    Evening Mummies and Bubbies.

Bella- Glad to hear ur home. Make sure u do rest.

Naomi- Sorry to hear Bailey has had pains. I got some Infacol drops for Logan, and they seem to really make a difference. Have u also tried sleeping him on his side? Yep Jake and Zac are twins. I checked out ur pic of Bailey, and he is absolutely beautiful!

BG- I hear u on the feeding a snuggling.

Snacks- Glad to hear that DD's eye is alot better.

AFM, Not much has been happening here. Logan had an unsettled night. I finally got to bed at 3.30am and that was after I put him on his side, and wrapped him from his underarms down. He went 4 hrs today between feeds, and also did a 3 hr gap. The Infacol drops are really helping him bring his wind up, so hopefully tonight he sleeps alot better. He is drinking 80mls of formula per feed. He's in size 000 already!

well, the feeding kept up until almost 11 last night - feed, sleep for a teeny bit, wake, scream, cuddle and keep crying til she got boob. ended up having to sms a couple of friends who have bf their bubbas just to get confirmation that it was 'normal' - she's never been like that before. thank god i have no formula in the house or i might have caved and then beaten myself up for messing with something that is - mostly - working! anyhoot - got her into bed for the night around 11, woke up for nappy change and feed sometime around 4 - fed, burped - went to feed her the rest and she was out cold so back into bed expecting another wake up withing the hour - nothing til around half 8 when she started talking to herself. didn't end up waking up properly til almost 9! yay for sleep - and for cute bubba sounds while she was waking up!

we're awake now and she is hiccuping to her hearts content in the bouncer - just about to finish brekki, bath her, then shower myself and head off to the fertility specialist to show off our girl - and maybe to work, depending on how she is travelling...

Sorry - again I don't have much time because we're heading out and might also be going away for the weekend. But I just wanted to quickly read what everyone was up to.

BG - Have you looked at your diet? What you eat can play a big role in babies being unsettled. Seriously! If you have too much sugar in your diet (natural or processed - I find Brooklyn is quite sensitive to sugar/same with Ro until she was a bit older, so I have just about all but cut it out and theres been no worries - I sneak in choccy every now and then but brace myself. lol) lentils, cabbage, broccolli, citrus, sultanas etc. can all be culprits aswell. There is probably a list somewhere. That sort of stuff can give them a tummy ache, make them unsettled and in return from the pain they want to keep stuffing themselves with boob to make them feel better. Just a suggestion mate.

Naomi - sounds like it was a milestone he went though!

Not sure if you guys know about it or not, but if you go to raisingkids (not sure if I'm allowed to post website details?) you can actually subscribe for a monthly email which they will send you information corresponding with your baby's age. I found it really helpful with Rochelle because it gave me some sort of indication of what she might be capable of and things I could teach her etc. plus it has articles on sleeping, feeding, development etc. I just signed up for a month email for Brooklyn after getting Rochelle's monthly one this morning.

Ok, I'm sorry i haven't done more personals. But I hope everyone is doing well otherwise. Have a great day. X

    Hey!

I've finally found this thread lol. Well I just made the may babies list after all..May 31 hehe

Congrats Bella! Welcome home! Hang in there! C-section recovery gets better every week. I've had 2...I overdid things last time - so get all the help you can.

Cara is doing well. She's such a cute little peanut! She seems so small compared to Laura, who was 4kg baby and looked a month old when she came out hehe.

She loves the teddy bear mobile above her change table!! She started looking at it days after I brought her home. She is so good when I change her nappy 90% of the time, but she HATES baths! I only bath her about 2/3 a week at the moment. This house is so damn COLD! I wipe her face etc every day with cotton wool. She's getting yucky around the neck though. I hate how the milk gets trapped in the folds.

Cara is a total boobie addict. She wants to suck a LOT. I have dummies for her also, but she tires of them pretty easily. It's handy if I'm out though.

She's starting to lose a bit of her dark hair. I wonder if she's stay dark or go blonde like the other bubbies (all blonde and baldish!)

I hope you're all doing well!! Sorry for no persies. Little Cara is stirring....gtg.

