MCN's not look good in clothes?

Hi!
This is a bit silly and probably a little vain. A good friend sent me some spare new mcn's to try out. At first I absolutely loved them and talked my husband into letting me buy another 24 of them. But today I was thinking about how they look really bulky under her clothes and she can hardly fit into any of her clothes (size 00) when wearing them... She can still fit into the 0 stuff with an mcn on, but it still looks bulky.

Do you guys find this or is it just me? I'm now in two minds whether we should convert to cloth or just continue to use huggies?

Yeah it is a downfall to MCN. Some are more bulky than others, but gererally bulkier than sposies. Lu wears bigger sized bottoms than tops. It actually really annoys me that the clothes are designed for disposables and not cloth bums! Ah well, you can't win all the time!

I generally find that Lu is in a cute nappy and top, no pants. or
A dress with cute nappy underneath. I try to avoid pants! Things like bonds all in ones are good b/c they are stretchy. The ones with stripes and no feet.

In the end you need to do what you are most comfortable with. Which i know you will!

Yeh, they definitely are more bulky so if it really bothers you don't go ahead with them because you'll regret paying all that money!

But it's funny how you get used to how they look, now when DD has sposies on both DH and I go errr yuck, those look so cheap and papery!! lol

I guess it's one down side but there is so many other great reasons to use cloth that they out weigh the bad bits!!

I spose it's a bit of a stupid concern... But Ro is a bit of a trendy kid! We do like the nappies and she has been wearing them with just singlets and stuff... I just think about winter and her having to actually wear warmer clothing at home. It know it seems petty and silly... but ah.. I'm just so dam indecisive! gah! And i've also been reading that you wash em with a normal degerent cycle, then a full cycle of just plain water... We're on lvl 5 water restrictions here on the Gold Coast. I mainly want them because I do think they are cute, they feel really soft and it's fun washing them instead of filling the bin up with sposies (which is kind of silly)... Meh! But like you said Lee, we don't mind spending the money on the initial outlay if they are going to be some value to us, but if they end up not being used - I know DH won't be happy! :P

Just upsize when you buy the clothes if they look like they are a trim cut.

There are also plenty of nappies out there that are very trim as well. I have a particular pair of cords that I love on Caleb but only a few nappies fit under them so I have to plan it when he wears them that those nappies are dry.

Last summer when *sniff sniff* Caleb was a little teeny bub it was white tshirts and wacky nappies. It's a gorgeous look

Itti Bittis are just devine to look at and are super trim if you don't mind spending up

I often just dress Claire is a cute top or dress with her MCN and no pants. Pants are optional
I dont find that they are too bulky to fit under claires pants though. We use peapods and haute pockets.

ahh see I reckon pants fit better with MCNs or flannel flats. Flynn has no bum and pants that "fit" everywhere else just fall off without a clothie to hold them up.

I agree with Roryrory. Iz is still so small that she needs the bigger size pants for length but the waists are huge, so the great thing about the MCNs is they hold her dacks up!

I thought that too (that MCNs were too bulky compared to sposies) when I first started using them… but now I wouldn’t have it any other way. Like Rory and Lulu, I prefer them, they help keep his trousers from falling down all the time. It’s amazing what you just get used to in time.

You know, years ago babies clothes, pants in particular were cut for a nappy under them. I remember the sticker being on the clothes saying Nappy Fit, or something to that effect.

DP was laughing just yesterday at Abbey and her MCN under her tights. She had this huge crotch and tiny legs sticking out the bottom. I thought it was cute. Even better when it got hot when we were out so I stripped off her tights and here was this gorgeous nappy.

I love the look of a big cloth bum, but each to their own I'm so used to cloth now, I kinda think sposies look yuck.

I agree with Raven, just upsize if you think it's necessary, otherwise you shouldn't have a problem. And yes, the Itti Bittis are devine!

ETA And OMG at Rochelle fitting into some 0s.....DS has only just gone into 0s, and still fits into some 00s! She must be one healthy bubba

Yeah, we went both ways when we changed to MCN from sposies. Some pants were too tight, but others that used to fall down all the time fit. Now DS1 is in undies and his pants have gone back to falling down LOL!

I too love the look of MCN and all the other benefits so wouldn't ever go back.

I recommend getting a few slim-line pockets (or AI2s like a Berry Plush) for under pants. When Nat wears pants I use BumG pockets or Happy Heinys.
And yes, go for the dresses! That's the beauty of having a girl when you're an MCN user - you get to show them off more easily

Wow - thanks for all your feedback guys! I think I will get a few of those itti bittis' like Sammy suggested and just use the bigger ones when it doesn't really matter... But I suppose I'm also going to stick to sposies for when we're out too.

Now just have to wait for itti bitti site to open back up!

LOL @ Janie... Yes, she is my little porky! But it's the suits that she has to have the 0's in... even without feet!

Catherine - apart from the other benefits of cloth in general, I chose MCN for aesthetics as we have a summer baby (in Nth Qld) and most days he is in a nappy and nothing else - there was no way I wanted him 'dressed' in those horrible looking sposies!!! MCN are just part of his wardrobe.

But I do find that he is a bigger size in pants/shorts - when he does wear them! I had to put a sposie on him today as I stayed longer than expected at a friend's place, and his shorts nearly fell off!

I found the same with the 00 size but it wasn't such a problem with 0 size (she is now in size 1-2) there are def some trimmer styles and some that are more bulky. Dymples brand are made for cloth bottomed babies and you can find some online boutiques that specialise in funky cloth bottom wear.

I love the MCN look! And when you think about it, the $$$ you save on the sposies will buy you HEAPS of new outfits!

With the washing, I just do the rinse/spin part of the cycle and then the normal cycle only - I don't do a whole cycle to rinse them after - just don't use too much detergent!

Yep, my itty bitty's and rumpsters are very trim (although the new rumpsters are a bit pricey!). I use the bulkier types when I am at home and the nice trim flash ones when we go out
