MD, life is mostly back to normal now that DH is back but sleep has fallen apart.
It is 12.30pm and we have resorted to controlled crying for A for the last nearly hour. She was screaming hysterically even with DH in the bed with her and he was having to hold her down so she didn't get out of bed so I have cracked it and this is how it is. Not very nice but if she won't settle with someone in the bed then she can learn to do it on her own.
We had massive flash backs when we took the dummy away, if it wasn't so stressful I would be seriously impressed by E's capacity to keep shouting/crying/yelling for hours (!) Man if i only had that kind of stamina...
It went quite well in the end. We were leaving her for 2-3 minutes screaming at the door and then walking her back to bed and telling her it was bedtime, time for bed etc. Took just over an hour and she finally went back to sleep, then when she woke a couple of hours later it only took about 15 minutes of the same to get her back to sleep. I don't like doing it this way but I think I have tried everything else! She can wake up 3-4 times and won't resettle even with a full dose of Phenergan before bed. She just wants me in the bed with her and won't accept anything else, even if DH is in there. Will keep going for a few more nights and hopefully make some progress.
MD, the lastability of W's tantrums has always impressed me lol His record was nearly 3 hours without a break when he was really in the swing of it - he is nothing if not stubborn! (surely he didn't get that from me!). Thankfully A usually doesn't have the stamina for long wobblies and tends to only last a few minutes during the day.
Is E over the dummy yet?
Keeping myself entertained planning W's party. He wants a Toy Story theme so I will have a look around for some branded party stuff when I go to the city to pick up MIL next weekend.
Trill: CONGRATULATIONS MATE!! that is awesome! ahhhh gotta love a distinction!!!!!!!!
MD: i was a hoarder too. i just had such an emotional attachment to all my things, it was as though I was throwing a bit of me away with it ITMS. trust me, they grow out of it (but that said, it did take me ages hahaha).
thanks for the name. sounds like my mate might know of her....up her alley etc etc.
G: i would love for him to get a greyhound, but mum recently had a rather traumatic experience where the dog she adopted was taken from his foster home where he had been for over a year and he was only 18 months old. he was completely beside himself and had become so depressed as the weeks went on that after 6 weeks he refused to get out from under mum's bed she was devastated and so called the rescue place and they organised for him to be sent back. he was such a lovely dog, but yeah we are all feeling a little sad about it all...that said, I am a BIG fan of greyhounds, and would love love love to adopt one, but i think Opa would prefer a smaller dog in the end because he would love to have it sit on his lap: and even though a greyound would love that i dont think it would fit
Arte: oh dude. we had to that with Leila a few times. when it got to the point where if i am in the bed with her and she is still screaming etc etc i do just walk out and go in intermittently. sorry that you have to do it, but hopefully its the last battle
MD, I am a hoarder. In fact, I am planning to pick up the last of my childhood hoard from mum's house next weekend. Then I can hoard it here for the next 20 years before I decide that it is actually useless lmao!
Touch wood, but the CIO thing seems to have worked for A! Last night she woke three times and I was able just to plonk her back in bed, quick kiss and leave again. No having to sit there and then have her spring awake when I try to leave etc. Early days, but hopefully this works!!
Wow, the frost is so hard this morning I have just noticed the condensation on the windows has frozen!
Sounds like Melbourne has been pretty cold this year? Our weather has just turned in the last couple of weeks, and even still it isn't that cold unless the ice wind is blowing.
I have friends!! I was planning a bushwalk this afternoon with the kids when I got a call from my returned friend inviting us to the playground, so I invited her on the bushwalk, then invited my new friend and it was fun! The kids get along really well and it is soooo nice to be in a little group of friends!
Hi Arte, I'm here! On my phone mist of the time though which is why I keep it short and sweet. Lots of reading not much replying.
Bushwalk sounds like great fun. Yah to having friends! It is absolutely freezing here. No joke. We don't quite know what to do with ourselves. Dh has got winter depression again. What's the clinical name for that again?
I think the best cure for that is a holiday up north somewhere! (and that doesn't mean north to the snow either)
Arte, so pleased you're getting your own little gang. It makes such a difference. I have the opposite problem, I get a bit grumpy if i dont' get enough alone time LOL. But we can all do with more friends.
Missy E is definitely improving on the going to bed with no dummy front. There's still a bit of shouting though , and there seems to be a very long and convoluted book-choosing routine developing instead, which we will have to nip in the bud. But no more scary monsters and the bed seems to have stopped "moving" which is a relief.
oooohhh DH gets that too. it is so frustrating as he doesnt even realise that his sir grumpy pants and believes that it is all my fault that i *think* he is a sad (Get it lol?!) sack.
G: for our winter blues today i went with the girls to the movies and saw "cars". was boring as batpoo (actually the toystory clip at the beginning was the best bit lol); but i had a fab time with my popcorn and latte lol.
A: ahhh seems like you are finally settling into the place you're at. it does take ages but once you have that network it is all rainbows (well, for the most part ). you are so fit to be bushwalking at 30 something weeks pg lol! you go girl!
See I just wish DH had the SADs - he has that other one when he's a grumpy-bum all year round
Speaking of which it's my turn to wear the grumpy pants as it was our nineteenth anniversary yesterday and (I'm such a biatch for saying it) I got an after-thought bunch of supermarket flowers. I'm particularly snirty because with my sis here it would've been the perfect opportunity to whisk me away for dinner or even an overnighter!
Well I'm having a school hol movie-disconnect because DD saw one movie with the grandies and neice saw the other movie with her dad, so there's no other movies I can take them both to . Missy E isn't well socialised to the movies yet so I'd rather spend $2 at the dvd store for her LOL. Popcorn and latte though, hmmm I could go a round of that!
Congrats on 19 years MD!!! I'd be pretty peeved at supermarket flowers too! LOL at Miss E developing another habit at bedtime. It can take some time to get them fully weaned from it can't it?
Arte that sounds lovely! I'm glad you're making some friends. It might help to get you through those rough times with the kids. I know we're always here for you, but it can make so much difference to have real people to help you.
G and Cass, DH doesn't get winter SADS but the wind makes him so cranky! If we have a long stretch of really windy weather it makes him unbearable to live with. But spring is just around the corner so I hope they both get over it soon.
I had a nice weekend. DH and I were in separate cars on Saturday at the football as he'd been away overnight to pick up E, so after footy I sent the kids home with him and I went to the club on my own. The football social club had organised a punters night and there were 30 of us that all chipped in and we had a ball picking races to bet on all night. I didn't get home till 11 and I was there since 4 in the afternoon LOL. It was so much fun!
