Hi Alison Amelia could have put on 1kg in 2 weeks that would be a good gain! Hope you can get a hold of another nipple shield, or your other one could turn up.
I haven't weighed myself yet I should do that.
I missed midnight too but Harry woke at 12.20 so I only just missed it
I just posted this in our old thread but thought I should probably start using this one now. So, here it is again!
Happy New Year girls! What did everyone get up to??
I have to be really quick but wanted to log in and say I'm thinking of you all.
BS and everyone else who is facing the wind dilemma - we were recommended Infant's Friend, a natural liquid formula that you give them before feeds. It's our godsend! Honestly, it has made him sleep better because he was waking at night in pain. BS, I'm not sure if you'll be able to get it over there but it's similar to gripe water, but tastes nice so they love it.
I'll try and get online later to catch up on everyone's news.
So strange moving! When are we all doing it?
ATM - doing really well now. I was in such a fog earlier and felt quite dreadful over Christmas. Now we've used the Infant's Friend he sleeps so much better which really helps DH and I and our energy levels.
OMG, I have to mention this. After BS said she gives Eva tummy time we started doing it. And guess what? Last week, at three weeks, he started to roll from his tummy to his back. I didn't think anyone would believe me so I just had my parents and DH witness it and he did it twice for us. I really have to watch him now because I was cooking the other day with him on the mat on the floor and he started to scream - he had rolled UNDER our coffee table.
Anyway, I hope you're all doing well and can't wait to hear about your news.
willow - Oh I'm definitely going to be careful who I take my baby to if I do decide to try chiro. I think I'll give her and me more time to settle down though. I keep reminding myself that she's only a month old. Thanks for the info. Yay for Harry finally gaining weight
Rose - I'm sorry you've had a hard time , but I'm glad things are improving for you and Liam.
Alison - Happy b'day to DH for yesterday. I hope that nipple shield turns up. If not, most pharmacies sell them.
Carmey - Glad Jack is sleeping better now that he's got some help for the wind. I had to laugh that he managed to roll under the coffee table. Well done Jack!
AFM - Amelia is sleeping better at night now - only waking up for feeds and settling right back down afterwards. But we're still having issues from 7pm onwards. She just won't settle, gets over tired and then justs cries and cries. I don't think anything is wrong but nothing I do helps and I pretty much have to wait it out. She'll have a feed around 11pm and then settles after that. I was on antidepressants throughout pregnancy and wonder if she's going through withdrawal, even though I'm BFing.
Hi Willow - hee hee you just missed midnight that's for sure, you would've still heard the cheers at 12.20 am!
Hi Carmey - lovely to hear from you, just replied in the old thread. LOL Hard getting used to switching huh.
Hi Hannah - I'm glad for you that Amelia is settling better at night, yay! I'm finding our Amelia is more awake during the day and only has little bits of sleeps, anyone else noticing this? Makes it harder to get stuff done during the day I must say but I'm hoping it will eventually lead her to sleeping longer at night........fingers crossed!
Alison - Liam's been the same during the daytime - he's been awake far more (and thankfully awake and not grizzling for a decent portion of that time). The hardest thing is getting him to take naps some days - he just stays awake and gets overtired after a while, which makes it really difficult for him to get to sleep.
Did you manage to find another nipple shield? I know that my local chemist sells them, so hopefully most chemists do.
Hi to everyone else
AFM - Kind of tired today (just for something new). We went to visit friends for a couple of hours last night, and Liam decided that he wanted to be really grizzly and unsettled over at their place. Thankfully he settled down when we got home, but it was still pretty wearying.
And for those who asked - the hospital staff had no real idea why I got the nausea etc after birth - it was either a reaction to the drugs used for the induction and pain relief or a hormonal reaction. I think it's probably more likely to have been the latter - I've also been having hot flashes on and off, especially when I breastfeed. I guess my body is just sensitive to the hormones.
Alison, Brusslsprouts and Hannah - absolutely you have to join the December baby buddies!! We would be bereft without you!! It wouldn't be the same.
RoseRed - sorry to hear you've had such a rough start, but it sounds like things are improving. Its great you were able to get the PND diagnosed sooner rather than later. Having a new baby is overwhelming and if you have some extra difficulties thrown in like severe sleep deprivation, anyone would get depressed. And trying to make social outings is really hard isn't it. We tried to go to a friend's place too. But I think it overstimulated Matilda and we really paid for it with a really unsettled night.
