It's taken about 3 weeks of us getting up, going to her room, opening the door and saying "you can get out of bed and open the door yourself" and then closing the door again LOL. I think she lies in bed a bit before she starts shouting anyway, she likes being in bed. Gotta love that!

DD has already got a cabin-style bed (probably about 5 foot) hence the functional storage space. I would like to use the situation to demonstrate to DD that she can't keep all her "stuff" AND have extra space magically in the room...something's gotta give, she needs to get rid of some of her junk!

Can you impart some of Oprah's decluttering wisdom onto her? LOL. It will get to that point with my girls too that they just can't keep all their stuff as they get older. But I think my girls take after DH's mother and are genetically predisposed to hoarding The boys on the other hand are much easier - despite all that they have - there just never seems to be as much clutter in their room. Once we get the bunks we are getting a cheap desk and hutch for L to have in there as we will still have room for that and their toy box.

Trill, TBH I absolutey *dread* going there with her, I do it a couple of times a year and it's basically a day (and then usually some) of histrionics. Sometimes I just go in there and drag some stuff out myself when she's not here, which isn't ideal because she doesn't learn to do it herself then. I think you might be right - there's an inherent girl-ness to the problem - people tend to give girls things with lots fiddly bits whereas boys tend to get large chunky robust items. Even so, I don't think I will have the same problem with Missy E because she likes tidiness and often puts things away of her own accord. Whereas DD1 will swear that she has cleaned up her room and you go in there and there's still stuff all over the place! LOL

She sounds an awful lot like my girls LOL. When I was a kid, I could get my room into a terrible state, but I would clean it if I was asked, or if it got to the stage where it looked more like the local tip but my sister, she is just gross and just would not clean her room - it was hell when we shared a room! Even now she is still not much of a 'cleaner'. I really hope that my girls aren't like that at all and that somehow between now and when they leave home I will have taught them they need to clean up after themselves. How much is she using any of her things at any one time? Maybe you could set up a 'use all the time' box, 'not used for 6 months' box and a 'not used for 12 months' box and it might be easier for her to see why she doesn't need to keep something that she doesn't use.

We were just today planning a loft bed for W. His bed atm doesn't have anything under it (base very close to the ground) so I think we will make more room.

MD, I am doing a summer school paper. My course isn't a set course, I just need to do 8 papers, 4 at 3rd year level in major topic. So I am just doing a filler pharmacology paper because there wasn't much choice for summer school.

Both of my kids sleep dead still. They are always in the same position when they wake up.

I forgot about that question MD LOL. In 'their' wisdom, it was decided that anyone who started the Bach Ed from 2010 onwards would also have to prove their Band 4 proficiency in English and Maths. If you can't, then you wont be able to teach. So what I'm doing is the Teacher Education Enabling Course which is the two math and english subjects I need to prove my Band 4. The subjects can be done during the regular semester anytime during the next 2 years as a single subject on top of the degree itself, but it was going to be much easier for me to do it over Summer and get it done and out of the way. Plus if I do it now as a course itself it is free, but if I do it as a single subject then I have to pay for each subject. But I don't think I'll do a summer semester again because it is crammed into 8 weeks instead of 13 so it's really full on. There are loads of people doing this degree too that want a trimester system to get it done quicker, but I reckon you'd burn out if you had no decent break in between.

Ok, all makes sense now. I've never had any desire to do a summer semester, but all other things in your life being an even keel, I can imagine the attraction to get it finished sooner. Esp if you're living in next to no income and can't do anything or go anywhere during the breaks cos you're too poor

Another 11pm bedtime for A, but I guess it doesn't matter. I doubt I would have got much sleep anyway - can't stop thinking about Lolli. Her kids are basically the same age as mine and I can't help imagining my family in that situation. I really hope there is some sort of miracle for them.

I know Arte, it's just terrible isn't it. They must be going through hell. I keep thinking about them too.

MD- I was the biggest pig as a child, there was no empty flat surface in my room, including the floor. My mum used to say if I wanted to live in all that junk, it was my choice, and she refused to clean it, just insisted I close the door. I hated throwing things out too, must be a girl hoarding thing. At about 15 I suddenly decided I wanted to live in a little more organised fashion! Must have been the boy influence.
Mum thought it was the biggest joke when I went working on superyachts, cleaning toilets with cottonbuds and ironing undies.

