    scar tissue

I had my 6 week ck up today and was told i would need an operation about 1cm in my vagina due to excessive scarring ralated to child birth. Dr told me it's far too tight and that DTD will be impossible. he told me this is accutally related to when i was a feutus and at around 18 weeks when my vagina was forming scar tissue remained, and delivery exaserbated this. has anyone ever heard of this??? i was in tears in his rooms as the after pain from the epi was awful and not ready to do it again though he reassured me it's wont be bad, i aslo have to have a skintag removed related to episiotomy (not a big concern) but best to have done at the same time
    please help....

Aw you poor thing. Im not too sure about the internal part but i had a rather big skin tag left over from my episiotomy. My Dr referred me to an OB/gyno. The OB first tried putting silver nitrate on it, which makes the skin die and schrivel up, but it didnt work as it was too big, so he had to remove it himself (otherwise he said i may have to go into hospital to have it removed). It hurt like hell at the time, i was in tears also thinking of how long after the birth i was hurting and recovering from the damn episiotomy but the day after he removed it, i was so much better. I had been through constant pain that wasnt getting better due to that skin tag being there, but once it was gone, so was all of my pain. Im talking like in a matter of days. I could now stand up and do the washing or nurse Jesse back to sleep, without aching after 10 minutes!
Was it an OB you saw or just your local GP? Id definately see a gyno or OB if you can.
My OB told me it can grow if you dont have it removed but once its gone its gone. But it is definately something to get rid of.. you will feel so much better afterwards trust me.
Let us know how you go.

Thanks kell,my Dr is referring me to an ob/gyn to have the procedures done, my skin tag is like a speed hump but doesnt give me any pain, things are still alittle sens around that area but it is pain free. i totally freaked out when he said i'd need an op for the two things, i like you had heaps of pain after the episiotomy and i dont think i'm quite ready for more pain just yet, but it needs to be done , so no doubt more tears for me, i cried at the Dr the other day!! poor DH i thought he was going to as well, he hates seeing me in pain. i'm seeing Dr again in two weeks to reassess to i will yudate you soon,
    thanks again kell

My Dr freaked me out too and told me id need more stitches to remove it. IMHO i think youre better off seeing the OB/gyno. It is what they specialise in and will be able to tell you exactly what needs to be done, rather then just an assumption from a GP that may cause you unneeded stress when theres no need. Not that im saying your GP is wrong.. but id just myself rather see a specialist for something like that. My GP hadnt even heard of applying silver nitrate when i suggested it to her after i had been told about it on here... shows what GPs know about that department.. and that was the first thing the OB said he'd do.

My skin tag caused me quite a bit of pain at the beginning but seemed to slightly lessen as time went on. It was about the size of a thumb nail hanging like a shark fin lol. But even that little sensitiveness will go (hopefully) when the skin tag does. Mine did. I feel right as rain now and did within a day or two of it going. Just try not to think about it, thats what i did, and do what you have to do i guess. It may just even need some silver nitrate applied to remove the tag and thats it. Ive heard alot of people on here say their OBs have told them to massage where it seems a bit tight and that can help soften it.. perhaps the OB would be better in recommending something like that will help rather than freaking you out about an operation?

Anyways, let me know how you go. Hope everything works out... youll be right

    Kell,
well i saw a gyno yesterday re my scarring and he told me that it's related to the episiotomy (my Dr told me it wasnt!!, he was the one though who stictched me up as he attened the birth) so i'm a little confused buta was advised to use Ovestin (oestrogen) cream and to try a stretch it myself. fun hey!!! so i will see how things go. still need to have the skin tag removed. a little concerned also that the cream can effect BM production!!

Yep sounds like fun! Gt your DP to help, im sure he'll welcome it lol.. Well i guess it could be worse!
Have you bought the cream yet? You can always ask the chemist if its ok to use while breastfeeding. I did that with some cough lozengers while i was pregnant and he looked it up on his computer for me. But i just did a search on the net for you and they sujest not to use it while pregnant or breastfeeding, so id maybe give your gyno or Dr a call who issued it and ask/tell them if you should use it or not. I wouldnt want to risk it.

When do you get the skin tag removed? is he/she just going to apply the nitrate or do you have to get it physically removed?

Aww poor you.. hope it went well today. If its not too late, make sure you ask if they can give you a local if they have to cut it off! My OB didnt give me anything and it absolutely killed!! Even though he said theres not many nerves there for me to feel it.. it still hurt just as bad as labour if you ask me!

    Best of luck chick!

AJP, I was told at my 6 week check up that it had all healed up a bit too tightly (I tore and had an episiotomy). I was told that DTD was the best thing to help stretch things but it's been impossible. Hurts too much. It's now 6 months later and I'm finally going to go back and see my OB. I think he will have to re-cut and re-stitch me.

I am going to make myself ring and book in to see him this week or next. I've got to do it! I've got to be brave!

So I know how you feel.

FEE have you tried to stretch it yourself? i have to daily (though i do forget) stretch it with my fingers and ky gel, i also have to use oestrogen cream to help soften it, the OB advised me if they cut the scar i will still end up with a scar, does that make sense? so i have to see how this goes if it doenst improve then they will consider an op which i want to avoid!! good luck keep us posted

AJP, I've been lazy. I just can't be bothered to try and stretch thing. I guess I should have. I just can't believe it's now 6 months post-birth.

I've heard people mention the oestrogen cream. My OB never mentioned it at the 6 week check up though.