Hannah - I wouldn't stress about the unsettled period from 7pm onwards. According to my bible, Babylove, most babies have one in the evening and can be inconsolable. I really don't think it would be a withdrawal. It would be much more consistent. And my pediatrician said that some antidepressants haven't been shown in studies to cause withdrawal - there have only been anecdotal reports which can't be proven.
Alison - I rolled into bed about 11:30 and woke up around midnight when DH got into bed. There was a quick kiss and I rolled over back to sleep LOL.
Carmey - what a little athlete you have there. Be prepared for an early crawler!!
Willow - what great news that Harry has reached his birthweight! He'll probably start growing faster than you want him to now!
AFM - well DH gave me a very Happy New Year and let me sleep! I'd only got 2 hours sleep when Matilda woke up for her 2am feed and decided it was time to party. By 4:30 I was seriously worried I was going to pass out and injure the little miss so I woke DH up and handed her over. Still she wouldn't be put down and apparently at 6am he tried to wake me to feed her but I wouldn't be woken! So he gave her a bottle of expressed milk that was in the fridge. I regained consciousness about 9:30am with boobs about to explode!!! But wow, it felt good to have so much sleep!!!! I think I might just bring her into bed with us again if it happens tonight. I'm not sure if its just her natural inclination to want to be cuddled constantly or whether we've encouraged it. Between family and a madly doting father she has hardly had to be put down for the first month. But Babylove insists you can't spoil a newborn, so I'm going to assume its just the way she is - otherwise I'll constantly stress I'm doing the wrong thing. Its been really interesting to hear how everyone else has been going settling their bubs. Anyway, I think I'll try and catch a shower before the next feed!! Have a great 2010 everyone!
Hi Tilda - great to hear from you. I think we're all doing great and sounds like we all have the same issues so we're obviously all normal after all LOL! Amelia likes to be cuddled to sleep too and don't you just love that Baby Love book, was just reading it before and read that same bit about it not spoiling them so felt much better. Amelia only went to sleep at 6.00 pm after being awake since lunch time! Not sure what her caper was there but now she's due for a feed but I'm going to let her sleep a bit. Hope she settles for the night that's all I care about right now! I found taking her to peoples places can unsettle them too, mostly I think because they're in and out of the car and everyone wants to hold her....although it is good to get them used to being out and about and having other people handling them. Hmmm.
Oh and Rose, I did find some nipple shields at the chemist, phew what a relief!
Hi all, Im new to Belly Belly and am curious if others out there are experiencing the same as myself. Lily was born on the 2nd December, my due date was the 17th Dec. I had a natural labour - 4 hours and 35minutes and am breastfeeding only. The last 2-3 weeks Lily has been quite unsettled, normally around 7.00 am- 10.00 am and from 6:00 pm -11:00 pm. During the day she's normally okay, as long as we're at home and she's in her cot. To settle her I rock her or dance around the house, which can be quite tiring. Last week my husband suggested we put the hair dryer on and it seemed to settle her, but the last few days it hasn't worked. We thought it might be wind and have tried infacol and gripe water, she doesn't seem to like either and neither work. I am breastfeeding only and dont think my milk is low asI have plenty of it and she has been and she is latching on well. During the night she will sleep approx 2-4 hours. Feeds inbetween take approx 20 minutes, normally during the night its feed and sleep and we have had no issues. Friends have suggested I give her the dummy but she doesn't seem to like it as she spits it out and gets even more frustrated.
Hi Kris - welcome to BB! Lily is such a gorgeous name, was one of my other choices. Sounds like you had a nice quick birth lucky you, I ended up with an emergency c-section which was disappointing! My little girl Amelia was born on the 30th November but I stayed on here as all my BB friends from the pregnancy thread were on here and I love them to bits! Can't believe Amelia is 7 weeks old already, time flies! Lily might be going through a growth spurt perhaps? Amelia was very unsettled last week and had cat naps and bouts of crying etc., she's back to normal this week thank goodness. Amelia isn't a windy baby but some of the other girls have mentioned Infants Friend so maybe you could try that? To settle Amelia at night for bed time I play a baby relaxation CD that I bought from Target, it's really good and works wonders. I probably haven't helped much but I'm sure the other girls will give some good advice too. Stay on here though, it's a great way of talking to other girls and having a good goss and vent! It keeps me sane for sure! I think remember too babies are changing all the time, I'm new at this also so it's hard at times. If only they ame with instructions huh! Hope things settle for you soon.
Sorry I've been off the radar over the past few days, have been flat out.