Lori and her family were my first waking thought this morning. Just like that her life has changed to some kind of waking nightmare. But I do believe that prayers and positive energy does help the recipient, and T has a huge community of people praying for him, so I hope that it helps in some way. And now Lulu has had a terrible loss too,

JM, please don't tell me there's another 3 years or so of total mess-making . LOL at your superyacht cleaning days.

Missy E has been a mega cranky pants these last few days. She has taken to shrieking loudly any time any of her (often unreasonable) requests are refused. Doesn't help that DD1 (at home on hols) pays her lots of attention when she does it. ARGH.

DH's homemade pizza tonight...the man is in making-up mode after he failed to listen to my hardware store advice this morning, resulting in the huge spring from our garage door springing off and smashing my car's back window. $500 to repair, fortunately it's mostly covered by our insurance but we may still have to pay for the tinting...grrr...but thanking my lucky stars there wasn't a little person riding her tricycle nearby at the time.

    hi girls!

MD: leila has days where she yells from her bed in the morning, but mostly now gets up herself and grabs her cup of milk from the kitchen that DH prepares the night before lol. on the mornings that she shrieks from the bed it's usually 'cause she hasnt slept enough...and then i know that we are going to have an *interesting* morning lol.

(oh, and we have had mega attitude lately too...something in the air maybe . Leila has been deliberately defying the rules etc and it is starting to drive me bonkers. every little thing now needs to be challenged and laughed at ).

JM: *snap* i was a miss piggy-wig for aaaggesss. it wasnt until i started to notice boys and have girlfriends over that the mess got better...being shamed at school was always the fear lol.

Arte: yeah DH and i had a big convo about what we would do or what would happen if one of us were to go. not a great thing to talk about, but something worth talking about IYKWIM. we havent organised guardians or anything for the girls and we dont have any wills...we are bad. so we have resolved to have it done this year. peace of mind.

Sherie: i'm with you on that one. i like the semester thing, as i too reckon that trimesters are just a recipe for burn-out and a further opportunity to just rush education. some things are worth taking time...

AFM: ssooooo tired today. i think i need to get more iron supps. i ran out and had been travelling ok, but the last few days i realise that i need it. the dizziness is always a good clue.
also, marta has taken to having a chat at 3am in the morning; which is okish, BUT then today refused all talk of sleep. so was awake from 7.30am to 7pm without pause. didnt even look tired . my thinking is the heat TBH. the house got hot and i wouldnt of wanted to sleep either.
leila has been looking a bit flat lately so i got her on some fish oil, but since then has been having the runs...do you think it could be coincidence or related?? i am worried that it might be the fruit flavouring stuff...arghhh!

MD, that is very lucky that E wasn't near the spring! DH was fixing the IL's garage door once and the spring sprung and hit him in the arm just above his elbow - major dead arm! Then his dad walked up and grabbed his arm thinking it wasn't that bad - it is the only time I have ever seen him with tears in his eyes from physical pain.

Clare, bummer about the 3am party. A is quite prone to them. 10.38pm and no-where near needing a sleep. DH has offered to stay up with her tonight. She does this every time she is getting teeth. Drives me mental!

We don't have any guardians or wills either. I have been thinking about life insurance since Michelle71 lost her husband earlier in the year. I just applied and got the papers printed last week. I am sooo faxing them off tomorrow. It is another bill each month, but I am totally willing to pay it just for the piece of mind. Guardian wise there isn't really anyone that I would want to raise my kids. I guess it would be the IL's but they are mid 50's already so three kids would probably be a bit much. Plus they are lovely people but they tend to do everything for their kids/overparent and it creates selfish inconsiderate adults (i.e. BIL!).

I feel so so bad for Lulu. I remember reading Uncle Amy's posts and she was always someone that I would like to know more iykwim. I don't know, but I sometimes wondered how she was getting on. Poor Lulu having to tell her son that his mum is gone - he is only a month younger than our bubs

Ginger, you can get over-the-counter swimmers ear drops at the pharmacy, but if you're desperate you could put a few drops of white vinegar in to tide you over until you can get some drops.

Yes it's a timely reminder to think about wills and insurance and guardianship. Our DD's godparents are named as their legal guardians in the event that anything happens to both of us at the same time, although they know we are happy to trust their judgement when it comes to deciding if our girls are to live with other of our family members. Insurance wise, that's something we should probably investigate too.

Pop some cotton wool in to keep it in there for a few minutes (for that ultra-dorky ear-infection look LOL), then let it drain out completely.

    everyone.
