MD - The first criteria on any public school position is 'a commitment to public education'. It's pretty hard for a teacher to demonstrate that commitment if they're sending their own kids to a private school (and certainly if you're a deputy or Principal). At least, that is the case in NSW and because this is a small community, you can't keep it a secret! And if you're sending your kids to the 'opposition' (when local), that means it is one less enrolment contributing to the staffing, funding etc at the public school. Mum was a public teacher, she just never indicated where her kids went (much easier in a big city!) If she got a scholarship to my old school in Canberra where she could board, then I think that would be considered differently and I would be encouraging that!