Jack had his immunisation needles today and the poor little lamb is really unsettled. He cried and I cried when he had them. I hated seeing him in pain.
We also had his 6 week check and he's 6.3kg. I have a chubby bubby!! And he's 60cm so I bet he'll be tall like DH and I.
Oh, and for you guys who have DTD, we did it last night, too. It was a bit scratchy or something down there, so will def get some lubricant happening next time!
Alison and BS, I know what you mean about feeling gross and jiggly etc. I'm the same and it does really get me down. I hate only having a limited wardrobe because I can't fit into any of my old clothes and I really don't want to go and buy bigger sizes. I honestly think I'm a size 14 in the butt at the moment and before I was in size 8-10. And my tummy is literally like a tyre all around my waist. Plus, I have a muffin top. You guys are the only people I can be honest with about it because all my friends and family always say, "Em, you just had a baby". But they don't know how gross it feels. You know?
Anyway, I've started running every second day and will go back to the gym and swimming next week. Hopefully that starts to help things out.
Sorry, whinger alert tonight! I just feel crappy for some reason.
I haven't had time to read through everyone's posts but will hopefully tomorrow.
Oh, hi Lilyzara and welcome. I'm not sure what you can do for your little one, but perhaps it's just a growth spurt?
Alison - I don't blame you for being upset. I would be too! I'm sure DH's intentions are innocent. Men just don't think sometimes. But he should have thought more about you and Amelia, especially given your meltdown the other night. I really love BS's suggestions.
Glad the paed appt went well. You did say that Amelia had a growth spurt last week so 400g probably isn't anything to worry about if that's the case. If the doc wasn't concerned, I wouldn't be either.
Tilda - Amelia hates being wrapped too and can get quite wriggly in the hug-a-bub. She hates having her head covered so I usually wait until she's asleep before covering it. But once she's asleep she sleeps really well and when she gets restless I can just wriggle or walk around a bit and she goes right back to sleep.
BS - I love the way you handle DH. I'm going to have to try that with my DH. I'm struggling to take care of myself properly as well as Amelia and I really need DH to look after me more, but haven't found a way to get the message across yet.
lilyzara - Welcome and congratulations. I also have an Amelia born on Nov 30 (she was due Dec 10). A few weeks ago I was having problems with Amelia not settling - she would be crying from 7/8pm until 12/1am. According to Robin Barker, the author of Babylove, most babies will have unexplained crying episodes at least once every 24 hours. But that doesn't help much when it goes for 5 or 6 hours at a stretch. Google 'dunstan baby language'. It explains the 5 crying sounds babies make and what they mean. I found that really helped me to interpret Amelia's cries. She has had a lot of lower wind issues and when she got hungry as well she would be so hysterical that I didn't get hunger cues and wasn't feeding her. Now that I'm much more confident in knowing what she needs she doesn't have those long unsettled periods anymore. Not sure if this will help you or not, but it can't hurt to try.
Carmey - Wow Jack is getting to be a big boy. Hopefully he'll settle down after his injections soon. Sorry you're feeling crappy - I think we all have days like that. Maybe you'll start feeling better once you get into your new exercise routine.
AFM - Well feeding Amelia from one side for 2 feeds in a row seems to be doing the trick. We had our first normal poo in over a week today and it was huge! Before becoming a mum, I never thought I'd find poo so interesting LOL
Hi lilyzara and My little one Harry is 6weeks old and I'm BF as well, he's never been very settled and has been having 2 1/2 hours between 8pm & 10.30pm of inconsolable screaming. I was assuming it was due to tummy/wind pains, the last 2 nights have been better he's been very unsettled but not screaming for the whole time so now I'm wondering if it was related to something else, maybe a developmental stage? There is a book I have called The Wonder Weeks which explains unsettled behaviour at various times when your baby is making developmental leaps. It is really hard to work out what's going on with your baby hang in there it will get easier.
Have you tried a bath to try and settle her? I know some bubs love that.
Like some of the other girls have said it could also be a growth spurt Harry is very unsettled when he has one.
It's really hard too when something that used to work to settle them doesn't any more, Last week Harry liked you to sit and rock him whereas this week he prefers us to stand /walk with him up on our shoulders...so you're definitely not on your own with an unsettled changeable baby!
Maybe a sling? Have you tried one out?