Ok, I'm going to be ambitious and try to get a few persies done. I'm going to work backwards, so if I miss anyone I promise it's not personal, it just means that Master Kyson has realised it's almost feeding time, hehe.

Cathy - Kyson has been losing some of his hair too. I don't think he'll get any lighter (I have dark brown hair and DH has black hair), but I hope it doesn't take too long to grow back. He mainly got a little sparse in the front (like a receding hairline) but its still long at the very back near his neck. I say it's like a baby mullet

Catherine - Oooh, thanks for the info on the website. I'm going to go check it out!

BG - I hope your little feeding frenzy princess has slowed down. It's crazy when they do that isn't it?! Kyson did it again recently which I think might have been his 6-week growth spurt. That's when they apparently have a growth spurt yeah? Lol, I'm not even 100% sure. He definitely seemed to put on weight though because at the GP the other day she said he was 5.7kg! She weighed him in a very non-technical way though, by getting me on the scales first, and then me holding him, and worked out the difference.
I hope you had fun showing off Emerald! When we go places to show off Kyson I tend to put him in the hug-a-bub because then people don't ask to hold him
Oh, also, I've only recently moved to the area I'm now living in, and Kyson and I went for a walk to discover some more of the area the other day. Guess what we discovered? There is a street just behind ours named Emerald! Made me think of your little gem of course.

Bridg - I hope you had a more settled night last night. We've been trying a few different things for wind with Kyson because he doesn't seem to be a good burper and he gets really bad tummy pains. We started with the (NON-alcoholic) gripe water, then moved on to the Infant's Friend (which we think was helping a bit), and now I'm using the infacol, which seems to be giving us the best result. I still wish that one of the more natural products had worked for him, but at the end of the day I just want him to feel better
I've put you and Logan on the baby's list on the first page, but let me know what Logan's birth weight was if you'd like me to add it

Amy - I've never fallen asleep burping Kyson, but I have fallen asleep feeding him in bed. When he's having a good feed (a non wind-affected feed) sometimes I can scoot further and further down in the bed until I can rest my head and doze. The funniest thing was that one night I woke up with Kyson laying across me asleep with his head on my boob and I couldn't for the life of me remember if I'd actually fed him yet or not! I think I must have or surely he would have let me know in a very loud way
Oh, and I never even thought about pointing Kyson's little peepee down to stop leakage out the top and side of the nappy! Since I've started doing that I haven't had any leaks. I might just manage to get through the last of the newborn sized nappies. We are still putting him in th enext size up for night time though because I don't like to get out of bed for a change of clothes if he wets through

Raindrops - I had a squiz at the photos of your family on your facebook. You have some very gorgeous children there! I love Q's hair. So adorable! Hmmm, I wonder how dark little Ralie will go. I'm really interested in how dark Kyson will end up. He's already got more of a tan than me and I'm jealous!

JwithJ - Don't worry, I'm sure that Jamie is not the only fatty! Kyson is growing sooooo fast! In fact, I met up with a fellow BBer yesterday and her 5 month old weighs about the same as Kyson!!! Absolute craziness!!!

Naomi - Oh I'm so jealous you managed to get a photo of Bailey smiling! Kyson is only occasionally smiling and I can never catch it on camera. The best I got was the tail end of a smile one day, but it's not really recognisable as a smile on the camera, lol.
Has Bailey's toileting habits changed a lot recently? I found that Kyson started to do a couple of wet nappies, then a poopy one, rather than all nappies having poo in them. But the last few days he's been going long stretches without pooing at all (around 24 hours!) and then letting it all out at once. I've been worried that it's making him uncomfortable. Hopefully it's just normal as his digestive system matures...
How did the vaccinations go? I'm still debating whether to have Kyson vaccinated. My gut is saying 'no' and DH will support whatever I decide, although I really wish he would read the literature I gave him so that he would be more informed on the decision we make. There are some vaccines I know that I won't give (like Polio and Chickenpox), and if I give him the others I think I might delay them for a while. It's such a hard decision though. A part of me wishes I had never started researching it and just gone with the flow because then I wouldn't be stressed! Did you end up getting the Emla cream to numb Bailey? If so, did it work well?

