Oh the other thing I do is have a selection of white noise tracks playing on the IPOD - not really sure if it helps maybe I should try not putting it on and see what happens - but I can hear it through the monitor and it helps me sleep!

Naomi, we're doing the same as BG. Feeding every 2 - 2.5 hours through the day. Long feed at 10pm (though often I don't have much left by then!) and then there's a little bit of a grizzle...cuddle...pat...grizzle...pat and then she'll pass out and usually sleep 'till about 6am. Will then kind of grunt and stir and suck her fists in her sleep (she sleeps next to me) and I'll give her a quick feed (she'll usually only take one side as she's almost completely asleep still) and then she'll go back down 'till about 9. Every now and then she'll ask for a feed earlier (say, 4:30am) but this is rare.

I know the regular day-feeding doesn't suit everyone but it works for us. I'm not so much demand-feeding as offering regularly when it suits - before a car-trip, when I sit down for a cuppa... so Ivy rarely even grumbles for a feed.

    Hope you find some answers.

Today, she hasn't followed the above pattern at all however. Today she's barely eaten. She was great and relaxed at the movies, but this afternoon has been screaming inconsolably which is so unlike her. Usually when I offer boob this is enough to soothe whatever is bothering her, but this is only making her scream louder. She's now sleeping in the baby-bjorn attached to me out of sheer exhaustion. It's freaking me out. Why won't she eat? She doesn't have a temp or anything...???

SIGH. Being a Mummy is stressful sometimes.

Bridg: WB, mate. Sorry you are doing it tough atm. Hoping your boys settle down for you soon.
BG: Sucks about the nightmares! I hate them. Fortunately I don't experience them often. Do you get them if you're too hot? I've heard that can be a cause - the brain's way of waking you up so you will cool yourself off.
Jess: Keep the 22nd Nov free!!! It'd be awesome to meet you and your boys.
Naomi: Obviously I don't have a long-sleeping baby, LOL! But with Natty it got to the point when she was around 5-6 mo where I'd take notes during the day trying to find a pattern to see why she'd sleep a long time some nights and wake frequently others. When she was really little she'd sleep through, then from around 4 months she started becoming more wakeful. I've got to tell you, it made no difference what I did with her through the day. But that was our experience. I also found that formula made NO difference whatsoever. I tried it when she was 6mo, and it was incredibly frustrating trying to get her to take a bottle for a start, then she didn't even sleep longer for all my trouble.
You might find if you bring in a structured routine through the day and try to drop a night feed by settling without the boob that you have some success. It's not a given by any means, and settling without the boob can take aaaaaaaages, but it can work (and it doesn't mean leaving bubs alone to cry either). I guess it depends how desperate you're feeling. At this stage, I am just going to let Phoebs set the rhythm until she's 6mo (unless I have a breakdown before then, LOL!)... If she's still waking more than twice a night I'll be night-weaning then (ie no boobie between 12 and 5am).
Course the above is certainly not for everyone - please ignore if you wish! You might find Bailey goes longer between feeds over the coming month anyway.

ETA: For the sake of the excersise, Phoebe feeds pretty erratically. If she's unsettled, she'll feed more. She's demand fed. (Max 5 hours between feeds - I get majorly full & uncomfy by then!) Some nights she wakes for 3 hourly feeds. Some nights she does a stretch of 5 hours then 2-3 hourly from then on. The last two nights she's done 4 hours, then 4 hours, then 1-2 hours. On the rare occasions she's gone longer its because she's been exhausted from crying for a long period in the afternoon (when not even the boob would console her).

ooh, the mention of the white noise - i have music playing all night every night (mummy can't sleep without it!) so she has that as well...

Kat - E has had an arvo like that today - i think she's picking up on me not feeling right or something. i locked myself out of the house today (mum checked PO the other day and didn't attach house/PO keys to car keys) so i'm having to wait at mum's til DH gets home. thankfully i had nappy bag packed! add to that the fact i popped my wrist rocking her last night so i'm damn sore... poor poppet

another five minute cat nap down - gotta go pick her up again

    Hi all!!
Been really busy this week... today is no exception. Allira is meeting her Aunty ( one of my sisters) today for the very first time so I better get my bum into gear and finish getting ready, but just thought I'd pop in and say Hi!
Any meets we have I will have both kids and most likely Hubby with me aswell.