Good luck keep us posted on how you go, hope to see you posting in here again we're a good group
Hi Tilda Well 3rd time around after a long break has been good, I'm much more educated and seem to have more patience. I don't get as intimidated about advice from older mums/grandmothers and do things my way the way that feel right for me and that works best for me, and I'm not so scared to disagree with advice I don't feel is right for us.
I must say though I've found the lack of sleep harder to cope with this time round!
As for Harry being more settled, well the last 2 nights have been a lot calmer which has been great! But I'm trying not to get too excited about that in case it's temporary and through the day he still only has small naps in between feeds which means I don't get a lot done so the house is pretty horrible But it's not forever they're only this little for a little while.
I'm glad you're loving being a mum it is a great feeling, don't be too hard on DH it's not something you can describe or imagine until it happens...although would have been nice to try it and see a little sooner if that's what you wanted
Hi Hannah Thanks for the info on the Hug a Bub I think I'll look at getting one. Have you tried hands free BF in it? I looked on the website it said you can do it just curious if it's easy or not? If it works it would be great for us Harry eats more than he sleeps so if I could do mobile hands free feeds I'd get some stuff done around the house too.
Glad the poo issues are clearing up ...and yes poo/wee/spew all sorts of gross stuff becomes very interesting
Hi Carmey you can whinge all you want on here that's what we're here for! The wobbly bits and extra bits can get you feeling crap and I know hat you mean about the limited wardrobe not only do most of my pants not fit, then if I can't get my boobs out of the tops I can't wear them either Round the house I don't mind pulling up my shirt but if I'm out I'd rather not have to lift my t-shirt up from the waist to feed so that everyone can see my tummy rolls!
Hi Alison Glad the doc went well...apart from the small chin and nasal passages. I never though having a small chin would require exercises, well you learn something new everyday!
Hi BS Throw a plate at him Love it! Sounds like me try to be nice about it for so long then give in to the frustration!
Some one asked a while back about the cards from Snapfish and I can't remember if I answered. They turned out very nice and I was happy with the service from them too, and the prices were good.
I think someone asked me about something else a while ago too which I didn't answer, I'm not being rude I just still have a crap memory so just ask me again if you get no reply I need reminding!!!!!
Better go hang the washing up before I forget that too!
...Oh I remember someone asked about nappy covers! I've been using Bummis Whisper wraps which are good(and they are one of the cheaper ones) they don't have the gussets, but do still have elastic around the legs, but we haven't had too many leakages, I think it depends on your bub and how often they explode! I have heard the Motherese are great I'm going to try some when I see some on sale (I'm tight) I also have some pocket nappies that a friend gave us the brand is Babyland which I can't find much info on, the nappies themselves weren't that great but I have been taking the absorbent stuffer out and using them as a cover over flats and pre folds and they're pretty good. They're also great when I use a bamboo pre fold as the stuffer instead of the ones they came with.
Alison - just on your frustration with DH, totally understand! I would be the same. Maybe you could drive to the airport, as Willow suggested? Otherwise, I think BS's approach works. Men don't usually respond to emotional threats, if you know what I mean. Us women are fuelled by emotions (and hormones right now!) and men are usually much more 'tell it like it is'. So, if you sit down and speak to him without showing anger etc, and reason with him, you may get a better response?
This is so something you don't need right now!!
Willow - thanks for the info on the nappies. I'm always threatening to try some so may investigate! How is baby Harry today?
Hannah - LOL on the poo talk. Isn't it funny how things change? Glad you've got a solution though, must take a weight off your mind. Or should that be shoulders? Baby brain!
I'm really interested in this Dunstan Baby Language. If I get time today I'll look it up. I remember seeing that woman on Oprah years ago and always thinking I'd use it when I had a baby. Clever stuff.
Lilyzara - how did you go last night with the little one?
Everyone else - hugs to you all!
ATM - Jack is sleeping a lot lately. I even rang mum asking what was wrong with him, but it seems he's very healthy and just wants to sleep. Maybe he's growing or something.
Oh, and I can't remember if I've asked you guys this before, but how long is your average feed? Since birth Jack has been a five-minute feeder. It's a really long feed it it goes for 7 minutes. I must admit thought that he gulps and gulps and gulps, which makes people laugh when they hear it. I used to worry because I thought it was too short but he is certainly putting on weight (6.3kg!!) and has plenty of wet and pooey nappies. Plus he's a happy bubby. But it just seems so quick!
One of the magazine houses just called asking if I'd do a late notice job for them - I love being able to do this stuff from home. Makes it so easy. I'll be on throughout the day. Gotta run!! xx