Bella - Good to hear you and Jemima are home from the hospital! What a super woman you are leaving the hospital after 36 hours, especially after having a c-section! I understand wanting to be at home though. The earliest they would let me leave was 48 hours post-birth because apparently they couldn't do the heel-***** test until 48 hours had passed. Kyson was born at 9.40am on the sat, so we organised the test for 9.40am on the Monday so we could leave asap. Hope you are healing well and having lots of snuggles with your precious little one!!

Donna - Hi, welcome and congratulations! Hayley looks gorgeous in her little ticker photo! You've added another little girl into our female-heavy baby group. All the little boys are going to be in high demand I'll update the baby list with yours and Hayley's name and the birth details.

Jess - How are you and little Andy going? And Ashley too of course! I hope you are all well and haven't caught what your DH was catching!

Niadla - It's good that Allira enjoys beign wrapped still. Kyson started fighting being swaddled when he turned 2 weeks old and we haven't managed to swaddle him since. The midwife and MCH nurse told us to persist, but he would just scream and struggle until we unwrapped him and it was just too upsetting for all involved. He now sleeps in a jimjams and sleeping bag and is much much happier. Luckily he doesn't wake himself up by waving his arms.

Ok, I think I got most of the persies done, and Kyson is only just starting to grumble for dinner. He's been sleeping this whole time on my chest in the hug-a-bub. It was soooo worth the investment because I can get heaps more done with him in it.

We had a great night last night. Kyson actually went 5 1/2 hours between the first feeds of the night, and then nearly 4 between the next two! It was fantastic! I wonder if we can replicate it again tonight. Fingers crossed.

We have a paediatricians appointment tomorrow. He got referred there mainly to have his mild tongue-tie checked.

Oh, and I had my 6-week post-birth check up with my Obstetrician yesterday. He's so lovely. We forgot to take a photo of him with Kyson after the birth, so we took one yesterday. He checked me over and I'm in perfect health. He said that I was "made to make babies". Lol. Now I just have to convince DH to make it "babies" and not just "baby"

    Evening Mummies and Bubbies.

We had a great day today. Logan fed really well last night and burped really well. We dropped the boys at kinder, so when we got home, Logan and I had a nice 1.5hr sleep. This afternoon, he went 4 hrs between two feeds. When DH got home he fed him his bottle, and let me have a sleep.

Krystie- At the chemist the other day, I saw a Brauers brand of stomach calm, and it said it was homeopathic, so Im guessing its like a natural one. Logans birth weight was 3660 grams or 8lb 1oz.

Cathy- Lucky for u having a happy baby at nappy change. Logan hates nappy change, and bath time.

    Hi Girls,

Just a quickie as am off to my IVF Mums Morning tea - yaaaaah!!

Bridg - I agree re the infacol, I have been using it for Bailey for about 2 weeks now and it is definately the best wind product I have found and gives almost instant relief to my boy. My brother told me that it disperses all the bubbles of wind in their belly - and showed me how. Fill up a sink with some dishwashing liquid so there are bubbles, put some drops of infacol in - you will see it basically clear the bubbles around where you drop it in - freaky! This concerned me at first as I am putting in Baileys belly and thought it might be too strong, but my Bro and SIL used it on both their girls in their first years and they are two of the healthiest kids I know, and the dosage is only 0.2ml. The Braurs is a pain in the bum as you have to give it 4 times every 30 mins, then four hourly - too hard to remember IMO

Krystie - re the vaccinations, I am not sure you can pick and choose which ones to give as I know one of the needles was a 5in1 vac - cant remember which 5 it was though. There was one oral one, which was fine as Bailey liked the taste and just sucked it down with his dummy, then a jab in each leg - he screamed with each one - but only cried for about 15 seconds and after a cuddle and dummy was fine - like a goldfish - instantly forgot! I choked up a bit though - its a bit heartbreaking for Mum and Dad - even Sean was a bit emotional. They nurse was fantastic and gave us a heap of info - and said that if any thing he may be quite sleepy about 3 hours after the vac for 3 hours - or would cry and be unsettled - and this is exactly what happened - the crying - this was the hard part, it took a good hour to sooth him back to sleep after about 4 comfort feeds and I ended up giving him some paracetomel and then he was fine and slept for about 3 hours, and woke up smiley for a feed and had been a very happy little chappy this morning, so it wasn't as bad as I thought. I will be doing all the recommended vac's, but you need to do what you think is right for you and Kyson

Cathy - glad you found us mate!!