We are going to get Allira a bumbo seat next week hopefully as the osteo thinks it's a good idea with her amount of neck, head and back strength. She pulls herself to sit in her bouncer. I don't really want her doing things early... I want her to stay little forever, but even the osteo said she'd like to bet Allira will likely walk early Not what I wanted to hear.
Her flat spot is really improving, now just hoping that her spewing does aswell. I'm so sick of being covered head to toe after feeds.

3 months old today Allira is! That's gone super fast! Helps when I've got another rug rat to run after I spose.
    Anyway, must go
I'll pop back soon and do a decent post... finding it hard with the 2 kids to do much now.

    xxoo

Thanks SO much girls for sharing your sleep routines - you have all given me a few ideas that I might try (not all at once as I will unsettle the little guy and it will backfire completely) but tonight I am going to ditch the gro-bag for the night and go back to wrapping like you do with Emerald BG (thanks ). I wrap Bailey during day sleeps successfully but haven't wrapped him all night since he was about 3 weeks old so might try that, perhaps he is then less likely to smack himself in the head if he awakens and might go back into another sleep cycle. Kat the other idea re the regular feeding throughout the day might be a goer for us also. I rarely let Bailey go over three hours (only if we are out and he is happy so I dont have to flash my boobs), but its not uncommon for us to go 2.5 hours either. I'm happy to feed more frequently throughout the day if it means more sleep at night. Failing that I am gonna get DH to download me a white noise IPOD music list and give that ago and steal your idea Vic

Having said all that last night was a much better night. I fed Bailey at 615pm, he slept till 1015pm, then 230am, then woke about 4 (faffed around a bit but didn't cry, and fell back to sleep) then woke again at 530 and I fed him at 545am - even getting the 4 hours between 10 -2 helped, its longer stretches of sleep I think I need. I dont know why I am not coping with the lack of sleep this week, normally I just accept it and run with it, but it seems to be on my mind constantly and bothering me and I have been a bit testy with DH (perhaps that my issue, I dont want to use lack of sleep as an excuse to be a turd to my hubby LOL)

Oh and Amy, I think like you at the 6 month mark I will be looking for more routine and to be dropping feeds like you suggested if it doesn't happen by then. When they start solids does that normally help with sleep can you recall?

Jacinta - its so cute when they are chatty isn't it. Bailey does this cute little talking, mostly with the dummy in and it sounds sooooooooo gorgeous, it sounds like he is saying 'Gwiggle Gwiggle Gwiggle', it cracks me up every time

Nicky - great to hear from you, I bet you are excited re Allira meeting your sis! Another likely early walker, batton down the hatches although I guess you are already toddler proof with Lachie. I predict Bailey will be the last to walk in our group, LOL (probably a good thing!)

Jess - I think we will definately need to bring a birthday cake if you are able to make it to the November meet up, I hope you can make it, would love to meet you mate

Bridg - I completely sympathise re being tired, I hope you feel a bit better and rested today. Awesome that you are definately coming down and staying for the meet up, I am really pumped for it, our group certainly put a new spin on mothers groups - travelling from far and wide!!

Krystie - you are probably lurking so HI!!

AFU, I'm off to my 'local' mothers group today (they are all lovely, but are no-where near as great as you guys). I also remembered this morning that this time last year we were in the middle of our IVF cycle to conceive Bailey, DH was giving me daily injections and we were very much on tenderhooks and riding that emotional rollercoaster - WOW, how far we have come since then!!

Ooohhh, 'Sir-eats-alot-at-night' is rousing from his morning nap, back later..........LOL

Hi girls, just a quick one from me as DH has man-flu. I am run off my feet.
Sorry about your wrist, BG. Is it any better today?
Happy 3 months to Allira! Glad the flat spot is getting better
Jacinta: Doh! re passing it back to Jamie - conjunctivitis sucks like that.
Naomi: I think it can go either way with the solids? Didn't make a difference to Natty, but then she didn't eat much (still doesn't, LOL!). Maybe if bubs was right into solids then it might keep them full
Ooohhh, 'Sir-eats-alot-at-night' is rousing from his morning nap
PMSL! Ah, gotta go. Cheerio, girls!

