    TMI - Hemorrhoid's and Constipation

Way TMI warning...I'm embarassed to even write this but I'm at the end of my rope here.
Since giving birth (almost 4 weeks ago) I have gotten hemorroids and have been constipated. when I do go to the bathroom (every 2-4 days) it is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. I mean, almost as bad as some moments during labor! There is TONS of blood in the toilet, on my stool, and on the toilet paper when I wipe...I have even seen some stringy looking clots when wiping. The problem is that the stool is huge, even with all my attempts at easing things out. I try not to push, but the stool will just come a little ways out, and it is burning (think 'ring of fire' lol) and I have shooting pain in my rectum, and it will just stay there unless I push it, so I can't help but push so it will come out more quickly. Usually after the first stool, the rest are not as large or hard, but I am in so much pain that I can't feel them come out.

When I look in the mirror, I don't see any hemmy's on the outside...so they must all be internal. What can I do to fix this problem? It is so horrible because I try to put it off and feel this sick dread when I need to go, then I'm in awful pain down there when I sit, squat, try to do kegels, pass gas, etc for days afterwards.

I take a laxative and tried to wein off it to no avail, (I also stated ultraproct suppositories and cream today) as soon as I stop taking it, I won't go for days. I drink lots of water but find it hasn't been helping. It's been affecting me so badly, I'm super depressed and anxious and I believe this is why. Please help!!

If you can't see the hemorrhoid, then maybe you have an anal fissure, which can be hideously painful. I would go see a GP and get a diagnosis as they can give you prescription treatments to help.
I was in similar pain following the birth of my DD, and started to incorporate prunes, fresh dates and dried apricots into my diet immediately and also worked on increasing water consumption. These things got me through the worst of it without needing any other laxatives.
I really feel for you- hope things start to improve for you quickly.

    I feel your pain.
I have an anal fissure from birth that I have been dealing with for the past 8 months. Things I have found beneficial are drinking a lot of water, eating prunes, using wipes instead of toilet paper, rectogesic. Are you sure it's not an anal fissure? Have you seen a Dr about it?

Sounds extemely painful. My only advice is to get yourself some psyllium husks, and drink buckets of water, this will soften your stools at least and hopefully make them less traumatic for you. And to get some cream from the chemist (not sure exactly which ones...) things like witch hazel can help. You can put ice down there too. If it is really bad, you should go get checked put by your go or someone, as you may have a little tear or fissure happening (ESP. After giving birth).
Hopefully someone else has some more advice for you.

    Ouch!
It's not the same thing but after I had dd1 I had an extremelyyyyyy bad tear. The ob told me to take this syrup stuff called lactalose every day. I had constipation issues before hand and this helped hugely. It's cheap so no harm trying to help soften things up before you can get into a GP. I used it for quite a few weeks and mostly everything was nice and soft so not so ouchy...

I breast feed as well so find the more water I drink, the more milk I get rather than soft stool. I googled it and thought it was a hemorrhoid however I could be wrong? Just so upsetting, especially when I miss a day of going I start to cry trying to stuff myself with kiwi fruit and prunes to get it soft. Makes life that much more difficult

You can also get suppositories from the chemist (in the fridge section) that I found a godsend. They shrink them really well. The chemist will know - I forget what they are called - procto something I think. If that doesn't work then I would see a GP

My advice is pretty much what the others have said - fruit/veg, fibre supplements like psyllium, and don't be afraid of using stool softeners like lactulose - it can take weeks for things to heal and often people make things worse by trying to stop too early. But if it doesn't start improving then definitely see the GP. You can have both haemorrhoids and fissures at the same time. There are medicated creams you can get to relax the muscle spasm and help the fissure heal. But if you're still getting lots of pain or bleeding even while using all those things ask for a referral to a colorectal surgeon.