Right, must go, just remembered I need to allow time to stop and get a cake - off to Michels Pattiserie for something naughty

Back later to catch up with the rest of you lovely ladies

    Naomi

I am beginning to think that Baileys crazy few days were definately a wonder week - he hasn't had ongoing wind problems and in reflection he was really clingy, wanted to be held and just didn't know what to do with himself - and in the last few days he has just developed in leaps and bounds - constantly gooing, gaahing, giggly, smiling constantly - you can see he has really past a milestone and seems to have moved out of the 'newborn' stage

Krystie - one more thing - yes re the toilet habits, in the last week or so we have gone from pooing at pretty much every feed to maybe 3-4 bigger poo's per day - so maybe break out those infant nappies as they poo's are messy!! LOL

    Back..............

Bridg - Bailey hated nappy change time until about 3-4 weeks, now is not fussed (unless he is really sleepy), now that he is more alert he just copes with it better, when he was first born he would scream the house down LOL

Krystie - to elaborate on the Poo thing - the MW told us that BF babies will get to the point where they dont poo for DAYS - even up to near a week, but when they do - watch out - it will be bath time LOL. Its very normal and just part of their system developing Oh and I didn't end up getting the Elma cream

Cathy - Cara is adorable, I love the photo of Laura with Cara in the dolls pram - too cute

Catherine - that website is great, I have subscribed to the emails too

Hi to the rest of our Mummies!! Hope you are all getting enough rest and your precious ones are feeding/sleeping well!

I was just thinking on my way home from my morning tea that Mums are so supportive of each other (well the ones I know anyway), and I am soooooooooooooo glad I stumbled across BB last year - what would I do without you girls to chat to and compare baby stuff with? (now that we are over the pregnancy stage). Its so nice to log on and read how everyone is going and get some support and reassurance when needed - just needed to share the love!! LOL

Bridg: Sorry about your crappy night! I think I'd be beside myself if I had to wait until 3am for Phoebs to settle. I get pretty crabby if it is after 11 when she settles... Mainly because I know she'll wake around midnight to feed regardless of what time she goes to sleep Glad you got a catch up sleep yesterday, and good that the infacol is working for Logan.
BG: Hope you guys had fun showing Em off at the FS yesterday! Sounds like you guys had a nice sleep-in in the morning which I'm sure was a nice way to start the day.
Catherine: I've had a look at that site before. I participated in the forums a couple of times but no one was as chatty there as they are here Did everyone get a copy of that raising kids DVD? That's part of the same initiative, I believe. I already had a copy.
Cathy: LOL, I wondered if you were lost Almost PMed you but I kept forgetting. I seem to get interrupted whenever I'm typing on here... Glad Cara is doing well! Phoebe likes the bath but hates getting undressed. She really screams when I undress her for the bath, so I only bath her every third night or so. Our place is cold too! I'm scared to think of what our electricity bill is going to be this winter.
Krystie: That's why I'm scared to feed Phoebs in bed - I just fall asleep too easily atm and I'm still pretty unco at feeding her lying down. I'm afraid I'd fall into a deep sleep and smother her. But falling asleep on the lounge was pretty stupid anyway, LOL! Phoebe leaks from the NB nappies too, but only when she has a poo-splosion. I am still working my way up to using the cloth nappies with her. With Natty it took me 3 months to get my act together. I find the cloth is much better at containing everything!
How lovely to have a 5-hour gap for sleeping! Yay Kyson! Hope the paed appt goes well today.
Naomi: Good that infacol is working for Bailey too. I actually bought some Infants friend the other day because I didn't know if Phoebe is getting worked up late in the afternoons because of wind trouble or just because she's overtired. Anyway, we've only used it a couple of times so I don't know if it makes a difference to her or not, but it's good to know for future reference that infacol is effective.
Hope you have a great time at your IVF do today! What goodies did you buy from Micheles?!? I LOVE their stuff.