Aww BG - that sucks - and having a baby you dont get much time to rest it either!!

I was picking up two pregnant girlfriends this morning to go and meet another friends new baby son - one of them just cancelled as her water broke - she wanted to meet her own son instead, I am so excited for her (just had to tell someone - Bailey laughed at me when I told him LOL)

    Hi All

Well we have had a long week here! Jemima still has a cold and has been unsettled most afternoons and nights. She wakes herself up by coughing and with difficulty breathing thru her nose. So it has been some restless times here with a decrease in sleep but mostly not too bad.

Naomi- Can I say my heart went out to you when I read your post about Bailey not sleeping. The first thoughts that crossed my mind was that I really wanted to tell you reassure you and make sure that you knew that the babies that are sleeping thru arn't really doing so because of something we are doing. By that I mean that I think that some babies do and some don't and it isn't about our abilities as mothers. It also doesn't reflect on you if Bailey isn't sleeping thru. I get really ****ed when people tell me Jemima is a "good baby" cos she is sleeping thru cos I think she wouldn't be a "bad baby" if she wasn't! I tell them she's not good, she's easy. And whilst there maybe something that helps babies sleep thru please please please I hope you hold yourself in esteem as a mother cos as far as I am concerned what makes a good mummy is loving your child with all your heart, and I think you have that down pat!

My routine with Jemima is lots of feeding thru the day. She has a big feed at 6 when she wakes and goes back to sleep till about 9. then perhaps 3hrly till about 4 when she feeds almost non stop till 7ish. we give her a bath and I rub her with that Johnsons sleep formula lotion which is in the bath too. then i feed her again and she ussually falls asleep on the boob. She almost never has a nap longer than 1/2 hr during the day though DH usually takes her in the morning if he is home and she will sometimes come back and nap with me in bed till 11ish is we can/need it. The no nap thing during the day can make it really hard to get things done. Hope that helps? But truly my sister keeps telling me that it really isn't all that normal for babies to sleep thru that way and to be grateful cos not many babies do.

Cos this has taken 3hrs to do I'm not gonna do persies but thinking of u all

Ps i got my professional pics today and i have put them up on fb

Thats the link.... not sure how u do links so i have just cut and paste... anyone else know if there is a different way?

Awwww Bella - you are too sweet, thank you sooooo much for your kind post. It makes me feel heaps better I think I am a good Mum too and my happy and healthy little man is thriving so I feel like I am doing everything to the best of my ability, but yeah I am with you about the whole 'good' baby labels. The last couple of nights have been a bit better - last night Bailey fed at 6pm, 1215am, 330am and 645am - so a 6hr then back to three hours gave me a bit of unbroken sleep with some 2.5 hour chunks by the time he fed and went back to sleep. The good thing is that although he feeds heaps through the night, he usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly. If only I could somehow get Bailey to drop that 330ish feed I'd get two 6 hour blocks - that would be awesome. I think sleep is such a powerful thing - how great do we feel after lots of sleep? Or at the other side of the spectrum it can make you feel like everything is falling apart when you are not getting enough.

BTW - your Photo's are simply beautiful, I love your family shots, they are simply gorgeous!!

BG - I wrapped Bailey all night last night, but his sleeping habits were no different to when he was in his gro-bag so I dont think he has a preference either way. Oh and your post in the "she just wants your attention" thread made me almost pee my pants - LOVE IT!!

Amy - saw your FB status and I have been thinking of you today hoping your day improved. Sometimes I wish I didn't live so far away from you guys, would love to be able to drop around and vice versa to help out on tough days - HUGS buddy :HUGS:

Right, off to watch the Footy, the Crows are currently being hammered by the Hawks - DOH!! (Vic I bet you'll be happy!!)
