its, check nappy, into sleeping bag, cuddles in cot tell her its time for nap, and if shes calm I just leave.
For bed time, its bath, pjs, feed, book, wrap, cuddles in cot telling her its bedtime and if she is calm i turn off the night light and leave. We used to use the dummy to settle, now we dont. To wean that we started at night time becuase she is sleepy anyway and her body is telling her to sleep and day times just happened.

If she dosent put herself to sleep or starts to get upset, I will turn her on her tummy (her favorite position) and pat her back and shush her until she is calm and leave again. I do this until she is asleep on her own. If she dosent sleep on her own (with me in and out to calm her) after about 15mins I stay and pat her off to sleep.
I found it was about doing what worked for Lilly, and not listening to recommendations from sleep schools mostly because their recommendations are alot harsher, and while they work faster I didnt want to be harsh with her. this whole process took Lilly about 9 weeks. So it's no quick fix, but you will make tiny gains every day. Let me know if I can help you with anything
    HTH

Jan hope you are doing ok

Mollie I wouldn't worry, unless she dosent eat for more than 1 day, she will be fine. One day is just the needles. Lilly does that too, or goes through periods where she has little appetite. So long as it comes back again its fine. If she continued not to eat then you would take her straight to the doctor/hospital.

Yeah what Ck said LOL, if she is dependant on a wrap I would buy the next one, but get the love to dream wrap with the zip off arms if you can so you can start to transition her Lilly climbs all over her cot now in her sleep its hilarious.

I am going to have to buy new gro bags soon, Lilly's legs are so long!

Lilly seems to have settled herself into a routine, I've been staying at home alot recently to try and help her because I could see her trying to sort it out. What she still dosetn have sorted is her 6am wake up when she is still tired and wants to stay asleep till 7am or so (becuase if I get her up she is tired within 30mins or so) so she shouldnt be up. And her evening nap before bed, she tends to go down around 5-5;30 but seems to only sleep for 45mins which woudl be ok if she wasnt tired afterwads but she is. her other 2 sleeps are for around 2+ hours so its only these too niggly now.

Perhaps she needs to drop the 3rd sleep in the next few months and it will sort itself out. Hope you are all doing well

Lilly had pumpkin for the first time today, she loved it and tried to feed herself with her spoon. She now makes mouthing faces all the time when we eat and gets upset if she cant have what we are having lol.

The Avent Steamer/Blender is brilliant! <3 it

Edit: Just to prove me wrong she has started waking at 45mins, but I hear lots of coughing so I think her reflux is trying to make a comeback. Getting Dr to up her dosage.

    Hope everyone is going well

Wow Amanda little Violet is getting huge.
I got no idea what Abby weighs but I'll get her checked the Friday when I get her needles done. I still have Abby sleeping of a night in her bassinet but she has her day sleeps in her cot in her room. We go away in a week so I didn't want to change a whole heap of sleep arrangements just before we go.

Abby is in a great routine, she sleeps all night then has a few day time sleeps and a larger afternoon one. We aren't onto solids yet either she's still happy with just the 5 feeds a day of around 150mls.

Hi everyone. Finally have 5 mins to myself loo. Levi is having a hard time with teeth, I think I'll try leaving this logged in.

Hugs to everyone having a tough time

Other than a short temper and being over emotional Levi's doing well with his teeth. He was meant to have his needles yesterday but they put it off until tomorrow hoping his sinus would clear (seems the top teen are pushing on them).

Edit: Levi is doing really well with his eating and has now had sweet potato, apple (which he still doesn't like), Carrot and pear. I have made pumpkin which he will try next week. He also has farex for dinner every night (made with 40mls EBM).

AM poor Levi.. Some bubs really struggle with teeth. DS1 was a breeze then I didn't know what had hit us with DS2, plus the lil terror wouldn't take panadol - took me ages to figure it was the taste not that he was allergic to it.
Also you could try and mix the apple with some sweet potato or similar if he isn't too keen on apple by itself.

Poor poppet, and poor mum! Hope it settles back down a bit soon.

I think it's getting to the point where I have to move Alex out of my room. He's nearly too big for his cradle and keeps waking himself up getting stuck sideways, plus I think we're waking each other up in the early hours of the morning when otherwise he'd just go back to sleep. So I went out today and bought a video monitor, and now that it's cooler I'm going to start him having all his day sleeps in his cot in his own room. After a week or two of that, I might shift him into his own room at night...not sure I'm happy about it or ready for it, but it had to happen eventually I guess....

    thanks CK, yesturday was rough.

The pead didnt return my call so I've upped her meds to 2ml twice a day and she is now having 4 scoops of thickener in her feeds. Fingers crossed this fixes it. I wondered why all of a sudden she was draining her bottles every feed and then bringing up heaps. Then the coughing started, and then the waking every 45mins and then the constant milk smell and it went downhill from there.. argh. I hate this its awful for her.