It's my Grandfather's 90th birthday party tomorrow, so should be a big day for Phoebe. We got some portraits taken of the 4 of us on Tuesday to put in an album that all the family is contributing to for my Pampa. There are a couple of good ones but Natty was being a bit difficult so not many. Still, it's good to have a few shots of all of us together. I'm off to the shops to get a couple printed off and buy myself another BF singlet - I love the bonds ones - I live in them.
    Talk to you all later!

    Hi all,

I feel like I actually have time and energy for persies today but i haven't read back far so there is only a few.

BG- Jemima has been doing the samething with the feeding frenzy stuff and the good thing is that she seems to be doing it at night and mid morning and then sleeping for long stretches at night cos she is so full. Last night she slept from 11.30 till 6am... couldn't believe it! She had a 4.5 hr sleep the night before. Not that i am counting on it to continue but god it was nice to have a long sleep!

Cathy- Jemima hates her baths too. Her dad has been giving them to her and she really hates it. Partly cos she hates being on her back it think. But apparently when they r newborn they don't need terribly freq baths so we r giving her every 2nd/3rd day.

Krystie- I hsve heard the same thing about the hug-a-bubs/slings stopping people from asking for a hug to and think it is a good idea. Leaves it up to mums and dad's to offer rather than people asking.... We haven't taken Jem out in public yet but figure when we do I will be a little possesive and not want a lot of people touching her. On the Vacination front.... it's an issue close to my heart as i have nursed babies who have been sick from deadly preventable diseases so I will try not to lecture. The thing to remember about when you are weighing up the risk vs benifit ratio, is that the risk of immunisations now sometimes outweighs benefit for your specific baby, only because the rest of society has already taken that risk.... by that i mean to refer to herd immunity. if you immunise a herd of cows against a disease then when a new baby is born into that herd the risk that the baby will get sick is very low because all of the other animals took the risk first and got immunised. If lots of people stop doing that then preventable diseases rise and little tiny babies who would otherwise be pretected get exposed to risks even before their parents can choose to vacinate. In the years before polo and whooping cough mumps and measles were protected against they were major threats to babies lives. ok so sorry about that, i hate seeing tiny babies with whooping cough and their have been outbreaks on the east coast lately and it is enough to break your heart. Having said all of that if you research carefully you will make an informed decision for your bubby and should be respected for doing the work to make informed decisions for your baby. That is just my side of the issue and there would have to be alot of sides.

Snacks- I like that you are gonna give some family pics to your pop! We r planing to do a bunch of professional pics for my MIL and frame them to say thankyou for all the help and support she has given us. It's like having a live in maid here at the moment. I have to stop her from fussing over me but she has been invaluble.

Catherine- I was asking my MW about the whole foods thing with BF and we talked about how different cultures around the world have really diff diets. So what upsets one baby may not upset any other. She said to just keep an eye on what you eat and if baby is really unsettled one day remember what you ate the day b4 and then work back. I wonder about the sugar thing tho....... we want our bubs to get used to foods which arn't highly processed or sweet and it makes me wonder if i shouldn't apply that to myself now seeing as what goes in to me goes into her... hmm food for thought

AFM-Well we r starting to get ourselves settled in here now. The pain is really reducing and I am much more mobile. Jemima has been feeding really well and my milk came in yest. She is needing alot less time to feed even now, and as i said earlier she slept thru last night. We have been co-sleeping just cos i can't get in and out of bed easily and her dad is back to work now and needs his sleep. we r getting the hang of feeding laying down. in fact i reckon we rock at this whole BF thing, it is the only thing we have been practicing so it is little wonder. As my MW said, seeing as she stayed in that much longer, she had time to read the book!

Can anyone tell me how to stop my preg counter and start a baby counter? tried looking and can't find it.

    Bella

ps oh my god thats a long post!

