Well I've decided - no more nice mummyguy. It's undies all the way here and if it feels yuck to **** in it and it gets on your leg when the undies are coming off then GOOD, that might be an incentive to get the TTing sorted out!
I'll let you know how that strategy goes

Lol I just turned my little snap shot camera on to find L has learnt how to take a self portrait and do it in the NUDE. Will be saving those for his 21st.

oz- yeah L will happily wear undies or go nudie all day but then when he needs to poo he will come and ask for a nappy to do it in.
md- but what do you do when you're going out? maybe i'm just too lazy with the whole thing and that's why it's not working? i just can't deal with him pooing in undies when i'm out and trying to get stuff done iykwim?

MD, that's what I reckon. The few times A has pooed his pants and I've taken them off, he gags like you wouldn't believe
G, you just have to take them to the loo all the time when you're out when you first start doing it. Don't wait till they tell you because by then it will be too late, so just take them whenever you are within coo-ee of a toilet and put them on. We've only had 2 poos in the pants while we've been out and both times were truly accidents, otherwise he's really good with it.

i'm so confused by the whole TT thing, that i think i've just given up on it. i really didn't think it would be this hard.
i read that you weren't supposed to keep asking them if they needed to go or put them on the toilet?
and when he poos in his undies he just gets really upset and sensitive about it, it feels to me like it's damaging him so i just don't let it happen anymore.

Ginger, I think the putting them on the toilet comes down to the fine art of judging frequency. Every half hour, bad idea. Half and hour after a drink and a snack, good idea. Maybe have a few more conversations about poo at a time when it's not happening. My DH cracks it sometimes and I try to tell him the carry-on is what is delaying the whole process here. But as I revealed a couple of days ago we are OLD so it is probably a cranky OLD man thing
Re the what to do when they are out and about - if we're going somewhere where it would be a massive inconvenience, I will still put her in pull ups - but basically I'm just packing multiple sets of clothes and *lots* of wipes. Come what may. I think just resorting to pull ups everytime it's convenient has been holding us back, eg, when she's in pull ups I'm not so focussed on keeping my eye on her and getting her to toilet every time.

:yeahthat: this is where we're at too. Leila is basically fully dry during the day now. we still have some accidents (wee) if she is excited about something and not concentrating and surprisingly this is only when we are home!
in the road to getting there we have put her in undies first thing in the morning and when we get her dressed for the day ask her to go to the toilet (i didnt ask her if she needed to go as she basically had no idea lol). in her bag for when we went out i packed TWO spare changes of clothes (including socks and shoes...eewww) and if she had an accident i would change her. we also packed a couple of nappies for when/if she got really tired or stressed out about the knickers (usually end of day or coming up to nap-time)...oh and a plastic bag for containment.
there are many a times as well when we have had to find a 'pee tree' (not to be confused with a tee pee) and have her wee out in the open alfresco style lol. and we just do it, i figure it's like BF in public, ya just gotta do it lol.

Well, often if you don't ask, they get engaged in whatever it is they are doing and 9 times out of 10 they will wet themselves. Especially in the early days when they are still getting used to learning the signs that they need to go. Even now, there are times when I know A needs to go because he will hold his pecker and do a little dance LOL, so I ask him 'do you need to go to the toilet' he will nearly always reply with 'no', especially if he is playing etc, but I know he really does need to go so I ask him 'are you sure you don't need to go?" and that makes him stop and think about it and he will always end up saying 'yes'. Asking them isn't going to damage them emotionally in any way at all, sometimes you need to ask. and it teaches them to be aware of the signs they need to go quicker than if you didn't ask and just left them to it because asking them makes them stop and really think about what their body is telling them. When we go out, I've always said to them when they were learning 'we will just go to the toilet before we go into the shops' and I go and then put them on the loo too and never had a problem, except with L who for some reason had a total phobia of using toilets anywhere except in our house and at the IL's, so it took a lot of work to get him to use a public loo. Sometimes they can do a wee, other times they can't.
