Our first is due Friday and we have not settled on a name yet - we have about 8 names picked and are planning (or hoping!) that when she arrives and have had a look and cuddle with her the right name will come.![]()
DF and I seem to be changing our minds every few weeks about baby names - we settle on a boys and girls and then one of us changes our minds after its settled in our minds and we start again.
With DD we never settled on a name - we were still deciding when she was 2 weeks old![]()
Did you have lots of names you'd settled on before you found the perfect one? I just need to feel like we're not weird I guess lol

Once DP suggested Chevy for DS-2011 that was it!! It felt right in my bones, it was our 'lightbulb' name.
Same thing happened for DD-2010 as well.
You'll know when you hear AND feel it
xx
We are having the same issue Ash,
Every name that we have agreed upon (after much debating in the first place) after a week or so one of us does not like it and we start the whole process again.
We have decided to put our top 10 of both girls and boys name on the fridge and the names we are least sick of at the end of the process will probably be chosen...
I feel for you hun![]()
With our first we had his name picked out before we knew he was a he! So never any debate. But our 2nd little boy we hmmm'ed and haw'ed between two names and only really decided just after he was born.
Lots? Only about 483
At one stage we had a list of about 10... Which we have slowly whittled down to one. We agreed on this name for about 2-3 months. And then I changed my mind
I came up with a great one which we both agreed on... And then DH changed his mind!!
He came home one day and said a name which we both fell in love with. As soon as he said it, I knew it was the right name.
Don't stress hun, it'll happen!!!
I usually have three or four names that I flit between, each one being THE one for that week or day, but then another or my favourites takes over for a while. DH never has any. Both our DDs were going to be Sarah, but when they were born neither "looked" like a Sarah. Not quite sure what Sarahs are supposed to look like, but it wasn't them ;-) I think we've learned our lesson that we just don't make Sarahs, because that's not even on my short list this time.
I hate not being prepared but DH hates being prepared so its a bit hit and miss for us.
It's so hard Ash, and you're definitely not weird! I think giving your child a name is a huge responsibility.
I had loads of girls names and a couple of boys picked out; DH only ever had a couple. He vetoed my favourites and I did the same with all of his.
When we found out we were having a pink one, there were two names we heard that we both fell in love with that were never on the original lists, and that was that. Time for my confession - we have one if she's a brunette, and one if she's a redhead
Good luck, and don't feel pressure to have it planned in advance. I predict we'll change our minds!
I'm like a fish out of water, I flip and flop between names. Aiden was going to be Zekiah, Sienna was going to be Brennan, Bella was going to be Riley, Ruby was going to be Irelynn and Sophie was going to be Juno. I change my mind last minute![]()
None. It was always Isla for a girl, DH and I both decided on it instantly.
With DS1 we named him after he was born, we both liked Joshua. With DS2 we couldn't decide, and so we kept changing our mind, like every couple of days, but I kinda knew DF was dead set on Cameron as it was the only other name he really liked apart from Joshua.
Names are so hard to decide on.
When I was pregnant with DS, we couldn't agree on any name at all for him. He wasn't named for almost 2 days and he got the name he did because I was so desperate to name him and I was over going back and forth with it so we agreed to disagree and ended up choosing a name that hadn't been even mentioned at all until that point! Suits him perfectly now..

We each chose 5 names and those that we both has the same on our list for our DS were put in a hat. We had 3 out of the 5 we both liked - Andrew, Matthew and Lachlan. Lachlan was the name pulled out of the hat, the day before he arrived. We always said we would have the others as 'back-up' in case he didn't look like a Lachlan, but as soon as we saw him, we knew straight away he was a Lachlan. The Midwife asked us when he was born 'so do you have a name for him?' DH and I looked at each other and said 'Lachlan' together. We just knew
We will probably do the same for #2
Good luck finding your perfect name![]()
With my first 2 once we came up with their name they we were set, never thought of any other names. This bub has been difficult with names and we have been 98% sure on a name but something keeps us from saying that's the one, I said to dh maybe we need to have a few names and decide once he is born and in our arms
I loved the time we spent going over all the names that our baby might be called. We found out very early that we were having a boy so that narrowed down the choices to be made.
I told DP that he could pick the baby's name. (from the short-list that I had approved).
In the end we had 3 boys names that we liked. I knew which of the 3 I preferred but I was happy to leave it up to DP. When our DS was born and in my arms DP asked me what I would like to call him (I thought he probably would), so I got to choose the name. DP said that is most likely the name he would have chosen as well. It suits him perfectly too.
With DS1 - we had 2 sets of names and decided on which one after he was born. It's like one name just suited him the instant I saw him. No girls name picked whatsoever so too bad if they'd gotten it wrong. LOL
With DS2 - we had one boy name and one girl name. So that was that.
Thanks for sharing!!
I love the stories when you 'just knew' the name when you heard it. I'm not worried about it too much, just wanted to reassure myself that being scatter-brained about it all was at least a little bit normal