Yes Bella, those are just common things that upset many babies and just some suggestions to first time mum's that haven't heard of such things before. Most of my gf's that are Mumma's have had problems with babies being unsettled and they've eliminated certain foods from their diet and miraculously have a new baby. The ones I have discussed this topic with have shared that they have had problems with cabbage and sugar too (I think sugar because sometimes we don't realise how much of it we are eating because it's in so many things). Cabbage, lentils, too much cirtus (I love juice and mandarines) AND sugar were all culprits for Rochelle - soon as I avoided them (until she was a bit older and her digestive system seemed more capable at handling it) I never had a problem and she was an amazingly content baby. I was a little slack on the sugar side of things this time with B and she did have some unsettled times (a few weeks ago when I was whinging about it on here) but since i've eliminated almost all of it from my diet - hey presto - another content baby. It can't be a coincidence between routine and all the other little things I practice that I have two content easy babies. Both self settle without crying, sleep well at night and hardly cry/cried. Meh, maybe I am just lucky... but It makes me feel terribly proud when people who are around my children comment about how content they are and well behaved Rochelle is. My heart flutters. But I have to agree with the MW in regards to dishes like curries etc. All the babies that have been raised with their lactating mother's eat curries. Although one of the indian blokes at school said that his wife had to make sure the curries she ate weren't too hot otherwise their son would get a belly ache. But that was just what he told me. I think with things like cabbage and broccolli etc. it's the enzymes in them that causes belly aches?! I know sultana's are just very high in sugar, so I figure why they are probably a common offender for mothers/babies. But I wouldn't imagine many would eat copious amounts anyway. lol. Oh and you go into the control panel and click on the edit signature link and delete the code to get rid of your ticker.

Amy - Yeah, I'm not really on the forum either - I just get the emails, which I find really helpful. I already had the dvd too - I ordered off that website when I was pg with Ro, but this time I got one in the bounty bag (never got one with Ro).. so if anyone didn't get one of those dvd's, I'm happy to send the second one I got.

Oooh Naomi - we had a marble mudcake from michels passiteries last night too - I of course only had a very small piece... I haven't had much sugar today either, so I may have another little piece tonight when we get home. You are sounding fabulously well and on top of it all - so great to hear!

Bridg - welcome, sorry I haven't had a chance to say Hi before!

KL - Glad to hear you've been given a clear bill of health. Isn't it great to be told that your 'made to have babies'? I puff up and go red! lol

Cathy, glad you found this thread! And loved seeing the piccies of Cara, she is a pretty little mite. That's funny about the baths, Brooklyn loves bath's! She almost falls asleep in there sometimes. But Ro has always been a water baby too. Sometimes I have to fight with her to get her out - she thinks it's a bit of game when it's time to get out. But bath time is a lovely time of the day at our house.

AFU - We didn't end up going away this weekend. We ended up having a BBQ last night and we're heading out for dinner tonight and brekky at the woolshed tomorrow (which is so yummy). Since we had a BBQ last night, Brooky didn't go to bed till 8pm but didn't wake up till 5.50am this morning! I woke up panicking (as you do) thinking I hope she's Ok - but we have a breathing monitor anyway... so I needent have worried myself. I feel like I've achieved alot today - I did all the washing and folding, changed and washed all of our sheets, dishes (of course), vaccummed, mopped, washed & blowdried my hair and refilled my nails! So now I'm kicking back before I have to get everyone ready for dinner.

I hope everyone else is keeping well and I also hope I haven't left anyone else out. But I better scoot and wake Brooklyn for her 4pm feed and then I might take both of the girls for a walk around the farm to look at the animals before I get them in bath ready for dinner tonight. love to all, you all sound like your doing a fabulous job. X

P.S. FYI - 5 weeks is a wonder week for those around that week.

Evening ladies. I have Logan on my lap, so he says hello too.

Naomi- The Brauers sounds like too much hard work to remember. I was reading on the Infacol box that it turns all the little bubbles into a big one so its easier for bubs to bring up the wind.

Snacks- The catchup sleep was awesome. He is generally unsettled when he hasnt had his wind drops.

Bella- Glad to hear the pain is getting better, and that Jemima is sleeping and feeding well.

Catherine- Hi there. Wow! U sound like u got heaps done. My Mount Foldable is still sitting on the chair, and Mount Washable is waiting to be washed and taken to the laundromat.

AFM, I went to bed last night at around 7pm as I only had 1.5hrs sleep the night before, so DH did Logans feeds. I did the 3am one and the 6am one. Logan is starting to now go 3 hrs between feeds, so lets hope it continues. He's drinking 80ml per feed, so Im hoping to get him to every 4 hours. Its been raining here today, so we are all stuck inside.

Bridg - I've updated the baby list with logans birth weight. I've been having some early nights too to try to catch up on sleep. Actually, I can't even remember ever going to bed as early as I have been some nights lol. Last night was an 8.30 bed time night.

Naomi - I'm glad Bailey wasn't too worried about his vaccinations, and you made me laugh when I pictured poor Bailey as a little goldfish!
You really need to have a chat to Bailey and tell him to stop growing up so fast! Each day that they do something new and wonderful is great, but it's also a little sad that our bub's are already moving on from the newborn stage. I can't wait until Kyson is consistently giving us smiles and giggles though. At the moment we are getting some smiles, but not all the time yet. Won't be long though...
Oh, and poor Kyson has still not done a poo! It's been more than 2 full days now! The paediatrician told me the same thing your midwife told you though; that breastfed babies can go days and days without pooing and that she doesn't worry about it. She actually thinks he's having a growth spurt (which I'm telling him to stop! LOL!) and that he's pretty much using up everything he drinks and leaving nothing to poop out.

Amy - I'm totally unco at the side feeding as well! I just can't get into a position laying on my side that allows Kyson to feed easily or for me to relax and get comfortable. I'm thinking that maybe I just have the wrong body type to do it. I wish I could do it because I'm guessing it would make things so easy. Instead I have to sit myself up with pillows propped behind me. Don't worry about smothering Phoebe though, it's pretty unlikely. You'd be amazed how in tune you are to their presence and movements when they are sleeping next to you. I even wake up when Kyson pops the dummy out of his mouth when he falls asleep and I pick it up and move it. Of course then when I want it back I can't remember where I put it in my semi-asleep state, LOL!
    Happy birthday to your Grandfather!

Bella - No need to apologise for voicing your opinion And I totally understand exactly what you mean about herd immunity. While I'm grateful that the majority of the community is vaccinated and keeps the incidence of the disease down (I myself are fully vaccinated), I guess at the end of the day my biggest concern is the health of Kyson, rather than that of the larger community. I know that sounds selfish, but I just want what's best for my little man. I'm actually finding it such a hard decision and a part of me wishes I had never started researching it! Everything I read is eather extrememly FOR vaccinating, or extremely AGAINST vaccinating. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground that weighs up all the risks and benefits fairly. And I hate that the vaccines come combined! It's basically an all or nothing situation. There are some components in the 5in1 vacc that I don't want to give Kyson, but at least one that I would definitely consider giving him if it could be given by itself. The paediatrician told me about the Immunisation Clinic at the Royal Childrens Hospital where you can go in and just discuss vaccinations, so I think I might do that. I know they will be biased toward vaccinating, but at least they might have the most comprehensive imformation as to whether any of the vaccines are available individually...

Catherine - Your BBQ, dinner and breakfast plans sound like a nice alternative to having the weekend away and I hope you enjoy them all. But I have to ask... How on earth did you get so much done today?! You are a super woman!!!
I have a question about the breathing monitor thing you have. If you have one of those does it make tummy sleeping safer for babies? I know you are meant to sleep babies on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS, so I sleep Kyson on his back when he's not on me. But I think he'd possibly sleep better on his belly, but I don't want to increase the risk of SIDS. But if you had a baby on it's tummy on the monitor, would it pick up if they stopped breathing straight away?

Hi to everyone else. I hope you are all enjoying your precious little darlings!

Krystie- I too would like to know that about the breathing monitors. Everyone in our house is a tummy sleeper, and when Jake and Zac were babies, the only position they would settle was on their tummy. Logan seems to fall asleep when he is up on my shoulder, so Im wondering if he will settle better on his tummy too.

Girls - Re the Breathing monitors - we have the Tommee Tippee one - I dont use it when Bailey is sleeping in his craddle in our room as I can hear him and he still sleeps on his back, but its in his cot in his room which he often sleeps in during the day. Its super sensitive - when I have picked him up and forgotten to turn it off it goes off in 20 seconds, so I would recommend that brand, I love it, great peace of mind - it also shows the room temperature, has a night light and works well in our big house with no static - Baby Bunting have them on sale for $159, Target usually have them for $199 but we got it when they had 25% of baby monitors. I have heard that ceiling fans can register as breathing - something about the vibrations being picked up in the sensor pad - dont know how accurate this is, but worth being aware of

Naomi - Thanks for the info about the monitor. I'm going to talk to DH about it and see if he thinks it's a good idea. If he does I think I'll get the same brand as you I guess we wouldn't need it until we start moving Kyson into his cot though.

Oh, and I went to bed after my post last night and got worried that the section in my last post about vaccinating might get taken the wrong way. I just wanted to make sure that no one would think that I thought they were not doing the "right" thing for their baby if they did or did not vaccinate them. I think the reason I am having such a tough time making a decision is because I can truly see the risks and benefits on both sides of the argument. I think it's definitely one of those situations where there is no black or white, right or wrong. We all just need to do what we feel comfortable with

Kyson had a bit of a rough night last night. He was fussy all evening and then when we went to bed he just wasn't able to sleep unless I was patting or rubbing his back. I even had to sit up a few times and bounce him while rubbing his back to get him to settle and drop back off to sleep. At least he was able to rest while I was doing it, but as soon as I would start to fall asleep and stop rubbing or patting, he would stir and start fussing again. It was rather exhausting for me! I'm pretty sure I've been awake since about 3am with only a few naps before that time. He seems a bit better today though. He's watching last nights footy match with DH and his big step-brother.

I think it's all just because he's still going through the growth spurt like the paediatrician said. He still hasn't pooped and it's now been about 87 (over 3 1/2 days!!!) since his last poo! Hopefully he's just using all the milk up rather than storing up the poo inside

Hi girls, we are using the same one which we used with Rochelle - I only stopped using it with Ro (even though I really don't think she needed it at that point) when I changed it over to Brooklyn's cot when we came home from hospital. We have the angelcare breathing and sound monitor and I obviously think it's great. Like Naomi said with hers, mine too tells the room temp, has a night light, sensitivity is adjustable, has the option of using breathing or sound individually aswell as in conjunction with eachother. It also has the option of a 'tic' sound everytime the baby moves or breathes for further reassurance etc. It also has a little light on the unit that flashes everytime motion is detected, aswell as lights that light up if baby is crying or whatever and your in conditions where it isn't as easy to hear, like vacuuming or we used to watch movies in our media room when Rochelle was small and we wouldn't be able to hear the monitor with the surround sound on, but we could see the lights go off if she woke up. It's really handy, I take it with me while I hang the clothes out and at our old house, I'd take it outside while I did gardening etc. best peice of mind!

And I do/have put babies on their tummies to sleep (I find sometimes they prefer that, espeicially when they have a little pain) but more often I put them to sleep on their sides. The maternal nurse asked as a routine question how I put Brooklyn to sleep and I told her most of the time on her side, sometimes on her tummy and sometimes on her back but we had an angelcare breathing monitor and she said 'ah, that's great then'. I'm not too worried about putting Brooklyn to sleep on her tummy with the breathing monitor though, because I think you'll find it won't be too long until you'll find it hard to keep them from rolling over onto their tummy's to sleep. That was the case with Rochelle - but I never swaddled her since she was an October bub, it was a warmer time of the year and I was a bit paranoid with what sleep associations we created. We have had a couple of false alarms, like someone has taken baby out of the cot and not turned the monitor off - this has happened to me a couple of times and I swear my heart felt like it stopped in my chest for a second. And sometimes it will go off randomly but will stop again (if motion is detected again, the alarm will switch off again but a red light on the unit will stay on) - I'm not sure if she stopped breathing and the alarm startled her so she took a breath again or if the monitor was just having itself a little moment. Either way, I was grateful it went off even though she was Ok, because it notified me that she hadn't taken a breath in 20 secs. The room temp on the unit is really handy too! The only thing I can suggest is please do not buy off ebay - a gf told me she bought one off there and got a fake! Not sure if I'd trust a fake one.... But personally I think the breathing monitor is worth it's weight in gold! Oh and mine comes with two breathing mats which is great as many only come with one. X
